Low ball offer. Never going to be accepted. 8 out of 10 on the cheeky-o-meter.

That sounded so penny pinching and tight that I thought you’d faked it for a laugh.

Maybe if we'd stop throwing money at pointless sensory rooms and the like we could actually afford some decent players.

How much do you think it costs to decorate a room and how many minutes of Paco Alcacer’s time would that buy?

£10.7m for Dawson was never going to fly. Whilst a couple of years older than Gibson, they'd surely want at least as much to sell.

Maybe we're going in low, hoping that he and his agent will push for a move.

How low ball is that? Really though for a relegated centre half who has never played in a top quality team?

    It makes complete sense.

As for the instalments all number of transfer deals are spread like that (Pogba, Mbappe, Bale notable examples). In fact for selling clubs, a constant cash flow is great to borrow against. It really doesn't seem as daft as first thought above.

I think it is pretty reasonable, except for the loan part. £10m got Dawson seems about right

I said low ball offer because they're supposed to have made it clear they want £20m for him. Albeit at the start of the summer, when it seemed like there would be more competition for his signing. And Burnley bid more for him.

At the very least the loan element with an option attached in our favour is a piss take at £700k. He's a proven PL defender and perfectly capable at this level. If we want him we'll no doubt have to take him permanently up front.

They're apparently after £20m. Their manager has frozen him out of their training squad after he handed in a transfer request, so I can't believe they wouldn't be willing to drop their ask (although certainly not halve it).

£15m sounds about right to me in this market, for a solid, homegrown and tested PL defender who scores a handful of goals per season.

I agree. I just think there is a mile of negotiation to be done to meet in the middle considering how far off our opening bid is. Given how hectic things are getting, being last minute, and Gino notoriously driving a hard bargain...

This last minute frenzy to acquire players is absolutely nuts. Whose idea was the bloody transfer window anyway? Was it that self important Sky Sports turd Jim White??

My main gripe is with the idiots that thought that England should unilaterally close their transfer window a couple of weeks earlier than the rest of Europe, in a World Cup year.

“B..b..but the window should close before the first game, end of!” Clubs have only just got their WC players back in the last week. They’re asking EPL clubs alone to make decisions on their squads without even seeing up-to-date data on their own players.

Clubs with a new managers are in a lot of trouble, I reckon.

Good negotiation tactic, start low. We should have done that with Ellinglump instead of throwing money at them.

I think a cheeky £7m ordinary bid, with three ordinary payments of 3m cheeky pounds would be fair, plus a number of unreasonable but fair add ons

Though to be fair, that is just about the window closing early, not earlier than everyone else.

The details were blatantly linked by Brom to try and trigger a last minute bidding war.

Dawson's a good player, though isn't he a bit better as a RB than a CB?

Though I know you can never have too many RBs.

Yes at 6ft 2 you would think he is better suited as a solid CB than a speedy right back. Bear in mind WBA RBs don't tend to go charging fwd under Pulis, Clarke etc so easy to fill in there.

Given that West Brom sold Johnny Evans this summer for £4m, I think our opening offer is very generous
