Indeed. He's slowly moving from 'grinning idiot' to 'our grinning idiot'. If we beat Palace, I won't call him either anymore.
I loved our organisation and game management in the second half. Gracia has us playing intelligent football, with a bit of flair at the right moments. Our first goal was lovely. We need to cut out the panic when the ball is launched into the box and we need better communication between our centre backs and full backs. A few times, neither took responsibility and the opposition nicked the ball. These are luckily only small things which can be easily improved. Finally, I never thought I'd say this, but Holebas is looking very solid.
This is who he reminds me of as in 'Troy Deeney e done a whoopsy in my beret'. But I love Frank so that's ok.
Awesome. Gray and Deeney proving me and a few others wrong. Long may this continue. Onwards and upwards. U orns
3-1 to the football team. Lowton is a disgrace for the deliberate stamp on Success' hand that the ref missed. I hope the book is thrown at him after the fact.
Well in the first half we were out played, still all right but definatley 2nd best 2nd half thought we look very good 3 great goals, Deeney and Gray in the same match who would have believed it , almost as astonishing as holebas being good 2 matches running Thought Pereya and Janmat where both a bit quiet , but Hughes made up for it You can see how much difference Javi is making as a manager, some of our little touches are sublime and everybody is running around and putting a good shift in , Deeney and Gray particularly seem enthused
Thank you everyone in the shout box this afternoon great time as usual and also a good football result too! Massive win in terms of confidence considering how dreadful we were last season away, so that will help us to hopefully continue some good momentum into our other away games. Great start, fantastic goal by Gray but poor making for their leveller and despite dominating possession and one near miss, we never looked in real danger of conceding again. Deeney seems a lot fitter, faster and more like his old self - we look and play so much better as 4-4-2, so I hope if injuries stay minimum we can keep the shape. Subs did ok. Sema got hacked down harshly, and nice to finally see Success again in the premiership for us, he needs game time but must be eased in so it's understandable he will act as a sub first. Foster was calm apart from maybe one hairy moment, but credit to Cathcart especially for a stunning tackle first half that almost put Burnley ahead again. Holebas again had a good game and not much to say negative about him. Hughes looked off the pace first half then got booked, but second half he ran the field and his goal and our third was class. Peyera had a quieter game today but got stuck in. Great feeling to finally wins away at last... hopefully the first of many this season. Palace next back at the vic (or is it the cup)? Let's see how long we can keep our unbeaten start going... including pre season thats six unbeaten now. BTW - @wfcmoog enjoy your BBQ
Great game management, and 3 great goals. When you have great goals, you can score against anyone (as opposed to scruffy bundled in goals which a half decent defence like Burnley can prevent) I was trying to work out who Chris Wood looks like.
Dyche will no doubt find something to complain about. I find him incredibly tedious, and I hope they get relegated
"Ponzo FC only have foreign players from Udinese B!!!!!!!" Yeah, 3 goals today from our Brexit lads from ooop North! 'Ave it!
I thought Troy was great today. First time he's been in shape for what seems like years, and he is looking a hell of a lot better for it. Now that assist from Doucoure...
TG was excellent in Black Books. Extremely difficult role to pull off & delivered with aplomb. Never scored with her face at the Rookery End, however.
Gray and Deeney scoring is very pleasing. Both needed a good start to the season, and they've delivered.
Great display in the second half. We started the game well and got that great goal, but I always expected Burnley to come back strongly and they did as well as being on top at half time. However it was always going to be a game of two halves, and Burnley were always going to tire in the second 45. That being said we scored a couple of cracking goals, and some of our midfield play was absolutely sublime. Only one team deserved to win today, and we all know it wasn't Burnley. Foster - looked a little uneasy at times in the first half, but did what he had to in the second half. Never really excelled, but did wind the Burnley fans up a fair bit. 6/10 Janmaat - again looked ok, and wasn't given heaps of protection in the first half. Solid enough throughout, some nice touches going forwards. 6/10 Cathcart - so nice to have him back. Made some great blocks in the first half and looks composed at the back. 7/10 Kabasele - has really grown into the starting 11 and you can see why. One or two errant touches but otherwise pretty comfortable throughout. 7/10 Holebas - having a bit of a renaissance at the start of this season. Written off by many he worked hard today, and deserves some of the plaudits for controlling Lowton on the Burnley right flank. Got forwards well and although his set piece delivery was not called on much today, those balls he did put into the box were high quality. 7/10 Hughes - great strike and lovely touch. Worked tirelessly down the right. Never going to be the quickest but his first touch is sublime, I think we have a real gem in him. 8/10 Capoue - strolled around Turf Moor like he owned the place. At the moment it would be exceedingly hard to drop him as he just keeps things ticking over. Some of his passing is exquisite. Will be interestd to see if he can maintain his form. 7/10 Doucoure - another solid game. Clearly still finding his fitness, but was a step up from his game last week. So important to us and is key to our press. 7/10 Pereyra - quieter game from him today, but some of his passing and movement was beautiful. Will have better games in a yellow shirt. 6/10 Gray - looks so much better in a front two. Always moving off the ball and we might be beginning to see the player we thought we had signed. Great movement leading up to his goal, and I'm going to say the finish was more deliberate than lucky. 8/10 Deeney - led the line and worked damn hard. Really deserved his goal and his finish was well taken. My MOTM. 9/10 Sema - neat little cameo, very neat on the ball. Just needs to move it out of his feet a bit quicker. Will come with time in the premier league. 6/10 Femenia - not enough time to give a grade but some very neat little touches. Success - again a promising cameo. Put himself about and is not afraid to get stuck in. Can do a job for us. Final words on Gracia. He has got the team playing how he wants, neat interplay, good press and a high line. Long may it continue.
We all know Troy is a much better footballer than 99% of non Watford fans believe he is. Last season he was fat, lazy and believed his own hype. It’s early days, but this season he looks fitter and he looks to be putting in the effort that got him where he is in the first place.
I appreciate your thoughts on my well-being Or more accurately ****-being Cathcart was an absolute rock. Him and Holebas made 2 goal saving blocks between them.
Our first away win since November. Our first away goal in 229 days. Our first away goal in 728 minutes of football. Our first under Gracia. Today’s first goal scorer Andre Gray was also the man who got that last away goal all those months ago. Today was the first time we’ve had 3 English goalscorers since December 2011. Today was the first top flight season since 82-83 that we’ve won our opening two matches, and our first ever in the PL. In 82-83 we finished runners up to Liverpool. Heady days but a reminder WBA won their first two matches last season. Long way to go. Terrific start though.
Sloppy in the first half and got sucked into playing the game Burnley wanted Second half was top drawer - can't pick fault anywhere The slim fit Deeney looks a different player, the one we all remember know and love
Another easy win, looking forward to a challenging game worth our time. Good to see Gracia get an away victory, good to see both strikers score. Belter from Hughes. Professional performance.
