OK, so the thread title is a bit sh*t but I could literally fill this place up with the videos I take on a daily basis. I'll post a few of my own as they happen but feel free to add videos that you see with more examples of cr*p driving. This was inspired by a single minute of driving home from Watford today where I saw 3 incidents, the last one being the most idiotic. Yes, my driving leaves a lot to be desired, especially the undertake, (which at the time I thought was a cracking move). Can you spot the first at 10 seconds? Apologies for the dirty windscreen, it hasn't rained for a while! ...and yeah I just saw the date is wrong, battery must have been on when I took it out at the weekend.
Both drivers at fault are idiots and there could easily have been an accident. Have to say I spend quite a lot of spare time watching dashcam and policecam footvage of bad driving. Could easily have gone wrong. I think it’s endemic to London and it’s immediate suburbs. People don’t have respect for other people when in their expensive little bubbles. No way you’d be such a **** in person to a little old lady on the street - I’d hope. Come to the countryside, the proper countryside, we are much more polite in our driving. I encounter the M25 and London twice a month unfortunately. It is so stressful to drive there. No one is friendly or patient or forgiving
It doesn't surprise me, driving in Watford and it's surrounding areas is awful. The amount of non indicating people is shameful. They should be done for dangerous driving.
Personally think it should be a requirement to have a dashcam in your car, for insurance and such. Or at least have them installed in new cars
Not a criticism at all Diamond but how fast were you driving as you went past the school in the last bit? It looked quick, but I always think the perspective of the dashboard cam makes this seem quicker. Also I looked at 10 seconds but didn't see it? What am I missing? I do an awful lot of driving, often in my van for at least 5 hours a day. I see some absolutely terrible driving, and I'm sure I have also done some bad driving. However one thing that never ceases to amaze me is how some people just cannot reverse a car! Its absolutely pathetic. You have three types of reverser: 1. The competent one. Uses their wing mirrors to maximum effect, is able to keep the car going in a straight direction whilst reversing. 2. The man arm up technique. Usually male drivers who throw their left arm elaborately behind the headrest of the left passenger seat and reverse with their right hand on the wheel whilst looking out of the back window. 3. The snake style reverser. God only knows how these people passed their tests. They reverse using solely the rear view mirror and proceed to snake their car across the road crashing into multiple hedgerows and signposts.
Feel free to criticise, I have no problem with it. I wouldn't have started this thread if I was sensitive. Under 40 on the ring road and I'd be surprised if I was going faster than 20-25 round that last bend so possibly 30 max when the volvo turned right. My initial thoughts were exactly what you said and that she saw me late, but on watching the video back I was visible for plenty of time. I also think dashcams make it seem like you're going faster due to the fisheye effect.
My major gripe is lane discipline. Driving back last Sunday from Kent (A299, M2, A2, M25, A1) on the two lane bits - wasn't too bad. Something I noticed was that everyone who was pootling along in an overtaking lane (2 of 3, 3 of 4 and 3-4 of 5) at 60 mph was driving virtually hunched over their steering wheels with the arms bent...
Yer that's what I thought. I've always been surprised that the area around by the school is not more of a 20mph zone. That's not the first time there have been near misses on that bend.
Tell me about it. I hate lane hoggers. I make a deliberate point of overtaking them, then putting my indicators on and then pulling into the inside lane. Some of them get the message but many don't. Without wanting to seem ageist, sexist or racist it is very easy to stereotype your usual lane hogger.
I used to have a dashcam but the battery stopped recharging. There's 3 types of dashcam owners. 1 People like myself and it seems diamond who want to show friends or forum members what idiots do on the road because we often find it incredible. 2 Safety concious nerds who want 10% off insurance and also have a speed limiter on the car. 3 Complete Bellends who look for situations where people may have got in the wrong lane through not knowing the area etc. Then proceed to drive aggressively and laugh at the poor old lady stopped on the roundabout, or someone cut up momenta before dashcamwanker arrives on scene, usually followed by a point at the camera and a shout out the window about driving skills "got you on camera love". One from group three had me this morning after numerous cars undertaking me on a roundabout in heavy traffic, I found it not possible to move into the left lane of the short dual carriageway following the roundabout. I wanted to be in left lane as im not turning right at next roundabout then left quickly at third roundabout. So I indicate into a gap and start to move across, however I flicked the indicator (gives 3 blinks), didnt leave it on. So the car in the left lane speeds up to close the gap stopping me moving across, winds down the window and shouts at me to indicate as my indicator has by then stopped. Im presuming he missed the three blinks as I started to move. I called him a ***** and saw he had a dashcam. I hope he went home, checked the footage and saw he was wrong and he just drove like a moron.
I can't see any of these 'going viral'. Maybe try getting it up to 90 as you go round the one way system or do a couple of handbrake turns at some point
After getting "done" for doing 37 outside Costco and since the speed awareness course my car's speed limiter is no longer on 50% of the time but 100%. Also after getting "pranged" by a **** who fell asleep at the wheel, admitted what he had done to me AND on the recorded 'phone call from my insurance company BUT SOMEHOW HIS INSURANCE REFUSED TO ACCEPT LIABILITY FOR THE CRASH* I really have to get one. *The free "legal" on my policy finally got him/them to cough up for repairs.
Yeah, a cheap as chips basic model, ran the wire around the windscreen edging and into the cigarette lighter socket. Once it gets power it records in 3 minute sections, overwriting old files once the SD card is full. You can go to town on them but this was a touch over £30. Amazon special. I got a dashcam for 2 reasons. I like gadgets and in case of an insurance claim. A couple of years ago I witnessed an accident on the Stockley Road and had to fill out multiple forms for the innocent party to be successful in their claim. They were so grateful as it went all the way to court before they won. I just thought if I had a dashcam it would have been game over.
Had a great one today. Two lanes turning right, lights red, as I pull up a car completely cuts me up, followed soon after by a Police van with blue lights flashing, front of queue panics, 2 cars collide, Police van decides to stop and sort out the collision, lights go green, chaos ensues. When I get home I'll chop up the video and post it.
Mods: please move this to Diamond's wistful driving memories thread. I only want dashcam footage in here. Stuff out of Crash Bang Wallop, What a Video
You seem to have assisted yourself there but, crikey, what a clip! The way his eyes hold the camera for the last 20 seconds whilst, I assume, grappling with a semi is breathtaking/semi inducing.
This whole thing reached its pinnacle with the Ronnie "***king" Pickering vid and the Russian dash cam footage of that meteorite that exploded. Good idea to have one for insurance purposes but **** me most of these vids are either boring or depressing.
I nearly hit a moose yesterday.. I wasnt driving, i was just in a really bad mood. No seriously its a big problem over here in Norway. As are Norwegian drivers. Some of the most impatient, discourteous road users ive come across. If you wave someone in to the traffic for instance they just stare at you like youve just arrived from Mars!
Diamond I hope you have a left hand drive, as if that cam is in your line of vision... the Police wont like it and it could become inadmissible in court if you needed it. https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/dash-cams/article/how-to-install-a-dash-cam
