A number of things have lead me to conclude that Pozzo could well be picking the team to some extent. We know of course that our 'head coaches' have limited power and can be disposed with and replaced at will. Yet with each change some suspect elements of our team selection remain constant. Miguel Britos. Every coach we have had has selected Britos at every opportunity despite the fact that he has never played well. Is he amazing on the training pitch? Is he just a really nice guy? Or is he Pozzo's favourite? I can see no footbally reason why he is always picked. There is a similar argument for Richarlison. He is Pozzo's project to make serious bank. So he needs him to play. I think almost all Watford fans can see he needs a rest, yet 2 head coaches this season have refused to drop him. Thoughts?
That's one thing I can categorically assure you on. Gino Pozzo does not interfere, in any way, with team selection. His only involvement is bringing players to the club in the first place. The rest is up to the head coach and his team.
That's not a number of things, let's hear the rest m8. Britos plays because it's useful to have a left footed centre back and despite what people think he's actually a good player in terms of reading the game. Sure he's getting less mobile and he loves to overhit a pass occasionally but I'd start him over Prodl any day of the week.
I think on the Richardson point if Gino had had any input on team selection ( which I doubt he does ) would it not have been better to have rested him for a couple of weeks and have him back to his best like the start of the season to get best prices and interest. I think playing him evey Week with no rest only weakens his value.
Weirdly, I’ve just made a post on the Liverpool thread with a similar theme, before seeing this thread. I think there’s a lot of interference and involvement from Gino Pozzo. If that was solely Gracia’s Decisions yesterday, he ain’t up to the task.
Would Pozzo really have instructed the manager to put two keepers on the bench against Man City last season?
Just about everything that has been said about Gino and everything that the coaches themselves have said about his leaving them alone, and everything Duxbury has said about how we use coaches, and everything Dowling used to say, and everything that has been said at the 'our place/your place' forums contradicts this point of view. That's not to mention the reasons of inflexibility given for Quique being allowed to break his contract, or Silva getting the sack for losing his motivation (why worry if Gino's picking the team?). Not saying you are wrong. Just think it is a little unlikely.
A number of reasons being 2. Richarlison is still probably one of our best wingers and creates chances. So 1 reason. And Britos is our only back up full back so with all the injuries what are the other options? Perhaps Richarlison as full back?!
