I don't see this move as petty or vindictive at all. It's not only reasonable, it's sensible.

    1. We'll likely land a fat wedge from Everton that we otherwise would have lost out on, probably at least what we wanted for him in the first place.
    2. We can negotiate a block on them coming in for our players, thus preventing them from profiting at our expense on other players they have unsettled.
    3. We can tell them to drop their claim in Deulofeu as part of the deal, potentially opening up an ability to sign him (whether or not he's interested is something else, but since he came here on loan already...).
    4. We send a strong message to the other clubs that we are not to be trifled with.
    5. Admission of wrongdoing on Everton's part vindicates the decision to sack Silva, which is important in terms of how those outside of the club view our actions.
    6. We basically hold all the cards in the negotiations because they've been caught with their hands in the cookie jar... which somehow seems appropriate for a bunch of Scousers.

Hopefully Gino and SD remove their hub cabs before driving up there.

Compulsory mediation is a common form of dispute resolution. It's expensive and time-consuming to convene a regulatory panel with an independent chair (likely a QC) and there will be legal costs for both sides in preparing and presenting their case. If something can be sorted informally between the clubs then so be it. I don't think that phase is necessarily completely dead yet either. As for Everton having a chance to pay their way out of things - isn't that just business? It's hardly the end of the world if they pay us a couple of million and we're all square. Feel free to quote this when it's all done and if the figure becomes public knowledge, but I'll be amazed if it's any more than £5m.

According to my colleague we're the bad guys. "You sacked him anyway so why are you bothered".

Surely, the meeting should be held at The Grove.

We need to form a rota to dine on neighbouring tables so as to keep itk.

Possibly, but that limits the opportunity to unfairly stereotype Scousers.

Chances are, Troy'll be somewhere in the dining room anyway; we can just get a message to him to take some notes and report back.

Typical scousers - tried to twoc our manager and failed. Now all that is left is a burned out wreck.

Forward the bill to Mr F Moshiri from Liverpool.

    Follow Gino's example.

I appreciate he’s not everybody’s cup of tea but I find him quite a refreshing, honest pundit, and I love Simon Jordan’s tweet about Silva tonight. Describes him as a disloyal, disingenuous slob. Says Everton could well reap what they sow with this one. Bravo!

Everton fans are clearly not taking this well. Only a matter of time before their frustrations get the better of them and they revert to type and start throwing out racist comments.

It really is genuinely amusing to watch them fail to get their tiny brains around why we are taking this action against their club. The reasons are simple and there for all to see, but they can't quite grasp it. Poor things.

Another thing adding to this delightful mix is that the transfer window ends before the season starts for the first time this year. If we can drag this out for a couple of months, we could limit Silva's input into their squad for the first half of the season, particularly as the World Cup will also disrupt the summer transfer merry-go-round...

Also confusing as to why they have been happy to blow over £200m on facelifting their squad fairly terribly - but are baulking at offering what we want to make this go away and get the manager they obviously believe can take them to the next level.

Their forum says it all. Creaming themselves about taking some coach we sacked and having to pay for the privilege. Gino is basically slipping his **** down their throat and asking them to thank him for it.

They took Z-Cars after we didn't want it anymore and now want our cast off former coach.

Absolutely pathetic club that have a good little effort every season but ultimately live off past glories as they have little to no possibility of any future ones.

They lost to several clubs in the Europa League last season which have the combined population of a farmer, his chickens and a forlorn old sheepdog yet they talk about wanting Conte when he leaves Chelsea.

    Embarrassing.

He absolutely hates players and managers who **** about with management/play games, doesn't he. Believe I heard him on Talksport around the time of the initial incident expressing a very similar sentiment, good on him.

    From their forum

"Was impressed when he took Estoril from the lower reaches of Portugal's second tier (Segunda Liga) to the higher echelons of the Portuguese top-flight (Primeira Liga).

Silva has done well at every club he's been at, bar Watford. And in fairness to him he had a tiny budget at Vicarage Road. Plus, Watford were in the top 10 when he was sacked."

Yeah right, no way he watched the Portugese second tier for starters, secondly, he did do well here to start with and thirdly what tiny budget? We spent loads, what a stupid post.
