Hopes up for Wimbledon then crushed with boring Reading. Winnable, but such a bland draw for us.

Crap tie, but one which paradoxically may work in our favour as they won't be as up for it as a lower league side who will see us a scalp, and playing away from home at a Championship side (even if not a very good one) may force our boys to step it up a bit and be less prone to complacency.

We really need a decent run in this competition (mind I've been saying this for god knows how many years!), having only done really well in the League Cup twice, in 1978/79 and 2004/05. 2001/02 was a real missed opportunity, had we had anyone but that Italian ****** in charge with a struggling Blackburn awaiting in the semis we might have gone all the way to the final.

Here's our record in the LC (scroll to near the bottom) - pretty grim reading since 2005. I'd forgotten once again that we got that far in 2008/09...

The real missed opportunity was in 1984/85 when we lost at home to Sunderland in the quarter final. We were pretty much the best team left in but we messed up and the two teams that made the final both ended up being relegated (Sunderland & Norwich).

Good draw for me as it’s only a few miles away but pretty dull. I know we won’t play a full side but I hope we treat it as an opportunity to win something and not as a pre season friendly which is what it’s normally like. Good chance for players like Success, Sema and Masina amongst others

Does it not tell us something that we’ve done reasonably well in the FA cup over the past few years but terrible in the tin pot cup? Nobody gives a a **** about it!

As fans we never learn. Every year we trott along to whatever the League cup has been renamed as, full of hope that we can progress and maybe even win. We see the team sheet and think, well, surely our B team will want to prove a point to the new manager, only for them to plod through the game like an employee who has just been given a months notice.

I’ll still be going as we lose 1-0 in the 119th minute.

Not a great but will still be a good laugh, afternoon off work and a few beers and no need to stay overnight.

Hope the ****s actually try though.

I might actually go to this if it's on the Tuesday night that week, as I work in Reading. I'd hope I'll be able to get a ticket on the door for this as I suspect the attendance will be about one man and his dog.

We are too thin on cover at the back and up front. In fact we daren't even play the reserves so let's thrown the U23 team in !

    Excellent draw.

Let's look at the facts: since the inception of the League Cup in 1960 Reading have NEVER won the whole thing. This means every year a team has knocked them out.

That's 58 League Cup campaigns, 58 teams eliminating Reading at some stage.

Why can't it be 59? What if #59 was Watford? We can dream!

Who actually cares about this competition? We might as well play the under-23s.

Do attendees of matches at least get a free, steaming-hot cup of carabao for their troubles?

Not a bad draw for us, winnable. Even if it is just the b-team. More effort than we showed last season against Bristol City would be appreciated too.

You are too negative, with Cathcart and Hughes' return last Saturday we showed just how good we can be with our team back to full strength (even it was against a poor Brighton side with a terrible away record). And our weakened team, while by no means any great shakes, proved good enough to stay in the Premier League, so we can just put out the team that limped to 14th during the last six months of last season.

I can understand us not bothering so much with the League Cup during the first few seasons after promotion when the priority was PL survival over chasing two cups, but now we have strength in depth and experience why not give this a go for once?
