Now it's obvious where all Watford's competence resides, it's with the ground crew!

Shame what we're seeing on the pitch doesn't match the standards of the pitch.

It’s no surprise we have a good pitch, considering the amount of manure we spread on it every other week.

If they are that good taking care of the pitch, what are they like with hamstrings ?

I'm not surprised at this and actually wondered if we'd be in the running for that award this season. The pitch has looked immaculate all season and it's clear a lot of work goes into it. And when you think about what a pig of a pitch we had in our first season at this level it really does show what an achievement it is.

I suppose the only risk, like everything else for a club of our stature, is a bigger club might appear and try to have our groundstaff away on a free. Still, if that happened we could always put them on gardening leave...

Fantastic achievement for Scott Tingley and his team. The pitch was falling to bits until he was recruited before the FA cup tie against Newcastle and a temporary surface was laid to get to the end of the season. Since then, the new pitch has been absolutely superb.

The last few days of the old surface under the original staff:

Compared to it's current, glorious condition:

It's a damned fine pitch, there's no denying that.

An update from Scott Tingley regarding the award winning pitch - resurfacing started already!

I guess for it to look as amazing as it has done all season, the work never stops. I don't think they can top last seasons effort, so here's hoping next seasons is at least as good.

The pitch is dead, long live the pitch!! (or something like that......)

    Commiserations.

Presumably some Argentinian or Italian groundsman with tatts & a stupid haircut got it.

At least we can benefit from your wisdom on here.

From an article on the official site about a survey regarding homophobia in football - you can see in the pictures the recently relaid pitch starting to look very good:

Also notice that the Bet138.com signs above the exits in the SEJ have been removed, although they're clearly present elsewhere still. People have mentioned their name not appearing on the sleeve of the new shirt, so possibly their presence within the ground is starting to be removed also??

Perhaps we can have a rainbow striped pitch next season?

They're to go with the jackets and trousers which you can't see in either of Jossy's pictures...

    Rainwear too...
(Not sure why he isn't wearing the new regulation rainbow trousers here. Someone is gonna get in trouble!)

  20. And revert to this kit too?

Then we'd never notice Holebas standing still...

It's verging on obscene how good that pitch is.

Certainly we have nothing like the biggest or best stadium but my god we have one of the nicest.

Sowing with a seed type (that ive never heard of.. i guess the RT stands for Rigby Taylor) and applying fertiliser (that ive never heard of)
12.2.12 is the NPK or Nitrogen/phosphorus/ potassium content of the fertiliser.. and the Mg & Ca parts of it must be magnesium and calcium additives.

Rigby Taylor was a WFC Chairman.

He retired on account of being too ‘old & tired, disappointed & disillusioned’.

I assume he took up residence on this forum.

Yeah i remember the Rigby- Taylor cup between us and.. them.

I did a bit of work with Rigby Taylor (the turf consultancy company) a few years back. Asked the ex managing director if there was any link between the company and the ex Watford chairman. He didn't know.

It's amazing (what I presume is one of the underground sprinkler nozzles) is so blatantly obvious amongst the perfection which is the rest of the pitch.

  29. Stevohorn

Post bracket I believe. The pop up sprinklers are cocovered with a piece of artificial grass.

Why don’t our nozzles work properly? (Fnaar, fnaar!)
We have to employ skivvies to twist them round manually at half-time.

Dunno what their irrigation set up is.. but i used to place my Sprinklers (the nozzle is just part of it) in a position so they could cover the correct area during the limited time you have to put water down at half time. I would also go out while they were operating to forewarn people of where and when they were coming on.

I imagine the "skivvies" are manually adjusting the sprinklers to make sure they cover the required areas.

Should place water cannons on the stadia roof and fire it on to the pitch. Have a word with mr wind beforehand mind.

The first few minutes of the clubs latest 'Another angle' vid are of the grounds team explaining the pitch preparation:

And in this video, Scott Tingley talks about the pitch being like a beach in terms of the amount of water it requires:

It seems some of the players think that too, judging by some of the performances we have to witness.
