I was hoping that they would of realised this up to two seasons ago! It astounds me that we didn’t sign anyone in the last 2 transfer windows to play at the back! Break the bank if you bloody have to Gino......a couple of centre backs who can run and knock a pass forward would be a start! Why did we not attempt a 4-5-1 today to nullify there attack also astounds me!
I am comforting myself with the fact that Liverpool scored four against Man City, whose defence cost them quite a lot more than ours did. Not much I grant you but it's all I can muster.
Never likely to get much from Poolton but the attitude we started this game with, just like most of the games in the past couple of months, was ******* appalling, and why do our players always choose large stretches of the season to completely forget how to pass or move effectively? The amount of clearing out and reorganising we need in the summer is a bit daunting, really. Mostly because I'm fairly certain it won't happen to anything like the extent it needs to, and we'll bodge a couple of temporary solutions again instead.
Let’s be honest, there’s no need for deep analysis on this one. The leagues slowest and least mobile defence came up against one of the leagues / continent quickest and most mobile attacks. Was only going to end one way. One thing I hope Gracia takes from this is, Deeney in a front two or don’t play him at all. Completely ruins the football we play as everyone just looks to get it up to him and on the rare occasion he wins it, nobody is near him. Richarlison’s good form coincided with Gray’s extended run in the team. If Gray’s the answer then I’m not sure I want to know the question but there’s no way he’s a worse option to start games with. Just rubbish all round really. In the first 30 seconds, Holebas dribbled off the pitch and then it passed it straight out, and that was him mentally finished for the day. He'd just decided it wasn't going to be a good day for José and that was that. So he left Britos completely exposed against a fast, in-form striker and the game was done inside four minutes. His ambling back for the third goal and pass straight to Klopp were some of his other highlights. Poor selection from Gracia too - in a game where we're not going to have much of the ball and won't be able to pass it out from the back, choosing Deeney was a bad error. Van Dijk and Mario are faster and better in the air than him and he doesn't move out of the centre circle much. Okaka or Gray would've been better options, despite their limitations. Also, even teams like Newcastle can set up to make themselves hard to beat against the top teams before inevitably crumbling towards the end of a game. We are one of the few sides that actually can't make games difficult as our defenders are so poor individually. Pereyra played well.
Forget that one. Tbh - if we could have lasted till half time 1-0 you never know but that 2nd goal was only ever going to mean s dismal 2nd half. Peryara was Ok Move on - let’s get that next win then look upwards
I’ve analysed this game in great depth and conclude the following: Pool were half a yard faster in play and thinking per man. Pool are on average £15m more skilful per man. They had Salah. We had Britos. That is all.
It's a bit late for that... Gracia could have taken it from pretty much any game of ours over the last couple of years where Deeney has played as a lone front man.
"There are positives we can take, but we will try to do better next time." - Javi Gracia. Sounds like my therapist when she didn't fix my arachnophobia.
It's because Gray occupies defenders. He has his limitations but he makes intelligent runs, and a lot of our goals early season came from him pulling centre halves out of position and having their full backs cover, thus creating space out wide.
Its not even worth getting mad about 1/3rd of our squad are out of their depth I did get excited at one point when I thought Deeney was actually going to touch the ball...
I'm a fool, I thought the match was on tomorrow.....in a way I'm glad I missed the match, from reading all these very negative comments. We normally either play totally ace or totally **** against a big team, so no surprises there. I might watch MOTD tonight to see how bad we were. Wales beat France too, and I missed that too, oh well.
Sometimes you just need to hold your hands up and admit that we were beaten by a far, far superior side. Salah and several others players are just on another level at the moment. No point reading into this one at all. Have a great Saturday night all and don't let this result get you down. COYH!
I thought I was. I ran and ran to the far end and luckily I found the doors open. I was able to escape but I think there’s something strange still in there.
There's a way to lose though and this wasn't it. We've seen too many of these insipid resigned performances over the past 12 months where we ship multiple goals. It's not enough just to put it all down to the quality of the opposition when many of the goals come from unforced errors by our own players.
All been said before. Our defence is shocking. Piss poor performance again. Will we avoid relegation this season? The Pozzo system is meant to have scouts who turn out players not girl guides. Then again, the guides have a survival badge, let's put them in the team..
This game has made me consider coming out of retirement and sitting on the bog again during matches. Something needs to be done and I reckon that might be the solution. The result I produce will probably more solid than our back line.
Yes, certainly. Not that that's any great accomplishment given the state of the league, but this is not a realistic concern.
I had a flashback to last August when Britos made that 'tackle' against Brighton and I thought that would be the last time I would see him play for Watford. I'm going to stick to the beer tonight ...
I am not sure how we will get rid of some of the deadwood when then board keep giving the puddles of piss lengthy contract extensions?
The ironic thing is we may well win the next game 1-0 and then say what a great defensive performance it was and how well we took the chance. The changing emotions of a Watford supporter.
We've now conceded 123 goals since the start of last season. That's the worst out of the 17 clubs to play Premier League football throughout that time. If the defence isn't sorted out this summer I think we'll be in massive trouble this time next year.
The post-ironic thing is that we will lose our next game to B'Muff and Ake will score the winning goal, carefully slotting it between the legs of Britos...
We were awful, I actually dont think there was one positive to take from that performance. The back three were a total shambles, no organisation, no communication, no protection and Marriappa took every available opportunity to play someone on side. Holebas had an absolute stinker, if he wasnt passing a 5 yard ball out of play he was either leaving Britos isolated or getting caught out of position up the field before leisurely strolling back. As for the front three, did they ever get within 20 yards of each other? Not sure why Richie is getting singled out, he did better than most. Gracia needs to shoulder alot of the blame for that performance tonight. Not so much for getting the formation wrong to start with but for being so slow to change it - it was clear as day long before half time that the back 3 were struggling, why wait unit the 80th minute when were 4-0 down to change the shape? Even the two subs before that were poor. Its easy to look at the score and say Liverpool were top quality but truth is they werent. They didnt need to be with the way we defended. They had 4 shots in the first sixty minutes and scored 3 goals. Salah wont have an easier game in his career.
