The Premier League will trial VAR at 15 matches this season – starting after the international break. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/11490710/premier-league-to-trial-var-this-season About time, I'm sick of everyone who whined it'll spoil the game who are now saying VAR would have highlighted the errors made so far this season. The World Cup showed how useful it was and made for a great tournament. In Serie A, it's in its second season, the refs love it and errors have been reduced significantly. Those who say it'll slow the game down...well the ball's in play for an average of 65 minutes in a 90 minute game...so you're being short changed. Those who complain their teams will get shafted...means they wll either have to stop cheating or they won't benefit from incorrect decisions...which is a good thing. Neymar being the perfect example of a cheat being exposed (watch out Richarlison as well). Time to stop being dinosaurs.
It's a shadow trial though. Basically a proof of concept for the officials' governing body to able to made a case to the PL to introduce it properly at next summer's AGM.
Palace fans demanded this to come in after the Capoue/Zaha incident .. Maybe they ought to ask their own chairmn why he rejected it.,
It won't be used during our match with United though. It's just for the five 3pm matches on 15th September. Another 10 matches will be trialled later on.
Huge fan of video replays assisting officials, not necessarily VAR. But to have some games in a season using it and some others not is ridiculous. They missed the opportunity for this season already and should wait until next year.
Yes I agree that will cause problems but then common sense doesn't seem to happen too often in football !!
No Premier League games are using it this season. It's perfectly fair. The FA are using it in their competition but only where the technology is available.
Personally I think the VARs should be referees who've had to retire from officiating games because they've passed the age threshold - people like Howard Webb and also referees looking to make the step up to the Premier League so they can get some experience and also be mentored.
Ahhh that will teach me* to jump the gun and only read the first few lines! * it won't though will it...
Yes but in the Spuds Liverpool game, Son was clearly fouled at the death ans Spuds should have had a penalty.
