I hate it when their teams sack their manager cos the style of football is shyte and the fans hate him.

This could be a thread about Allardyce or maybe Puel in a few days, at least none of us want Gracia out :D

Either Pep's upped the ante and every team should play like City or there's a new breed of mindset amongst supporters, perhaps both

This is how you do it when your teams mid table but you want more

Way too many clubs sack their perfectly competent manager in the pursuit of some sort of 'magician'. There are very few 'magicians' in football. If any. Mourinho was once one maybe but not anymore. GT too. But not Ferguson and Guardiola who are/were simply very good at 'percentages'. The Joka may be one. But be careful what you wish for.

Many think that is what we did with QSF... I would suggest it always looks different from the outside.

Yep. The grass is always greener eh? I think that's exactly what we did re. the Joka/QSF. Rejected the potential 'magician' on our hands already. Still, there's the possibility that he might be potentially available again soon.

I agree in part. But Ferguson was far far better than that. He basically reinvented his managerial style time and time again to keep up with modern trends whilst building an empire.

Maybe. But I don't give a whole lot of credence to 'magicians' with the biggest budgets. Apart from 'early Mourinho'.

Actually I meant when we sacked QSF. The Joka sacking seems to have been down to money. QSF seems to fit your category of a "perfectly competent manager" - at least to an outsider.

We had the opportunity for 'a potential magician' right there in our laps. Then blew if for QSF. I refuse to believe it was just down to money. I refuse to believe the Joka was greedy. I firmly believe that Gino and his cronies made all that up to cover themselves. Nasty. For me, it was their worst decision ever since arriving at our football club (the rest of which they've played an absolute blinder on).

Your comments are more apposite to QSF to Walter rather than the Joka to QSF.

Oh I see. You've recognised that. Apologies.

I agree that Pozzo wanted to upgrade for the Prem.

Joka, of course, wanted a chunky rise for getting promotion & Pozzo gave him only an insultingly nominal one to open the door for QSF.

I fancy Pozzo sees each season as a new mini project, a specific challenge.

I suspect most of us are beginning to prioritise continuity.

The fact that Qsf, Mazzari and Silva/Gracia have achieved parity more or less regarding league position each season shows that the 'Magic manager' blueprint is a needle in a haystack job and that all four managers were either decent or poor depending on how full your glass is. I'd say they did allright, but who wants mid table obscurity nowadays, oh for a cup to be thrown in though, we'd all be happy.

Qsf still gets a lot of stick for the Palace semi but the options off the bench were really poor, if he had the current squad how well would he do? We'll never know. I'm with Kelsohorn in that I'd be surprised if money was an issue for them going, but for every one that goes another potential manager will be put off coming here.

Meanwhile West Ham and Everton are taking a punt before probably turning to a Pulis to get them out of the doodoo come the new year

The difference between QSF and Moyes is that our form under QSF was abysmal for the last few months of the season. Moyes came in and transformed West Ham’s form into a top half of the table side. Moving Arnautovic to CF was a very shrewd move.

West Ham haven’t got the best record in hiring new managers. Their fans demand more than bad football with good results. However, they are a small club these days and never seem far from the threat of relegation.

And when they finally get a manager who is picking up results, they don’t consolidate. They get rid and push for more.

They’re begging for relegation. I hope they get it.

It's almost like they have a business plan with a cool graph drawn up by some university graduate at great expense - New stadium -Europe- Crash the big four by the year 2020 etc

The school of life business plan though is New stadium - Find out it's still 11 v 11 on the pitch- Fans get disgruntled - What happened to Sunderland again?

Putting Silva to one side, all three managers we’ve had in the Premier have gone down the road of prioritising the grind towards 40 points in the second half of the season over a push for the FA Cup. They all rested players in the cup ties so that they were ‘fresh’ to play the one up top, two holding midfielders style in the league. QSF’s team got to the semi in spite of his team selection, not because of it. I remember the string of 1-0 wins against poorer opposition, although I’ll be forever grateful for the day at Arsenal, while leaving Gomes out at Wembley was so disappointing.

I fail to see why, with only 38 league games per season and already out of the 'League Cup', there's any need to rest anyone at all. The only justification I can see for it is maybe to 'keep the B team happy'.

It's entirely different for the big teams who may still be playing on four fronts.

What I find utterly ridiculous about the dildo brothers at WHU is that they have sacked Moyes saying they want a manager to take them to the ‘next level’ without actually sourcing whether a manager capable of doing that wants the job. Seems Fonseca has turned the job down upon meeting Sullivan just once.

To be fair to Gino, when he moves a manager on, it is ALWAYS with an immediate plan for the immediate future. The same can’t be said of WHU.

Moyes isn’t the best of managers. But I actually think he gets a rough deal because he was the patsy who dared step into SAF shoes first. And he’s struggled to shake that off and it has led to poor career judgments at trying to rebuild himself. What he did at Everton with limited funds is easily forgotten.

He should take on one of the bigger sides in the Championship and work his way back in.

Its getting to the stage where managers will hesitate in joining a team mid season if they are going to get the heave ho after keeping them up, ok good compo but they want long term success like the fans after all

It's hard enough being a manager but to join mid way through a season with someone else's players but without a pre season to assess and prepare a squad to your standards - now that's really hard.

The sad thing about Moyes is that SAF told him he was the next Man U & he just accepted that meekly.

Flattering but a moment’s thought would have revealed that an awful call.

    Be the next but one.

Didn’t Moyes do a decent at DFC?

This managerial nonsense is getting like the dotcom bubble.

Then, all valuations assumed market domination.

Now, all clubs assume they are UEFA league minimum.

    Mini-skirt!

Makes it seem even shorter & more teasing.

Btw, I suspect Pozzo does overthink things. Bright fellow & I wonder if his role at WFC stretches him enough.

If you don’t wear a tracksuit, there’s only so much you can do at a football club.

Westerners often think of the haiku as a poem but it can be more insightful to compare it to a painting or a philosophical fragment.

While translating such an ethereal concept is fraught, I hope this gives an impression of the power of the haiku:

    Mary had a little lamb
    It was always gruntin’
So she tied it to a gate
And kicked its little **** in.

As much as I hate WHU, their fans and their owners, Pellegrini is a very solid appointment to be fair. Getting paid a massive wage though and it will still likely end in tears with those two in charge.

They’ve signed a manager who took Malaga to 4th place and a spot in the Champions League.

We just got the booby prize.
