Heading over on a Friday with my mates this year as opposed to early Saturday morning so wondering if anyone has any suggestions for where to go out on a Friday night in Watford? Is there anywhere that does karaoke..?
Seems to be ladies night on the first friday of every month unfortunately, we are going over for the WBA game so the Friday is the 2nd March
This question can't really be answered without a clue about your age. So for example if you are a balding, hairy-eared fossil of advancing years you may well have the best time of your life at the Horns pub. If you are under 30 you might just feel like topping yourself after 20 minutes.
I once sat at a table next to John Motson there. Probably 1982. Different scene then, though it looks cracking now.
We are all 24. Not sure why you all don't seem to like Watford, this will be our 5th trip and we love it although only been on Saturday nights so far. If you think Watford is bad make sure you never come to Belfast for the nightlife... Sent from my G3311 using Tapatalk
Don't know anywhere that does Karaoke on a Friday night in watford, if you want live band that can't go wrong with Molly's, then onto reflex, the horns may be worth a visit but if you are all 24 then maybe Oceania is your best bet (never been there myself though) think it was paradise lost last time I went in there. Also make sure you all have Photo ID with you as a few of the bars won't let you in without scanning an ID in the evening. Hope you have a good evening.
A night out in Watford is dire these days. Bars are ****. Load of idiot kids everywhere. Bring back Taylors. Bodegas is ok. I think it prices out a lot of the cheap tw@s who go elsewhere. Malloys is not bad as the people are generally older and not tw@s. Usually a band and can go in to reflex after for a few classics. I'd generally avoid the town altogether though. Go to London or something.
Thanks for all the info! We won't be getting to our hotel until around 9ish so doubt we will bother with the hassle of going to London. Malloys sounds like it might be a good shout!
Since you were last here, they've invented these new fangled things called 'trains' which takes you all the way to Euston in 18 minutes. Crazy but true.
I think there's an element of "our town is ****" syndrome going on here. Everyone likes to knock where they come from but from an outsiders point of view ive enjoyed the few nights ive been out in Watford. It wasnt so long ago that Watford was voted the best place to go out surrounding the capital. I cant believe it's gone that far downhill in that time. Enjoy!
Yea the comments here have surprised me, I have much preferred my nights in Watford as opposed to those in London. The issue with Belfast is the laws surrounding alcohol sales which means most places close early and stop serving early!
Totally agree with you about a local town for a night out then have the hassle and the cost of going into London and especially getting back, especially if you only getting to Watford at 9pm, if you do ever get the chance and here for a Saturday 3pm, it maybe worth heading over to St Albans for a change if you have never been there, most nights out are about the people you are out with and what you make of it. You wont go far wrong with Malloys and Bodegas and it you are up for a late one, reflex, In the past, if you are in Malloys at closing time they sometimes let you into Reflex for nothing. Also I have never had a bad night out in Belfast, much better then Dublin IMHO, have a good evening, let us know how it goes.
Agree with the above about Belfast. But everyone feels differently about their home, it's a love hate thing.
I think that the problem with Watford is that it seems to only cater for youngsters. I was 18 in the mid 90s just as a lot of the bars were opening up, and it was a decent night out. After I got the wrong side of 30 I felt that the place was full of yobs and ******** behaviour was tolerated and the norm. I don't think that I have been into the town centre on a Friday or Saturday for about 5 years, I prefer to either venture into London or go to a good pub nearby. The beers on offer at a lot of pubs can be quite costly but very good, there are fewer pubs that can only offer just Carling and Fosters on tap and f***** Budweiser in bottles if lager is your poison.
I think familiarity breeds contempt. To visit, as a youngish man I'm sure it's ok. Plenty of places to get pissed and lots of aggro if you want it. Having endured 3-4 nights a week of Watford in my salad days, however, id rather be anywhere else.
It's more the clientele in Watford that puts people off. I find it is becoming a much younger crowd. Reflex is a good laugh.
Love a night in Oceana cheese room (and i'm almost 30) although that's much better on Saturdays than Fridays.
We are going for two nights but usually end up just going to a variety of places on the Saturday night but we have never actually made it to Oceana. For the Friday we were looking for somewhere a bit more chilled or with pool tables/darts board or something!
Oceana cheese room is essentially the same as Reflex, but swap the 80s music for 90s cheese, swap the 40-50 year woman for 20-30 year old women. They all head up to the cheese room to escape all the guys hitting on everything that moves downstairs but then that becomes the best place to try and pull, as all the guys wanna stay downstairs for the "better" music.
Just looked at the website and it looks decent so might check it out. While I'm at it, our flight home on the Sunday isn't usually until later so we always have a good few hours to kill on the Sunday... so far we are yet to find anything to do during that time so any suggestions?
Last time I tried they weren't booking tees anymore. But I'd recommend first thing on Sunday morning. It's half price and they do a decent bacon sarnie in the bar there.
I meant to check on queuing times. Last time I went a girl on the front desk told me I would wait for 40 minutes so I wished I'd have done the same.
If you fancy Pool on decent tables on Friday or Sunday morning then the Snooker Club Opposite Nandos (I think) is pretty good, they may make you join but for £10 membership I think you get two pints and an hours pool so maybe worth it, not sure if they still have this offer. The food in there is ok and the footy is on the big screen
Chanced my arm on Pryzm's Facebook page and they've put all four of us on guestlist which was nice of them, saves a few £ on the entry! Is Pryzm oceana by the way? It's what came up when I Googled oceana watford Sent from my G3311 using Tapatalk
