Would prefer to see Rotherham, Bolton and Preston in the prem.

  3. How long does a team have to be outside the top flight before resignation sets in? Forest, Ipswich, Derby, Birmingham, Norwich now have very little delusions of greatness apart from comparing palmares amongst each other. I suppose Wolves will have given them new hope. Waiting for the Leeds wheels to come off.

It took us about a season !

1 season I reckon. Have a proper go at it, then you need to have an eye on the future when parachute money runs out. Players who stay will probably buy into one year at a lower level as well. Year 2 is a harder sell.

Since the Premier League began, the number of seasons after relegation each team has taken is:

    93 Crystal Palace (1), Middlesbrough (2), Notts Forest (1)
94 Sheffield Utd (12), Oldham, Swindon
    95 Crystal Palace (2), Norwich (9), Leicester (1), Ipswich (5)
    96 Man City (4), QPR (15), Bolton (1)
    97 Sunderland (2), Middlesbrough (1), Nottingham Forest (1)
    98 Bolton (3), Barnsley, Crystal Palace (6)
    99 Charlton (1), Blackburn (2), Nottingham Forest
00 Wimbledon, Sheffield Weds, Watford (6)
01 Man City (1), Coventry, Bradford
    02 Ipswich, Derby (5), Leicester (1)
    03 West Ham (2), WBA (1), Sunderland (2)
    04 Leicester (10), Leeds, Wolves (5)
    05 Crystal Palace (8), Norwich (6), Southampton (7)
    06 Birmingham (1), WBA (2), Sunderland (1)
07 Sheffield Utd, Charlton, Watford (8)
    08 Reading (4), Birmingham (1), Derby
    09 Newcastle (1), Middlesbrough (7), WBA (1)
    10 Burnley (4), Hull (3), Portsmouth
11 Birmingham, Blackpool, West Ham (1)
    12 Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves (6)
    13 Wigan, Reading, QPR (1)
    14 Norwich (1), Fulham (4), Cardiff (4)
    15 Hull (1), Burnley (1), QPR
16 Aston Villa, Norwich, Newcastle (1)
    17 Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hull

Not including the 2018 as they haven't had the chance to get back up yet. In 76 relegations (4 in 1995) 21 have bounced back immediately, only 7 times has a team returned after two seasons.

The 6 teams highlighted in red went down to the third tier before getting back to the top.

Teams in italics haven't returned since their last relegation.

Good stats Otter. So it seems like it's either instant rebound or a longer term rebuilding job.

Barnsley were in the PL? I have absolutely no recollection of that.

    Season before us I think.

Suffered a few heavy defeats but won at Anfield as a lot of promoted sides did at the time !

And Deadly Doug is gone as well. A pretty divisive character among Villa fans and someone GT had to deal with everyday. Perhaps if Ellis had been a little more loose with the purse strings GT would have won the league with the Villa.

Speaking of trouble at the Villa, Leeds serene progress under El Loco Bielsa has been somewhat derailed by a series of injuries to the likes of Kemar Roofe for example. Still they are playing the typical Bielsa way and should be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. Bielsa himself has donated his salary to his former club Newells to build a new training complex for the club. The final cost being some three million pounds.

The centre is named after Jorge Griffa a Newells and Atletico Madrid legend who after a great career as centreback became one of the finest scouts in world football.

Ipswich don't look in a clever shape, look like they could be another of the teams in the list to drop to 3rd tier

Serves them right for demanding Big Mick to quit .

Always been a fussy lot about their style of football .

Oh well Ipswich fans can enjoy league One .

Leoline of The LTA is an Ipswich fan.
I made this point to him recently and he insisted Mick had to go as STs were dropping year on year.
The team would appear to be joining them.

Well they probably expected a better and experienced manager than an ex Grimsby and Shrewsbury one .

Did well in League One though which might help them .

must be a regional thing, I live in Norwich and all the locals prattle on about is how many STs they've got which therefore makes them a big club.

I do feel sorry for Ipswich supporters though, the club is being run into the ground by the owner, could so easily have been us going the same way

QPR seem to have turned things around with McBrolly and are now on a very decent run. From relegation favourites to a point off the playoffs.

Since they managed to get some players in over the age of 21 I think - Hemend and Wells for example.

  30. Wow, the Championship is immense this year!

16 games gone. Just 5 points separating the top 8.

All the big boys are there - Norwich, Boro, Leeds, West Bromwich, Derby, Forest, Sheffield United.

And the teams that aren't there - Stoke (who are playing some of the best football at the moment), Villa, Brentford and QPR are all still on the radar.

It's usually an exciting league but has it ever been as close as this with so many huge teams involved?

So, on both occassions that we were relegated (2000 and 2007), the 2 teams relegated with us have never made it back up to the prem in the following 17 and 10 seasons.....
