Perfect illustration in the NI v. Bosnia game this afternoon of why short corners are such a waste. Short corner after short corner (all coming to nothing), then in injury time they decide to put one in the mixer and score! Shame they were losing 2-0 at the time. The second Bosnia goal was the result of a bad mistake by Craig Cathcart.
I can’t remember ever seeing a goal scored from a short corner, except possibly by Barca following 5 minutes of passing and a final dribble and goal by Messi. Get it in the box!
Technically - Pereyra's volley against Brighton was from a short corner. Doucoure touched it a few yards to Holebas, giving him a different angle to swing in the cross. But if they're still crossing from barely 5 yards from the corner spot, then it's hardly any different from a normal corner. Must admit that I'm always disappointed when a corner is played short. With Holebas currently in such fine set-piece form, make hay while the sun shines!
Quick corners are massively under utilised. If someone can take a corner right off - just swing it in while the defence switch off and the keepers drying his gloves ans having a drink.
