I don't think it takes very much to represent Scotland... On a tangent, our 16 year-old Irish striker Ryan Cassidy is also sounding promising - top scorer of the Under-18s League (Southern League Division 2, but still), and also playing with the U-23s already: https://www.sportsjoe.ie/football/ryan-cassidy-watford-145740 Was signed in the summer from the same Dublin youth team that Robbie Brady came from.
Not sure about the B team, but the C team definitely still exists! On the idea of the Watford B team: Solid idea all round, has worked wonders for Brentford, here's hoping it'll do the same for us.
Would be nice if Hayden Mullins got the job, he seems to have done really well with the under 23s. Unless he just looks good because Kewell was so bad!?
The under 23s were 4-0 down at Bristol City and at half time have pulled it back to 4-4! Charles, Lewis and a couple from 16 year old Ryan Cassidy who has been a bit of a goal machine this season for the under 18s.
This Cassidy sounds like the real deal. Hat trick within 50mins of his u23 debut and top scorer in the u18 league, at 16. Get him signed up, don’t want another Sancho scenario.
We better make sure we get this Cassidy kid signed up to a long contract asap! Watford Academy/U23/B Team
Saw him score a couple the other week and they weren't bad goals - cool finish from an angle and then chipped the keeper from about 20 yards.
https://forum.ybig.ie/underage-squads-best-prospects_topic49854_page53.html Irish fans seem excited and another goal at Coventry as mentioned on that board with almost his first touch:
This lad Cassidy, seems to be ripping up trees both at u18 & U23 level. I know he is only 16 , but could he be worth a place on the bench in the 1st team and a possible 10/15 minute cameo on the pitch if we are struggling to score? Which lets face it is quite frequent these days. We also have a few other young strikers with a lot of potential, that could be given a chance to help us over the safety line, because the current 1st team strikers we have certainly don't seem capable of scoring the goals we will need!
Do we have recall clause on any of them though? For instance Jakubiak is banging them in up in Falkirk right now. I know it's only in Jockland, but he is scoring, which is more than our 1st team strikers are doing
I read an Irish article about this lad and according to the article there were numerous premier league clubs watching Cassidy before we signed him. He also comes from the impressive St Kevins Boys same youth team which is also where Burnley's Jeff Hendrick come from.
File under one that got away from us, then City. Good on him for moving for his own career chances. Bright kid. Jadon Sancho: Borussia Dortmund's ex-Man City winger living the 'dream' - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43147821
If he wanted first team PL football he never should have left Watford! That being said I'm glad that him and plenty of other young English players are heading abroad to make a name for themselves, it's something I flagged up almost 3 years ago (http://outsideoftheboot.com/2015/07/03/england-u21-euro-failing/) and will almost certainly guarantee them developing. Fingers crossed it continues.
Perhaps he felt that with our regular changing of managers, his development might be hampered? Just a thought, but wouldn't blame him if that's what he was thinking. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
Apparently 17 year old Lewis Gordon signed a pro contract last weekend. Set to feature tonight for the U23s again tonight as well. Guardian rated him as our most promising youth prospect.
Britos played for the first half only. WFC official twitter feed saying... "Half-time substitution for #watfordfc U23s. Miguel Britos is replaced by Max Ryan. 45 valuable minutes completed by the Uruguayan defender as he steps up his comeback from injury." ...so it just looks like minutes in his legs. Official match report also states it was a pre-planned substitution and Britos rarely got out of third gear. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/under-23s/under-23-report-watford-1-2-charlton-athletic
Excellent news. Two years to raise his profile, score loads of goals for the u23s, then let the contract run out and leave for a tribunal fee that'll probably be less than we paid for Jerome Sinclair.
A youth partnership has been agreed with Hendon FC. Seems to have come about from our regional scout coordinator John Creith, who is also Hendon's head of football development. http://www.hendonfc.net/News#6698 "We are delighted to announce that our youth set up signed a partnership agreement with Watford FC earlier this week. Our youth teams are delighted to be working with a Premiership club who have excellent community values. The partnership includes players leaving the Watford development programme and academy being given the chance to join Hendon Youth and if Watford sign a Hendon Youth player, an article will be placed in their matchday programme giving exposure to the club. There is much more to the partnership agreement, and Hendon Youth are proud to be an associate of the Watford FC academy and look forward to working together as we move ahead into the summer and next season."
