Penalty all day long. Thank god VAR wasn't there to kill the moment. That's why I love football.

Unfortunately it was a pen. Was enjoying Real making a pigs ear of it.

Unusual to see anyone high profile even booked for dissent let along sent off - what did Buffon do?

Only surprise to me is that it took so long for Madrid to get a penalty...

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Almost identical to the Leicester one. Dive by the attacker and the theatrical point to the spot. I'm surprised Buffon didn't just end the **** there and then.

It was on the soft side, which tends to sum up all the dramatic last minute penalties Michael Oliver gives. It was so predictable. As I said on the other thread, the commentator says you can't write the script. Yeah, you can.

I think Buffon was sent off for getting hands on too.

Very soft. Oliver loves it doesn’t he?

Would he have given it at the other end?? Not so sure. Whether it was or wasn't, there's something deeply unlikeable about Oliver. Seems like he can't wait to be involved in something controversial, and the bigger the fixture, the more he loves it.

The guy just plays the occasion and loves the drama of it all. I’ve said it before and it’s occurred again.

He’s a dangerous official and should never be given these important games.

Now he’s done it on a massive stage, instead of just a play off semi final, I hope the world sees him for what he is.

Dangerous official? It was a definite pen.

    Also, Roma 3 Barcelona 0

    True enough.

He played a bigger part than Almoo, Cassetti & the others.

He’s what god would be like if he wore black shorts.

Btw, if Deeney has a need for attention (see other thread), maybe he should take up reffing.

It was debatable and extremely soft. But look how Oliver dramatically points to the spot. You can tell he loves the drama of it all. To send off Buffon, for telling him a few homes truths, in his last ever CL game. What a ****

Once the score went to 3-0, I said this referee will want to make a dramatic statement in the last minute. I didn't know which way he would go, but I felt confident he would do it. It's all about him and he HAS to be the main event. Once to score made the game an "event" it turned him on. The bigger the stage, the more likely he will do it. This is why he should never be allowed to officiate any game of significance.

The thing is, he fools everyone by running the game quite well. This allows him to have his moment, to make the big last minute call. He loves making big game changing decisions, and looks for the opportunity to do it.

That decision was spot on and completely in line with the laws of the game. Impending retirement doesn't give Buffon a free pass to be a prat. It'd be interesting to find out what Oliver sent him off for. I doubt it was simple swearing as he'll face that every week in England anyway.

Of course for there to be a decision to be made there has to be some sort of incident to occur no matter how soft it may have been - these guys just don't make things up out of thin air.

As for Buffon - well if you start pushing the ref around then your asking for trouble - and it shouldn't matter who you are.

Although I accept it seems to sometimes - otherwise Wayne Rooney would probably be sent off each week for dissent.

OK, fair comment, well it looked to be spot on. The body language and actions of Buffon were completely unprofessional and out of control. it also looked like he was shoving Oliver. And English referees aren't known to be on a hair trigger for dissent red cards, so if it was for something said I expect he crossed the line. It also had the desired effect of immediately stopping the rest of the mob.

Just re-watched it, looked like a penalty to me and a deserved red card.

Oliver couldn't wait to give the penalty just like he did with us. However, this time the decision was correct. Juventus made a defensive error by pushing out and Vasquez was all alone. I think he was waiting for the ball and made a meal of the contact, but it was a push from behind and a penalty.

  30. Relegation Certs

Buffon was sent off for grabbing, bumping and hounding the referee. Absolutely the correct decision.

You are REALLY hurting about Barcelona's utter humiliation and Madrid's triumph aren't you. It's a joy to witness.

I have never understood why it seems ok on the football pitch to run around screaming and trying to abuse a bloke just for doing his job - and its clear this was hardly a grave error of justice.

I mean if you did that in the local supermarket or doctors you'd be kicked out and probably arrested!

Guess you cannot write a letter of complaint afterwards or speak to the manager!

BTW reckon if that was Deeney/Okaka etc doing down like the Madrid guy did we'd all be calling for a penalty.

  32. Burnsy

He’s a complete and utter **** and overly dramatic. But his dramatics shouldn’t mask the fact that the penalty decision was correct. Given the period of the game it was given in, the red card really made no difference at all.
