...for our "comrades" over the border. I know elsewhere that there's been talk about "The Hut" but I have fond memories of using "The Hut" at the top of the Vicarage Rd terrace (Red Lion corner) that used to sell. amongst many oither things, Watford Subbuteo teams - always with "Partick Thistle" crossed out overwritten "WFC" in biro on the printed label....

EDIT: And that is a classy looking striped kit.

Does that mean we are due a ghost goal again soon? Bit tough with goal line tech...

And subbuteo had one yellow team with red shorts, with both partick thistle and watford on the pack. You had a claret and blue set covering villa burnley and west ham etc. It might have developed after i stopped playing with more finite detail on the kits?

A couple of years ago I saw in the window of one of B'wood's many boutiques specialising in objets d'art* a pair of boxed subbuteo teams: the scummers and "us" (wearing a very accurate facsimile of the Iveco kit). I bought "us" for a cheer-you-up gift for a "mate" who was having a bit of a tough/stressful time. I, myself, was cheered up beyond measure to see that the printed label described the team as "Partick Thistle".

    *AKA "charity shops".

We also got Mo Johnston from Partick, they are our Scottish brethren.

We would now be twinned with Dortmund on Subbuteo, I suspect.

    Shows how far we've come.

I have a Watford Subbuteo man on my window ledge.
His friends are in their box but I keep him out for good luck, safe from the praying paws of Ford and Arthur!

In my day (early 70s) the boxes weren't marked with a team, just a number.

So no crossings out of Partick Thistle required.

Btw, I'm not sure if I'm allowed the casting vote on this long running issue but let me confirm that my Subbuteo men proudly sport BLACK shorts.

I believe mine also wore black but unfortunately, like many of the other teams, played with 3-4 men "permanently injured with two snapped legs", so typically 8 wfc players took to the field. The opponents were usually similarly constrained. On agreement, both teams would occasionally loan 3 players from teams with similar colour kit. Occasionally a player would come close to recovery from these injuries but the gait would never be quite right causing a slight lean in one direction which prevented them from ever getting back to their previous form. For some time i felt Chalo might suffer the same fate.

I see our injury situation hasn't changed over the years then.

I wasn't into Subbuteo but did have a Watford painted mini that I used on my scalextric track.

On a very rainy gay in Kent last week we spent an hour here. As a fun-packed experience it was really, really **** (althought I was tempted by a £5 scalextric t-shirt) but as a memorial to Britain's design, engineering and manufacturing "heritage" it was heart-breaking.
