That is bizarre. He does look very good though. Maybe he's trying to destabilise the player to help us with a move, knowing that Burnley wouldn't actually go for him (he doesn't really look like someone who they would typically sign). I'd suspect he'd cost another record fee for us though were we to try and get him, but he seems exactly what we need up top.

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Given he's not 6'10, I'm guessing this is just some weird mind games. Never seen the bloke play, but purely as a goalscorer he can't be any worse than what we have already so it's a yes from me

    So yeah, we definitely need:
    Left back
    Centre back
    Striker

    We possibly need:
A right back (depending on where Kiko plays)
A winger or two (depending on whether Deulofeu and/or Richarlison stick around)
Centre mid (assuming Doucoure leaves, we could do with at least a back-up for Chalobah/Clev)

And to think we had this all sorted last summer sigh

    Holebas...**** off already
Would be shedding no tears if Janmaat, Capoue, Okaka, Gray and most of the defence leave

To be fair Capoue is playing better under Gracia. The defence needs sorting out. Full backs have been an issue for a few years I think we could see Prodl and Cathcart play well together given a chance and with some good full backs either side of them.

  6. I would sell/bin all 3 of our strikers and buy 1 quality replacement. Use a couple of young prospects as squad players, Jakubiak fits the bill.

I would try to add Delefau to our wide players. Wouldn’t take option on Carrillo.

    Midfield is fine.

Cathcart and Kabasele are the only centre backs I’d keep. Sell/bin the rest. Buy 1 quality replacement. Add Wilmot and one or two young prospects.

Kiko and Janmaat at Right back is ok.

I’d Buy 1 quality left back. Keep Holebas as back up, sell/bin Zeegelar.

Whilst Jakubiak has done well on loan, look where he is playing. And he has done very very little when sent on loan in England. He’s nowhere near ready to be in our pool of strikers it seems. I agree with buying one decent striker and figuring out which ones to sell though. But if that quality striker gets injured, you want to rely on Jakubiak to score goals in the PL? Far too risky.

And that would be a good LB solution - but I think we all know that an unhappy, unused Holebas is probably more harmful than good to have around the place. I’d sell them both, and get a quality one in alongside a younger option like Rico Henry from Brentford and let him progress and try and take the shirt from said quality LB purchase.

  8. I did think that, but then I thought 'none of our current 3 are good enough anyway so is there really any downside to having a young pool of unproven back up strikers...' probably not... I mean can it worse than the dross we have now? Is Jakubiak actually worse than Gray?

  9. Burnsy

But replacing ‘dross’ with ‘likely dross’ isn’t really the answer surely - not long term anyway.

Talking of scouts. I want to see Lyon v Toulouse the other day. Not a particularly brilliant game and the Toulouse team were very similar to us. Two goals from defensive errors a lone striker that didn´t get any service and 2 wingers who couldn´t cross the ball to save there lives. Anyway they had a lad in midfield who I thought was superb name of Ibrahim Sangare a 20 year old from the Ivory Coast, very similar type of player to Doucoure , he was everywhere on the pitch everything went through him and when he had the ball the Lyon players couldn´t get the ball off him. One for the future and I think would be perfect for us. If anyone knows a scout please mention him.

You should have held up a 'Sangare, can I have your shirt' sign & reeled him in from there.

I wrote to our scout Romain Poirot and suggested him and he wrote back saying he has beem following Sangare for some time.

Burnley are offering £6m for Joe Bryan according to the Telegraph. I'd be very disappointed if we don't at least enquire this summer if he's available in that price range.

Is he really all that? Rumours are we've looked at Dalbert at inter. Hardly had a sniff this season. Classy left back.

Well we'll need two left backs in the summer so go for both! Dalbert is decent and although I don't expect us to be signing first eleven players from Inter, players like Chris Wood and Will Hughes have come up from the Championship and haven't looked out of place in this league. There's always a danger that squad players from some of the big boys don't turn out to be that great despite the club they're coming from, such as Zeegelaar.

I must admit I immediately turned to Google to check if we really had a scout called "poirot"
    Sorry for doubting you:)

Will we?!... I really don't see us spending decent money on two left backs who'd expect to be first choice. We should be signing one upgrade, and then we'd likely either keep Holebas as back-up, or top-up with either another cheap Zeegelaar-type punt, or a cheap, young Lokebakio-type punt (maybe Pervis back from his loan).

You can hardly compare Zeegelaar with Dalbert! Zeegelaar has never been as highly rated - Sporting paid €300k for him at the age of 25, while Inter paid €20mil for Dalbert at the age of 23. Dalbert was of course signed to be Inter's new long-term first choice LB, and it's a surprise it's not worked out there.

    Buy both!
    Buy someone.
Buy anyone that doesn't wander around the pitch all bleeding day and I quite like The Mad Greek!

Not sure why, but Udinese fans are piping up over Kevin Lasagna possibly coming here. Not seen or heard anything in the media but according to some fans on twitter they are worried about him joining us. They also seem to want the Pozzo’s out as we are now the No.1 club.

Wouldn’t mind us giving them Okaka plus £10mil-15mil for him.

On a side note, now we are safe from relegation we should leave the thread open for Udinese. Only 3 points from away from the relegation places with 3 games to go. They play Inter later on today.

  20. Lasagna is like a better version of Andre Gray, lots of pace + has some basic control of a ball and shooting

I wouldn't mind him in the squad

Here's a list of players who I think will be leaving Watford this summer.....it's a long one.

Ndong, Karnezis, Wague, Okaka, Zeegelaar, Kaboul, Carrillo, Britos, Gray, Oulare, Amrabat, Pantilimon, Zarate, Success, Sinclair

    Big money departures: Doucoure, Richarlison

I'd include Holebas, Janmaat and probably Prodl in that list too, but I don't think the club are going to sell these three this summer.

If we managed to get this many players off our books, then I think we'll have a serious amount of money to reinvest.

I'd estimate around £30m from the longer list, plus £80m for the big money sales. Around £110m in transfer fees received plus the £114m from the EPL. That's a whopping £224m income.

I feel you’re being a bit unfair suggesting we get rid of Ndong. During his stint with us he never once misplaced a pass. He never once missed a shot on goal. He never once misjudged a tackle. He was never cautioned or sent off. In fact he was actually a lucky omen to the club as we never lost or even failed to win any match he was involved in. Considering all this, I really feel he deserves to have his loan spell made permanent next season.

But he also didn't score an away goal. A sure fire sign of a wrong'un...

We won't get £80 million for Doucouré and Richarlison, and we won't get £30 million for the rest of them.

The only way we'd get anywhere near £30m for the longer part of your list is if Andre the Gray is sold for near what we paid for him and personally I think that's doubtful. That's providing he's sold at all.

    The others...

Ndong, Karnezis, Wague and Carrillo are on loan so no fees there.
    Okaka valued at €5m.
    Zeegelaar valued at €3.5m.
Kaboul has 1 year left on his contract & a horrendous injury record. Minimum fee if anything at all.
Britos contract comes to an end next month. Zero value.
    Oulare valued at €1.5m.
Amrabat has 1 year left on his contract. Valued at €3m but doubt we'll get that.
Pantilimon has 1 year left on his contract. Valued at €1.5m.
Zarate has 1 year left on his contract. Valued at €2m but doubt we'll get that.
    Success valued at €2.5m.
    Sinclair valued at €1.5m.

As SLB has already said, I also doubt £80m for Richarlison (value €20m) & Doucoure (€12m (seems low to me, €20m-€25m))

All values via transfermarkt.com but obviously bidding wars etc. means they could be worth more (or less if nobody wants the buggers!)

I think the likes of Sinclair, Success & Oulare will be loaned out rather than sold to try and milk as much from the 'potential' tag with the hope they have a very good season to either sell on top of that or get them into the following seasons squad here.

I agree with you that most of those you’ve listed are likely to depart this summer. The two I doubt will go are Kaboul (who would actually pay money for him?) and Richarlison; who we would want to sell valued on the assumption that his August-November performances reflect his true ability and that he’s capable of maturing and improving further. However any potential suitors would surely question whether the early season promise he showed was merely a flash in the pan given his performances since then.

I think we can get around £40m for Doucoure and another £20m-odd for the rest.

I think you are on point here. A big clear out. Focus on youth with one or two expensive but quality imports.
