Rest was the best solution. I didn't run after Monday nights attempt until the half marathon this morning and clocked up a half marathon PB of 1:59:20. Not quick by others standards but quick for me. That's my 14th half and only my second sub 2 hour. Attention now turns to the MK 20 miler next Sunday.

So what has everyone got planned for 2017? So far I'm signed up for

    Brighton Marathon
    London Vitality 10k
    Great Grimsby 10k
    Great North Run

Might try squeeze a marathon in around October although I am now working towards a triathlon.

Only booked for Manchester Marathon in April. Depending on how I feel when I get back from my work trip I might do the Berko half next Sunday. Also at looking to do the MK Marathon in May. Would quite like another few halves as I'm starting to feel that's more my distance.

I ran the MK 20 miler yesterday and ran it about 6 minutes quicker than last year and managed to conquer the big b4stard hill at the end. The marathon is the 1st of May so I've got a way to go yet. I feel fit but these sort of distances are pushing me well out of my comfort zone, which is good but hard going.

Big :sign15: to Nascot for bossing the Berko half yesterday - a very difficult course.

Well done guys. I am doing the Adidas Silverstone half marathon this Sunday which is kind of 3 loops around the circuit. It's flat, concrete all the way so hoping for an OK time. That will be it for me racewise until MK marathon.

    Good luck Tom bola!
Should get a pretty fast time if it's flat!
I'm running the Vitality 1/2 Marathon on Sunday, finish in Wembley Stadium!
Never tried this on before so hoping for a good experience! *♀️*♀️*♀️

Cheers. Very pleased with 1:33:59 on a tough course and a PB as well.

Well done on the 20 miler, proper distance is that.

A little over a week to go until the MK marathon. I feel exhausted so I'm hoping I have enough left in me for the big day - after that I'm going to do nothing but sleep and eat Haribo for a week.

Anyone got any good advice for a location to watch the London Marathon? My brother's running it an I might need to pass him a bacon sarnie at some point along the route.

There are loads of places but if you do actually want to pass him something then don't go to the crowded areas, maybe a walk away from a tube stop, not sure if you are serious about a bacon sandwich but would defo not recommend that, defo bassets jelly babies, enjoy your day and good luck to your brother, what i would give to run it again, it as a wonderful day and a wonderful occasion for runners and supporters, no matter what time he does it is one hell of an achievement completing it.

All the very best to anyone who may be running London on Sunday.

Just 10 days now until MK for me. I am finding the tapering a bit hard and will miss not doing a long run this weekend. The excitement will start building next week.

There is a point just after the bridge crossing where you run towards Canary wharf & then back on the opposite side about 6 miles later so you could possibly see him twice without trying to use the tubes. I remember running one side of the road & heading the other way was the Elite African runners. It's the closest I've ever been to Kipsang, Mutai etc just a shame we were heading in different directions.

For some reason I signed up to the MK Marathon even though I only did Manchester 3 weeks ago. Got a PB of 3:22 there so probably going to have to take MK a bit easier.

    MK Marathon update...

Congratulations to LBH on completing his first marathon in a very respectable time. He says it's his first and last marathon but we'll see....;)

Also well done to tom bola. Good to see you at the finish line. You even managed to raise a smile! :)

Thanks mate. I'm feeling pretty knackered off the back of it but chuffed to have got it done. Congrats on the PB.

I did see a fellow 'orn in a Watford shirt at the end which was a welcome sight.

Bump. Have put my name in for London next year. Apparently less chance of me getting in that winning Euro millions, but still, training as if I will. Aiming to do my first 1/2 this autumn, although a 15 mile race across London, starting at the Olympic park, in October could be worth aiming for. Someone gave me a leaflet for it outside Paddington station last week.

Managing to keep up 3 short and one long run per week. Getting fatter than when I was idle though

Sorry for a SPC post but ran my first ever sub 90 minute half today at the Great North Run at my 5 attempt. Next event is Hull Marathon in 2 weeks.

Well done Cleehorn! What was the weather like up there today? Looked like good running weather as long as it wasn't raining to hard!
I'm out at the moment with poxy ankle ligament damage and its looking like I may need surgery! Right pain in the arse!

It was perfect to be fair, slight breeze but nothing too harsh like years gone by also not hot. All the best for the surgery & recovery

Incredible. In 16 HM's I've managed sub two only twice and both times by less than 30 seconds so I think sub 90 is a huge achievement. Well done.

I've just started to get back into running, after being a pretty good athlete in my early teenage years (until I discovered beer).

My best event was probably 800m, so I'm finding it harder to add distance than speed. My first 10k was sub 45mins, in the British 10k in London, on a horribly hot morning, which I was fairly pleased with.

Next I'm increasing speed and dropping distance (trying for a sub 22 minute 5k in a couple of months), another 10k in February time (I'll probably try for a sub 43) before a half later next year.

If I keep going, I think the aim will be a marathon in Summer 2019, and I'll be pleased with anything sub 4h.

I got a neck injury last year and had to give up recreational footy and basketball. Playing in games was the only way I could trick myself into running. God help me, I'm going to have to actually run FOR REALS now. I'm getting fat and doughy... goddammit

I guess I'll aim at doing a 5k every couple of weeks and work on my times.
I couldn't be less enthused actually.

Not strictly running but didn't want to start a new thread. Any one on here broken their 5th metatarsal before? I did mine two weeks ago and still in quite a bit of pain. Extremely frustrating as I can't really do anything or leave my house. Be interested to hear if anyone else has done it and how long they were out for?

I presume you've sought medical attention?

That being said I've broken a toe before and they can't do much for that. The cat was a lot harder than I gave it credit for. Next time I'll wear steel toecaps when I want to give it a kick.

I did my second 10k a few weeks ago, and did 40:46, so comfortably beat my target. This despite coming through a large crowd of slow runners at the beginning, as the race start was not staggered by target time. Without that, I reckon I'd have been very close to a sub 40.

I also did a sub 20 minute 5k in training - looks like that goal was a little too easy!

Yeah, I was at Barnet A&E for 7 hours..! I've got a walking boot, and I can walk in it, but not very far. It seemed to improve after a week, but not much since then!

I'm running the Vienna marathon on Sunday with my Mrs - forecast 24 degrees. About 16 degrees for the 9am start and rising...

Any tips for running in stupid heat?? Did a 20 miler a few weeks ago, which went ok.

I'm cacking myself about it now (and I may actually cack myself if the heat has its way).

  34. nascot

Don't go off at a crazy pace. Make sure you have plenty of water the day before and little and often during the race. If you feel shyte don't try and push through, walk for a bit and try and recover.

Oh, and try and enjoy it!

Cheers. I've got SiS Go Isotonic gels that I use (and used whilst training) - probably have one before and 5 over the course of the race.

Mate suggested drinking electrolyte drinks the day and morning before too, but I've not dabbled in that before. Is it worth it or just stick to what I've gone with until now?

I'd normally be well happy to see weather like this, but it's really worried me. Got tickets for Rapid Vienna v FK Admira at 4:30pm after the marathon - hope I'm up to it!
