Can't wait for the scenes next week when we beat Arsenal 3-0, Deeney scores a hat-trick (all from open play) and 'lowerrous' criticises Deeney as he 'hasn't scored a penalty in a while.'

Went to the game today with a friend from work, and his friend from Canada. Luckily we were all able to sit together as the annoying ST holders to my right clearly didn't fancy it in this weather. Anyway..

    - I thought we were average, and would actually have lost today if West Brom actually had players that could finish. We got off lucky defensively IMO, and need to sharpen up. Too much fannying around in our penalty box as well, just boot it out!
    - Dreadful final balls being played into the box. Have our players forgotten how to ping a half decent cross into the box? Seems like it.
    - Hats off to Gracia for not being afraid to switch it up tactically on 60/65 minutes. A change was sorely needed.
    - Okaka was excellent in the minutes he spent on the pitch. Excellent movement, hold up play and footwork. Such an asset to bring off the bench.
    - Delighted to see Will Hughes back. He is the player that above all others I have missed the mosst in recent months. His first touch, vision and passing is all just wonderful. Outside chance of getting on the plane to Russia? He is very, very good and am so pleased to have a player of his quality back in the side. Great pass for the goal.
    - Getting fed up with Richarlison and his petulance. Yes players should show frustration if they've had a poor game, but stamping the ground and throwing things on the ground are too much, and smack of someone that needs a gentle but firm talking to, a reminder of what he needs to do to regain form, and dropping to the bench for the next few games.
    - Mariappa excellent, a real surprise hero these last few games. Very impressed, and what a great servant he has been to this club.
    - Those party poppers in the Rookery.. Again? Really? Surely that impedes the view of those in the upper section of the stand?
    - Deeney looks to be working harder under Gracia. Better movement. On his form leading up to January it would have been very reasonable for the club to have considered any incoming bids for him, but now that he's ours until the summer and his form has improved, let's hope he continues his resurgance. I still think that 2 up top is the best formation for us though.
    - Very annoyed with Carillo's body language whilst being subbed off today. Trudging off at a snail's pace (when those on the side lines were asking him to hurry up), head down, no applauding the fans.. I'm sure he's a nice enough bloke, but I don't want him back at our club after this summer.
    - Vital 3 points. The manner in which we won wasn't great, but at this stage of the season it's not the most important thing.

Good observation. I was concerned about West Brom's corners before the game, but that fear was unfounded. I remember the panic we went through under Silva. It was ridiculous when I saw Gomes physically move players into position like chess pieces. Zonal marking just does not work, well not for Watford anyway.

I think West Brom only won one header from their 6 corners, and even that didn't cause us an issue. Big improvements.

@watfordfemale already has this senario covered. Deeney rushes over to the Arsenal bench, drops his shorts and grabs his massive cojones in both hands before shaking Wengers hand.

Obviously there's teamwork behind it but deeney being the only scorer in two games has literally got us six points

    Good goals not scrappy either

Love him or loathe him it's six points instead of two

    A few observations ...

Gracia has proved to be exactly what we needed . He’s got us well organised and hard to beat .its not exactly fantastic to watch , but we need to grind out results to make us safe .

I felt he brought on Okaka at just the right time as it looked as if West Brom wee building up some momentum just after half time. Great to see Hughes back and a great bit of determination and assist from him . Another great finish from Deeney he can still finish when he gets the chances .

    Defence were solid and well
Organised again though a couple more dodgy moments than vs Everton .

I understand what people are saying about Capoue . I think he’s been much better since Gracia cape in. Made some excellent interceptions today , but he does slow the play down and don’t realky see him staying in the side long term with the lines of chalobah and Cleverly to come back in .

I’ve come to the conclusion that Pereyra is much better on the left than playing as a no 10 . I can’t remember when he’s really influenced a game from that position . Richarlison continues to be ineffective , definitely needs a rest . I’d like to see Hughes behind Deeney vs Arsenal , with Pereyra on the left and Femenia on the right .

All in all a great feeling that we are virtually safe and the feeling that we should definitely pick up the remaining points we need .

But why would anyone loathe him? He is our fourth highest top scorer ever, has captained us to promotion and is one of our best ever players. This forum is weird.

I don't, I really like him and am glad he didn't go in January

He is never going to be the best player but he is not a detrimental player even on a bad day

If he didn't pick up needless red cards (temperament needs reigning in some times) he would be in my top three players this season

Very few loathe him, it’s just shorthand to distinguish those who won’t have any criticism of him at all and those who think he has not done himself justice over the past season and a half. Some of the criticism has been over the top, but it’s unarguable that - two excellent finishes in the past two games aside, he’s been a serious disappointment for some time. He has limitations, obviously, but he’s a lot better than he’s shown this season, even if he’s not always been played to his strengths.

I did see Barnes. I was about 7. lower rous Rookery end. Definetly winter as it was cold.

My first screen memory of “football” him
Running down the wing, ironically against Liverpool

7 ish so must have been ‘85 ish

He was a great player, latterly a twunt, but Richy has the potential to be a top 3 world player

Personally I'm not too worried about the quality of the last 2 games. To me the Gracia team is the one against Chelsea.

If you look at the last 2 teams we've played, Everton came here for a point and WBA needed a reaction after the Huddersfield debacle and fighting for their lives...we had to grind out the results...which is something we haven't been capable of since Joka.

Gracia has come in to stop the rot and he's done that to a certain extent, I think with all the players back and a pre-season under his belt, we could have a decent season.

Bloody hell, let’s not suck off Deeney too much, he’s had a decent couple of games and finally scored from open play. Oh and he managed to not get himself sent off. I think a few people on here are so desperate to get one over on the people that slag him off, their judgement is blinded.

Awful first half, brill from the second okaka came on. I'm going to start entering the ground on 50 mins, thE match day experience would improve considerably.

    Keeper MOTM, he's flipping ace.

I was booing Deeney loudly until he scuffed that shot in. But you can't argue with 2 in 2 so my ire has shifted to Richarlison. I'll be ironing my best booing slacks for the Arsenal game. He's DUNG
