Huddersfield played reasonably attractive football and were by no means the worst team I've seen in The Premiership. But too many of their personnel are only border-line good enough for the Division.
This is unfortunate, in that it has given people an excuse to downplay the goals scored. The first of these was a very rare thing in the Premier League: A player taking the ball clean through the middle of a packed defence. The commentator, off the cuff, said it reminded him of Ricky Villa's goal for Spurs against Man City. That's going back decades! It was a scintillating goal - Hudders are still a top-division side, even if they are not very good at it. We are being spoilt for brilliant goals at the moment - Pereyra has already scored three contenders for goal of the season. The second goal was also brilliant and the third was very good (it apparently pleased JG most, because it involved coaching and planning.)
But there is, nagging at the back of my mind, the fact that we should have buried the opposition out of sight. We spurn too many good opportunities and nearly-opportunities. This is a trend so far for the season and many of us have commented on it.
Edit: And I don't like to see us wasting time as part of our 'game management' - I don't pay good money to watch that sort of stuff.

Another observation on the match, surely Will Hughes and Alex Pritchard were separated at birth?!

Richard Evans' trilogy on Nazi Germany is first rate.

    I'm History too.

Nazi Germany had recently passed into History from Current Affairs when I did my degree.

    Good plan.

We can save the historical analysis for the week we smashed by City or Liverpool.

And if we go the rest of the season unbeaten, we can save it up for the week they're doing pre season in Austria.

Agree. I went right off him when he did that to us at West Brom. Would be hypocritical to condone it because he's wearing our shirt.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the Cenotaph this year - as a German delegation has been officially invited.

POINTLESS? History teaches you to evaluate evidence, put together a coherent narrative from a number of different strands and improve our understanding of who we are and where we came from.

Pereyra has made Garth Crooks' team of the week and MOTD was complimentary about us.

We're running out of people to hate, except Zaha, the entire Bournemouth squad and manager, and almost all politicians.

By **** are we a civilised and educated football forum, the ability to switch effortlessly between fosters ability to time waste and the machinations of the 1st world war should not be overlooked.

I suggest we go for gold and add a third topic in, anybody else watch ancient aliens on history channel ?

Yes, this is my theory (Kabasele sending off aside) for our miserable result against Bournemouth. In the previous three games we had played very well but struggled to score and put away our chances.

We seemed to to just go completely gung-ho against muff, out of frustration from the previous three games, rather than our previous slow and measured starts and strong second half performances, we were trying to force the ball in the back of the net and got completely cut to ribbons.

Thankfully over the past couple of games we’ve put some decent chances away, but in both games we’ve also spurned some really good chances as well.

It’s a great position to be, winning 2-0 and 3-0 but thinking we should have actually scored more, but the reality is we are still wasting a lot of very good chances.

It is true that Britain wanted to keep the biggest Empire But that was outside of Europe. Indeed although Britain was the most powerful country in the World from 1815 to 1914 the policy was firmly isolationist and to keep out of being embroiled in European conflicts. It was only when Germany became more powerful and aggressive in the late 19th century that we were moved to pitch in with France (our traditional enemy) and later more surprisingly with the Russian Bear (who allegedly threatened India). It should be remembered that the Kaiser Wilhelm II was Queen Victoria's grandson but we still ended up fighting each other.

They really didn't. They huffed and puffed, and caused us a few problems when they went direct but the quality of their football was terrible.

They looked every bit a team that's won three out of their last 33 Premier League games, a bunch of Championship standard players, out of their depth in the Premier League. I saw a stat saying that they had the worst attack in Premier League history, having failed to score in 55% of all their games. They are rubbish and they'll go down.

... as in, from history ...

Wilfred Zaha dives in the box to win a pen if you feign a tackle and touch him.

If you don’t learn from Zaha’s history you are doomed for penalties to be repeated..

Our traditional policy was to stop the most powerful state on the Continent from becoming too dominant. Our upper classes got on well with Germany - they liked their culture -until Germany got too aggressive and we fell in with France and got embroiled in a network of alliances which proved disastrous

It's a case of when it's against us it's a horrible tool that should be stamped out as it goes against the spirit of the game. But when it's going for us it's smart game management and savviness we've previously lacked.

The proliferation of channels baffles me & means I, that is, we, watch only about six.

Mind you, after a gap of many years, I’ve found the new place for the porn channels. You just have to go anti clockwise from BBC1!

Hmm... Not really. I suppose if you're 2-1 up and just been given 5 minutes xtra time against Manure it is understandable and human. But time-wasting against Hudders? We should be at their throats to the end. This term 'game management' is turning into the current curse of football. It is a euphemism for boring. & season tickets are an expensive way to be bored.
