Shame the general bad vibe over the window detracts from a good signing for the future, a talented kid.
Blimey, what have West Ham done to the London Stadium? I know their fans can get a bit rowdy, but that's a ******* joke.
It's not always easy to man manage, he's saying, he has a future, he's lowering immediate expectations and taking the pressure off short term and he's setting expectations with the player. I think that's all fair enough.
This one wasn't bad either in the U19 Euros this summer: Does look a good prospect. Could become a goalscoring Kante.
We’ve signed two 18 year olds this window who if both live up to expectations could be massive stars for us for many years to come. At opposite ends of the pitch too. Football is more and more about the now, and many of us are disappointed about our apparent failure to address more pressing matters with the first team. However, I think we’ve made two excellent signings here in Wilmot and this guy and we’ve shown the future is just as important as the right now.
The problem is that the "right now" problems may well very negatively and directly impact the future.
If you’re good enough you’re old enough. There’s no reason he won’t play this year. Wilmot too. There’s nothing written into their contracts that says ‘ok we will sign you now but you won’t be near the first team for another three years’. Impress in training and in the League Cup tie this month (plus Wilmot has already appeared in pre season games) and hopefully both will have a part to play in the league too. Like most people here I’m horrified we’ve not signed another striker. We look very short up top. However, trying to remain positive, I think both Gray and Deeney can up their goals tally from last year by quite a bit. Gray has had a good pre season and sometimes players need a season at a club to find their feet. Deeney looks fitter and injury free. The Head Coach looks as if he might play them together, something so many people cried out for last season. Plus they might get better service too because we’ve strengthened our midfield. I do worry though what would happen if either of them got injured or totally lost form. But we’re constantky being told Gracia is good at working with what’s he’s got and getting the best out of limited resources. Now’s his opportunity to prove his doubters wrong.
Completely agree. Some people are obsessed with sending young players out on loan to get experience. Sometimes you only find out how good they are when they get the chance.
Or look at where he comes from. West Ham fans don't particularly rate him and say he has a Sterling style agent who has forced through this move for the money. For a kid that was 'linked with Barcelona' (aren't they all when we sign them?) they don't seem overly fussed about him leaving. We seemed more bothered about Luke O'Nien leaving.
My knowledge of this lad dates back to a few hours ago when I first heard we were signing him. Those that know far more than me - surely he can't be all that if West Ham have let him go for what in today's world is a small fee? Want to believe we've made the best value for money signing of the window. Actually can't help feeling we've signed somebody not quite as good as Lukebakio.
Just reading a West ham forum. They reckon he's a million miles away from being ready for this league. Great!
Yeah I didn't really quote the post I was replying to properly. I meant Wilmot should have a chance of playing if he shows enough in training as he looks pretty good in the friendlies. Don't know anything about this other bloke, I'm guessing he's bench fodder for when we get massively hit by injuries and need bums on seats on the sidelines. You know, like for the first game of the season.
I know he isn't a central midfielder anyway but crazy to think we are going into the new season with just 2 central midfielders fit! This guy will probably play for the Under 23s - get on the bench and then be injured.
Quina is here to play. He left Chelsea and West Ham because his path to the first team wasn't there. I think we'll be seeing a fair bit of him this season.
I seem to remember a certain young 18 year old coming on loan to us from Chelsea and having a very big impact on the team.
