Undisclosed. I hate this phrase. Why can't we know how much a player has gone for?

Because every other club fan base would be embarrassed by how much Gino has pulled their pants down. This undisclosed rule is purely there because of Gino.

Anyone else think we let Richarlison go too soon?

Time for Gino to exercise that £10m buyback clause he had inserted.

Emergency loan system should allow us to sign him from our sister club.

Should be a problem releasing him from his zero hour contract. I’ll call Just Eat

Can someone sort this out once and for all: - Are clubs still allowed to sign free agent out of contract players or not?

The reason I ask is that there was an article in the Daily Mail the other day that said that Man City are desperately looking around for an out of contract GK to sign as they have a goal keeping crisis due to injury.

This article also said that they have not been given permission to use the emergency loan system, so they must try to find an out of contract keeper to sign, which seems to infer that clubs are indeed allowed to sign out of contract players before January, unlike what many have been saying on this forum.

I would imagine this would of course have to be done before the cut off for naming the final 25 man squad, but other than that it sounds like we could still sign out of contract players if we want to.

I think you can sign free agents, as long as that free agent left their club before the previous transfer window closed (and so they are not registered to a club). You can also make emergency loans/ signings in exceptional circumstances, but this requires permission from the league and they essentially only allow this if you do not have a goalkeeper due to multiple injuries).

We can sign free agents. After 1 September though they can only play if we have a place in our 25 man squad and the PL gives permission for them to be added.

Romain Poirot was our (and Udinese's) European Scouting Consultant after he was poached from Manchester City's mothership - The City Group - where he fulfilled the same role. Today it has emerged he is now 1st Team Scout at Manchester United as of this month. He left the Pozzo payroll in July of this year.

Maybe he's been as responsible for some of the duds or non-signings in the recent windows as Geraldi?

    Here's his Linkedin page with Watford/Udinese job description cut+paste for your perusal;

    European Scouting Consultant
    Watford Football Club
    July 2017 – July 2018 1 year 1 month
    Région de Lyon, France
I worked with both Watford FC and Udinese Calcio with responsibility for the following key areas in the identification and recruitment of talented players:

    Talent ID -
    • Recommending players in line with each club’s financial, technical and positional requirements
    • Contributing to the signing of these players through liaison with agents, families and the players
    • Identifying talented managers and coaches capable of contributing to the coaching structure

    Networking -
    • Developing relationships with clubs to remain fully aware of emerging talent and contract situations
    • Generating a pull system aligned with each club’s long term development strategy
    • Creating global synergies between clubs and other organisations
    • Professionally representing the brand image and values of the clubs

    Generating Value -
    • Ensuring all players recruited are positively impacting their club both on the pitch and economically
    • Identifying players that represent a sound long term investment and high potential sell-on value

For anyone unsure about the signing of free agents once the transfer window closes, here is (hopefully) the definitive word on the matter via Football.London

The following text makes up part of the article from the link below.
    https://www.football.london/premier-league/can-free-transfers-loans-still-15039577

    What about free agents?
Again, it's a no for Premier League clubs.
They won't be able to sign out-of-contract players until January.
Football League clubs have until the end of August to sign up free agents.
In years gone by, clubs were able to sign free agents at any point, but (with) clubs under orders to submit their 25-man squads, this is no longer permitted.
The window for European clubs remains unchanged, allowing English clubs to sell players abroad up until the usual deadline on 31st August.

That's literally an exact copy and paste of the Mirror article which caused the confusion/doubt on here in the first place.

    Which isn't a surprise as Football.London is a subsidiary of...the Mirror.

Surely if the 25 man squads haven't been submitted (which I don't think they have) then free signings could be added?

Nothing to apologise for. Someone posted about it around the time it came up. It causes confusion because it's cobblers. There's no source for it other than a so-called journalist's imagination. Another ace job by renowned sports correspondent Phil Space.

I didn't realise that, thanks for clarifying. I'll take Football.London out of my bookmarked sites. It's a mess and difficult to read so if they're filling it with rubbish as well it's not worth the effort needed to use it.

We are 29th in world football, for the biggest expenditure in assembling our squad.

Above us from the Premier League are Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton, Leicester, Southampton, West Ham & Palace.

Fulham are only £1m behind us.

So, all being equal, with money being the sole arbiter, we should around be 12th or 13th. We are £59m behind Crystal Palace, so there's quite a gap to the next club above us.

This is an interesting table, but can be abit of a red-herring because of our transfer strategy.

Fulham are 1m behind us, but almost all of their money went into the starting eleven.

Their starting eleven will cost significantly more than ours, but when you starting going down the pecking order their squad starts to look very weak. Where you expect them to finish depends on injuries; if Fulham don't have any real injuries then they should finish above based on expenditure.

Have they actually got any decent players though? I've never heard of any of the shyte they've bought, apart from mitrovic, and he's gash.

Red herring table indeed! We could sell doucoure and Deeney for 55 million and buy them back for the same price and go,up,the table 4 places!

Well we were reportedly after Anguissa who has looked pretty decent, and Seri is very good. I think Schurrle is quality aswell.
