The Hammers - Was it that bad?

A couple (or more?) on the pitch. A big protest in front of the directors' box.

No input from the stewards at all in preventing the limited pitch invasion or trying to deal with it in the first instance. That seemed to be left to Mark Noble et al. Same for the police who may not have been present at all in the first instance. I heard last season that they couldn't operate at the London stadium because the stadium didn't lend itself to proper communications. Does that remain the same?

Directors' box protest? Bring it on. Luckily there's a bit of space for it there. Symptomatic of the probems inherent in owners simply regarding their purchase as a bit of business with nil regard for a club's traditions and the very different way in which the fanbase regard their own football club.

May we never go down that route (I think Gino does get that backed up by a wealth of evidence) or move away from the Vic. to some soul-less concrete bowl with a walk-in down the hard-shoulder of the M.25.

Having visited the London Stadium I have every sympathy for their fans. They've been ****** up the backside royally.

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Speaking to someone who was there, there were a lot of fights in the crowd that were not shown on TV. Which is why a bunch of kids ended up in the dugout.

Considering the general fan base, that's no surprise. The majority of them are utter ****s and deserve everything happening.

They can moan about being 'sold a dream', but there was very little complaint from them leaving Upton Park to the Soulless Stadium and as such, they should vote with their feet. Continuing to pour money into the club means the only ones laughing are the owners, who couldn't give a **** how their 'customers' feel about it.

Exactly this. They spent months crowing about it and now they're stuck. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

And we the taxpayers funded the transformation of a post-Olympic white elephant into a stadium not fit for football.

All that money West Ham got from Clive and me and they messed up royally

They were happy to boast about it when they thought there were ripping everyone else off. Not going to shed a tear for them now that reality has set in. They made their own bed and now they get to lie in it.

I think you can justify the board protest but the fighting was related to the pitch invasions.

Something has to change at West ham. I don't know what will fix it but it can't carry on like this

West Ham fans are ridiculously entitled. You are always going to get fans of big clubs that are entitled, and ex big clubs like Leeds as an example. But West Ham’s ‘success’ and period of being a big club was a lifetime ago. It wasn’t that long ago that they used to scrape around at the bottom of the Premier League and regularly get relegated. I think of all fans they are amongst the most deluded and entitled of any club. The stadium is ****, everybody but them could see it would be an absolute disaster, they should have had the foresight to do something about it before it happened.

Look up West Ham TV on You Tube. Most wear flat caps, look & talk like they're extras from Oliver Twist.

Let’s get this right. West Ham have never been a big club in the sense of regularly challenging for trophies like the current ‘big 6’. They have always had a strong and clearly defined regional (i.e. East London) fan base, unlike many big clubs, which is to their credit but they have only ever won the odd cup. They have often been in the bottom half of the table, usually due to a softness away from home, and so have sometimes been relegated. Finally of course, despite ‘winning the World Cup’ in ‘66, their high water mark was 3rd place with the Cottee/MacAvennie team in the 80s, just one notch below the mighty Hornets best!

If they go down, how many fans will be rattling around in their huge but crap stadium next season? Maybe they'll be wanting to groundshare with Orient on their journey downward to oblivion

Anyone know what "improvements" the Dildo brothers and Knicker Girl made at Brim? I'm presuming that they left being slightly less despised than they are now?

Running on the pitch/throwing coins and fans fighting between themselves is hardly going to attract new owners..

The fact they had to cancel protest due to threats made against one fans group against another says it all.

TBH Haven't they generally been a mid-table to bottom Premier league side - I guess its the "broken promises" they don't like.

Presume they were all quite cheery and happy after beating us the other week...

I can see West Ham doing a Coventry if they aren't careful - losing their big asset (the ground) for a quick buck and being left with a long tenancy agreement for a ground that is unsustainable. Think they sold Upton Park for £40 million, not that much in the scheme of football related things...

Despite their woes, the London Hammers got twice the attendance that Arsenal did this weekend.

    This is the dream scenario.

The Brady Bunch would have been thrilled when they pulled off their stunt in getting the ground for free.

The big assumption was that 25,000 extra Hammers fans would spontaneously generate.

That the cowed Cockney massive would simply turn regardless of the sterile stadium & relegation fodder footballers.

Hopefully those kids who had to refuge in the away team dugout will transfer their allegiances to some other team.

Plenty of room these days at The Library.

What's their run in like? I don't think they'll go down sadly. They thrashed us soundly and were better than us in every position. Surely will play that well again this season.

I agree, there should be some sort of points deduction, not so sure it should be 10 pts though?

Of all the teams down there these are the ones I most want to go down!

Disliked them ever since a couple of their fans were aggressive to me and the gf 20 years ago.

Their stadium is also completely soulless.

A horriblely dull place for a football match.

Way o.t.t. The protestors in front of the Director's box should be given a medal. I thought you were a socialist. But when it comes to a bit of 'street protest' it would appear that you're not.

It’s funny how it’s all turned out. They were all laughing when they thought they were getting a great deal at the tax payers expence.

Spam fans have always been bad losers, bad winners and just pretty nasty all round.

I hope they get what they deserve. Relegation suits them.

Strange how quiet Martin Samuals has been over it. Oh yes, it doesn’t count when it’s happening to the club you support.

The ICF at Millwall will be fun next season.

I *think* they are rent decreases written into the rental agreement if they are regelated from "The Greatest League in the World".
