Good stuff. Exactly the right thing to do. Kept our powder dry until they've decided to go back in for Silva, now let's cause them as much inconvenience and financial cost as possible. Hopefully we can disrupt the majority of their close season by tying them up with compensation disputes and an inquiry from the Premier League. Would be even better if they decided he wasn't worth the hassle and went elsewhere.

Agree. Petty move but I love it. Make this process as long and drawn out as possible for Everton.

To be fair, Southampton did the same to Liverpool over Van Dijk and it was enough to put the frightners on them for a while.

Silva to Everton will still happen but hopefully more light will be shed on the matter now and hopefully we can get a decent settlement out of it at the least.

I dare say we can’t have done this with no evidence to back it up. Will be interesting to see how willing the PL are to investigate it properly though!

Give us Keane, let us take Deulofeu without interruption and then we'll drop the burden of giving you a points deduction. After that, you can have the snakey barstard all you like

    Sincerely,

This will be a mess behind the scenes. It’s telling in that Telegraph story that stuff has been happening behind the scenes...

What is confusing to me is why would Everton enter into talks with us if they had done nothing wrong? If they were certain of their position, surely they’d just take the view that we sacked him so he’s fair game? So the fact they’ve got round a table with us last month tells me they know they’ve done wrong - but by failing to come to an agreement with us, they are essentially gambling on us not having evidence of wrongdoing to take to the PL. but you’d think by going to the PL that we must have something against them.

It’s fun reading the Everton forum right now BTW.

If I had to guess, I’d say we will get £12m compensation plus some sort of damages. Unless Everton decide to walk away from Silva and apologise publically like Saints/VVD. Guess it all depends how much they really value having him.

Either way, I really hope the PL are strong on this.

    I love it.

But they didn't, the mere threat was enough for them to cool their interest and release an official apology. This is taken one step further,

I can't remember which paper reported it back when it all started (Times/Telegraph possibly) - but they claimed Silva had spoken with Moshiri and agreed terms, as well as discussed which players he would take with him from our team.

If - and it's a big if - that was true, then you can only assume that Gino et al has some kind of proof of this, and they've been patiently waiting to see if Everton rekindled their interest in the snake.

Of course, having evidence of tapping up would lead us to question why Gino hasn't used it against Everton prior to now - but my best guess would be because they were planning on using this evidence against Silva regarding his compensation claim with the club - had he continued to remain out of work.

However it pans out, you have to assume team Pozzo knows what they're doing. Their eye for a good left back remains questionable, but they seem to excel when it comes to legal matters when you consider that they've never been found guilty of any wrong doing despite numerous investigations over the years.

I hope Gino and Scott absolutely take them to the cleaners:mad:.

    Wow.

"The Premier League suggested mediation between the two clubs and when Keith Harris and Bill Kenwright met Watford officials in London last month, they said that Silva would not be appointed as the next Everton manager."

Telegraph seems to suggest a points deduction for Everton is actually a possibility! Albeit unlikely - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...alks-watford-avoid-possible-points-deduction/

Didn't realise all this was happening behind the scenes and just how messy it was. Silva goes down in my estimations even more so after this.

The points deduction thing is simply a statement of the upper end of the possible sanctions for breaches of PL rules. It's clickbait. No one is getting a points deduction.

Good I’m glad sonething is being done. Maybe we can start next season with three points before a ball is kicked due to the Everton away match when this all started to slide.

I agree. A points deduction is the very top end of the punishments Everton will face. I expect we’ll be healthily compensated and receive a public apology (cursory as it will be).

Pleased we’re keeping our strong stance on the matter. Would be absolutely glorious if they decided Slither wasn’t worth the aggro and moved on to other targets.

I was surprised that a complaint wasn’t lodged at the time. Presumably we wanted to get the season out of the way first

I'd be upset if I was an Everton fan, all this effort to get a very average manager in - hopefully we make the process as awkward as possible and get some £££ to put towards some players. Still amazes me that there's still Watford fans that have their heads up Silva's arse.

Everton forum seems to think its about money, and a low figure at that. I think its about taking clear action that will make clubs think twice in future about tapping up our players or managers.

Its also a big middle finger up at Everton and Silva.

Draw it out as long as possible. Let’s disrupt their pre season as much as possible. As others have said they potentially cost us a European place. £100 M should do it. But I think they deserve a 20 point deduction as well

Who would you want to replace Everton in the premier league after they get thrown out and have to play in the National league?

No way is this a petty move. Integrity of EPL competition at stake as this illicit approach made mid-season and destabilized WFC. It now emerges that Silva spoke to some players about taking them with him. If so that is beyond the pale. Also at the mediation meeting in April Kenwright and his team stated that Everton were no longer looking to hire Silva. I think this is indicative of the lack of cohesion between Moshiri and his executives relating to both managerial and player appointments. I am sure Gino has good legal advice and can now understand why compensation for Silva has not been agreed. Finally Everton fans cite the number of managers that we have had but at 5 in just over 2 years they are fast catching us up!

This is very interesting. It would appear that we have considerable proof over the tapping up which would probably mean that Silva was in breach of his contract. The mediation by the Managers Association would also imply this.

Also interesting that some players form have dipped massively since the whole debacle. Poor show if true from Sliver

I wouldn’t call it petty at all. It’s absolutely the right thing to do. It will also benefit the other small clubs and also rans in the league and send a message that the bigger clubs (at least finically bigger) can’t bully their way to what they want.

In one year Moshiri has probably spent upwards of £30m on managers. The bloke is clueless, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Everton in financial meltdown within a few seasons

Yes I believe we will be heavily compensated. Be interesting to see how much. But is there really any difference in tapping up a player to a manager?
I'm sure this will also give us a much higher transfer fee for Richarlison, who I have absolutely no doubt will follow him.
They have a few players I wouldn't mind seeing at Watford next season..

It is quite frankly jaw dropping. And we get stick for how we deal with managers. What’s worse, having succession planning in place and financially viable contracts, or spunking money left right and centre on repeatedly poaching and then sacking managers?

This does smack of the bigger club thinking they have a right to the smaller clubs manager, and breaking the rules in the process. Assuming we have clear evidence we should take the for as much money as possible.

On the proof, they don't call them company phones for nothing! This is basically a complaint to the Premier League on an alleged violation of Premier League rules by Everton. It has nothing to do with employment law or breach of contract by Watford for terminating a 2 year contract after 6 months. The fact that the complaint was sent in last autumn, and that Everton entered into discussions to resolve it is telling. If Watford report that no resolution through discussion between the parties is possible. Then that is an invitation to the Premier League to formally investigate and adjuducate. That could take several weeks, and be disruptive to both clubs close seasons. Neither courses of action prevent Everton from appointing Silva. The fact that they wish to, now adds fuel to our complaint. We still need to resolve the termination of contract early issue. The fact that Silva has not litigated suggests that he does not want matters to go to court and wishes to negotiate with Watford. My hunch is Everton will pay us a sum not to be revealed (except in our accounts), Silva will drop his claims on us and wrap up the money in a signing on fee from Everton. Everton will write and apologise for any misunderstanding (without accepting liability) to both ourselves and the Premier League. Silva goes on to do well in his first year but is sacked in his second. A few of our players from this season may go to Everton, but we will get top dollar for them or they will be our loaners like Carrillo.
