Carrillo lives in his own little world sometimes. His game awareness is absolutely atrocious. I wouldn't pay a penny for him.

Not impressed at all by Rich's little tantrum after being subbed. Keeps running down blind alleys and giving the ball away. Not as good a player as we thought in my opinion

Time to drop him. Pereyra looked FAR better when pushed wider, like I stated at half time. We found so much more space in midfield with 2 up top.

On to Arsenal now. Who knows what could happen there....

Javia Gracia knows how to get results. This just helps to show what a fraud Silva was. Fully fit squad? Well you did you did ok, a couple of injuries? Absolutely clueless.

And as always I am a happy bunny after a win - any win. Another game without conceding. Soon we can start to look for the four and five goal thrillers we know are in the team ;)

At half time like many other armchair pundits I said put on Okaka to rough them up and Hughes for some skill and grit. And go to 442.

That Hughes pass to Deeney was football perfection, as was everything Deeney did when he got the ball. From the millisecond he received the pass you knew it was going in and that was safety

To repeat, that moment was the very second we are staying up. 36 points with 9 to play... and not only that but a decent, honest, sensible, clever coach and great owners

We can all sleep well tonight

We didn’t deserve to win that. Another dire performance but another 3 points on the board!

If we’d played anyone else in the league I think we’d have lost. Not hard to see why West Brom are going down, is it?

Okaka changed things again and offered a new dimension up front. Hughes didn’t take long to get back amongst it! Well taken goal by Deeney too, kept his head and finished cooly.

Doucoure not his usual self, unfortunately. Capoue was back to his usual self unfortunately.

Pereyra played better second half I think. Whether because he had more space wide left or because he was playing with his mate Okaka, as I’ve previously speculated.

Karnezis my motm. Didn’t have loads to do but he didn’t put a foot wrong and impresses me every time I see him.

It wasn't just the pass. It was his entire contribution.

He went for a ball he was third-best for, beat two WBA player for it despite the fact they were a combined 4 times the size of him, won the ball, walked between them, played a killer pass...as a sub coming back from injury.

  11. Pereyra is way better on the left, considering how sh1t Rich is at the moment I'd go Pereyra there.

Hughes is our best attacking mid.

Deeney can't play up top on his own, none of our strikers can, Okaka is the best of a bad lot if playing 1. Deeney effective as a 2, but that leaves us exposed in midfield.

Some hard thinking to be done over the summer.

That's us safe for another season now, 36 will be enough. A wonderful achievement regardless, but even more so this season given the shitshow behind the scenes brought about by our former head coach. Well done Gino for acting quickly and decisively and removing him when he did.

All the best to West Brom ahead of their years in the footballing wilderness. 1-0 to the football team.

Deeney ruining the weekends of his small cabal of haters on here twice in a row now. Scenes.

the skill in the premier league is grinding out the 1-0 ugly, horrible wins you don’t deserve and drawing the rest. I really like our new coach. No ego.

Didn’t go and was out but kept checking flash scores and so glad we won. Looking forward to hearing about it all from you lovely peeps.

Missed my guys in the Shoutbox today too. I heard Holebas went off injured near the end and the pass from Hughes was awesome. Another goal from Captain Cojones and a hard fought win. Arsenal next, it could be a free hit game but a draw there and Anfield would be amazing.

Thank you all who went and the people who helped clear the paths and pitch this morning to get the game on.

That first half was awful, awful football but a great win and safety virtually guaranteed.

Karzenis was great, unsure on his kicking but so much more reassuring.

Holebas excellent for the second game running, Janmaat not quite.

Mariappa MOTM for me. That block at the start was outstanding, as good as a goal.

Doucoure wasn't involved first half but was his usual self in the second.

Hughes is such a tidy footballer. Great first touch, has a picture in his head when he gets the ball and the weight of pass is nearly always flawless. Rare type for an English midfielder and so happy he plays for us. Once Cleverley returns we've got a really nice looking midfield.

Pereyra was awful first half but was a constant threat out wide in the second. Faded spectacularly towards the end though.

Richarlison really needs to sit out a few games. Nothing coming off for him at all.

Carrillo is a disgrace. Not much to comment on the performance but walking off the pitch like that? Appalling attitude.

Okaka changed the game once again but I actually don't think he should start. Much more useful in 30/40 minute bursts and if he's happy to accept then I don't see a problem?

Deeney comes alive with a partner next to him, it's like watching a different player. He even seems more interested when he know that someone's close to him! Great finish and absolutely buzzing for him hope his confidence in front of goal is back and he goes on a nice little run now.

Big props to Gracia for sorting out the defence. ANOTHER clean sheet and he must have won as many home games as Marco by now right? One more season of Premier League football in the bag and the pieces to build a really nice starting 11 slowly falling back into place. Hughes back, Femenia nearly, Cleverley & Chalobah to come. Shame about Gerard otherwise I'd really have fancied us to go on a great run to end the season!

Horrible game, but I didn't expect WBA to make it easy for us. For all the negatives surrounding them, they did at least make it very difficult for us to play out from the back.

Big praise for Okaka, Deeney and Hughes, and also Pereyra who I thought had a really good second half after coming in for some criticism recently. He still looks scared going into tackles, and I truly understand this having suffered a cruciate ligament injury myself, but as a pro with many years of his career left he will have to overcome this mental challenge. I'm sure he will, but for now it's a solid 90 minutes under his belt.

Richarlison may need a start on the bench to give him that kick, but I'm not sure such strong criticism is fair - he is still learning, still developing, and will get through this tough period. Being annoyed at coming off is infinitely better than showing no emotion whatsoever in my book.

We now have enough points to be looking firmly up the table, and I really hope the team push on for a strong top half finish. Here's to ugly 1-0 wins!

Why do we need to ‘learn’ to play two up front? We haven’t started with it once this season sinwhere is the evidence it works from the start of a game? The recent evidence says that we are good with one striker and then stretching them with two later in the game...

Rich is piss poor. Needs leaving out. Get the 25mil off Chelsea for him in the summer.

Hope to god we don’t buy Carrillo permanently.

Pereyra came to life when moved to the left, before that, contributed nowt

    I love will hughes

Well done Troy. Sublime finish again

This game was the prime example of why people think Capoue is lazy. Sure he may have stats about distance covered or something along those lines to back him up but at the end of the day he can be so slow on the ball at times. Today he was caught out 4/5 times just by dawdling on the ball/not looking before playing a pass. The game itself went exactly as I thought it would, won by a bit of brilliance from Hughes and a lovely timed run and finish by Troy. Brilliant 3 points and this should hopefully see us get over the finish line (and maybe finish in the top half!) This game and the Everton one were huge games to win and we've done just that. Thought Prodl and Mapps looked overall very solid and Karnezis was brilliant at times clutching the ball out of the air where Gomes would've certainly opted for a punch - relieves so much pressure and allows us to reset. Okaka again was a bit of a game changer, not to say he is a world beater and perhaps if he can't run for 90 minutes then bringing him on around the 50th min is the best plan. Aside from the defence and subs I thought everyone played particularly poorly, though Pereyra grew into the game somewhat. Not gonna feel 100% confident until we are mathematically safe but this was a big leap to that and 2 wins in a row, 2 clean sheets in a row cannot be argued with.

What an absolute pile of steaming horse sh*t that match was. One small chink of quality was Deeney's finish, otherwise it was more fun watching the West Brom fans or the first half fire in the advertising hoardings. Luckily, as against Everton, we were slightly less sh*t than them, (and they were really bad).

Has Capoue actually got a brain inside that head? Can Richarlison play unless it's over 10 degrees celcius? Can Pereyra keep getting any worse, (or bottle any more challenges).
Let's face it, we're now a long ball team and not particularly good at that either.

And the ref had a shocker.

Does anyone remember when Everton came sniffing around Silva in November and Garth Crooks said in one of his top quality team of the week sections, that Silva should take the job and we should appoint Pardew? As Garth thought he was a good manager and would suit us?

    LOL, absolute bell piece.

Its obvious now Capoue got a new contract this week, he would go back to being Capoue.

Sure it was done so we could get more for him in the summer.

Surprised you're so negative after that.

Wasn't much long ball in the second half at all, you've described the first half which is fair but the signs are promising IMO.

  28. Unplayable for 40 mins, definitely. 90 I'm not so sure. I think, paricularly after today, bringing him on second half is working nicely.

Front row rookery, if your going to bring your kids to a match have them back in their seat by second half kick off rather than standing behind the hoardings

Its not terrace football, you have a seat for a reason and no I don't feel bad moving your kids on, I enjoy it

    Also good atmosphere

It's horses for courses. Silva simply couldn't find a way to win ugly, and in the Prem I'd say 2/3 of the games require a bit of direct play to get a result.

Like last week, 70mins gone and you could tell going route one was the only way to break the deadlock. I'm glad Gracia is flexible enough to change things up.

We've dominated possession in every game under him so far, so I think the intent to play good football is there, it's just the hopeless form of our two wingers that is holding us back
