Shame to see Soton not go down, I wonder how they will do next season under Hughes. “Interesting” that even if we had not picked up any points in the last 5 games we still would have been safe.

Took the curse to a new level. Relegated within hours without even playing. I like this new twist on the Manager of the Month award. Manager of the Month for May gets fired into space from a cannon?

Swansea are warm 1/3 favourites to drop.

Don't worry Southampton haters, Hughes will remove their soul from the inside and wreck their football at the same time. A Stoke supporting mate told me the dressing room at Stoke was in chaos before the season started. Seems he was right.

I don’t think that is so much hindsight as a logical comment that could have been made st the end of March

Well, that's the Saints safe, I guess Mark Hughes can keep up the pretense of never having been relegated, despite playing a big role in Stoke's relegation. Speaking of Stoke, they're much like us in terms of getting into good positions in games, you never know, now the pressure is off, they might even find their bottle and royally **** up Swansea's campaign

Come on Man City and Swansea!

I can see Man City sticking 6 past Southampton on the final day. Just need Swansea to score 4 at home to Stoke. It could happen. Highly unlikely but here’s hoping.

I find it much more likely that man city hit 10 than swansea get 4.

Looking at fixtures, Chelsea and Arsenal to do a number on Huddersfield and a mere 1-0 win for Swansea would see them survive on GD.

Never going to happen is it ? Swansea will probably beat stoke so HTFC will need a point against Chelsea or arsenal .

Having watched Swansea struggle against Southampton (I thought they would get a win or draw), I would not now be surprised to see Stoke get a win there. Often a relegated club pulls of a good performance. The pressure is all on Swansea and they buckled against the Saints. Of the two I prefer Southampton, but acknowledge they are stronger opponents and it would have been to our advantage to see Mark Hughes fail to collect his £1 million bonus.

Such an event would relegate Huddersfield assuming they pick up no further points

  17. Swansea were full of endeavour pressing everywhere and picking up 2nd balls but were way short of quality and never really looked like scoring.

    Going down.

Interesting to hear the players at West Brom, (who were responsible for them being relegated), saying that if Darren Moore is kept on as manager then they'll consider staying. Two things... Firstly something called a contract, and secondly who wants players that can switch it on and off depending if they like the manager? Scumbags.

Huddersfield have only been in the bottom 3 once all season ..

But might well get relegated now - has any team ever suffered such a fate before having never been in the relegation zone before the final day?

Yes I was close though. 4 already have got to 40 points (CP, NU, BHA and Muff) and WHU are likely to so I'm one short in my prediction of 6 of them getting to 40 points.

It may be Wenger’s last match but worth remembering they’ve lost every away match in the league this calendar year.

In that respect they’re actually the perfect opponents for any side who might need something from the match to stay up.

Not in the Prem, but Wycombe stayed up a few years ago and Bristol Rovers went down having been out of it all season on goal difference.

Didn't see the original post but rather than 'There is a pretty much indirect correlation between points won to be top and points achieved to come 18th' I would say it's wholly direct.

1140 points is the absolute maximum of combined points the league could produce in a year, final table would have everyone on 57 points. That's never going to happen of course but the more of those 1140 points at the top of the table it stands to reason there will be less at the bottom, hence fewer will be required to avoid the drop.

Indirect means two variables moving in the opposite direction (i.e. as one gets bigger, the other gets lower)

I would call that inverse but let's not get too hung up on the minutae.

  34. This is entirely coincidental, but what links the 5 clubs who will/may go down?
And what links the top 6 clubs?

So how long before the usual suspects start harping on about relegation for 2018/2019? Couple weeks into the transfer window?
