Silva's reign of terror has come to an end, hopefully this will mean we will see some improvements defensively on Saturday - it shouldn't be hard as some of the mistakes we made were quite basic. Hopefully the end of that horrendous zonal marking against opposition set pieces as well.

I'm optimistic that we can get a result here, hopefully the new Head Coach takes the Cups seriously. I'm going to go with 2-1 to Watford.

Tickets only £12 and coach £8, return train tickets were around the £30 mark late last week. 3250 sold as of yesterday. Great opportunity for those who have been struggling to get tickets for away matches for the big teams.

Tissues will be available on the gate for the Silva fan boys as well.

    Long live Gracia!

If Gravy only waves a damp flannel of interest to our defence it will be a marked improvement!
Saints looked quite sprightly on Sunday but apparently Spurs had the plague!

They will surely rest players for Brighton 4 days later so will not be their strongest team.

Will we put out a strong team? Feels like we should so we can work on any new formations with the main team in a match environment but we can't risk too many more injuries.

    A tough one.

Feels like I'm excited for football again. Not felt like this since....

    ... Mazzarri left!!!!!

4Cyclones and I will be attending this match on the occasion of his 8th birthday. That's two weeks running we'll have gone now.

Lad is turning out a bit of a Jonah though. Leicester was his third match attended, third straight comfortable defeat. He's seen 1 goal scored and 8 conceded. I asked him whether he thought we'd win at Southampton and he said he'd be happy if we scored a goal. How fortunate he is to have a Hornet father, eh?

In the morning before the match, we'll be visiting Hurst Castle in Milford which was built in Henry 8th's time on a gravel spit of land sticking out into the channel and less than a mile from the Isle of Wight. In WW2 they built it all up with coastal defences. We hope to chuck stones in the sea, look in rock pools and climb on rusty old anti-aircraft guns.

    The match should be fascinating.

A 'what we're left with' Watford XI versus a 'coulda, woulda, shoulda' Southampton XI including Boufal, Lemina and Gabiadini. In an alternative universe, those three are all lining up for us....

I've actually managed to get two tickets for my sister and me - thought I'd accidentally bought concession seats when I saw the tickets were only £12. Only my third match of the season; yet to see a victory (went to opening game against Liverpool and then Brighton away) so hoping it's third time lucky.

Anyone know what the parking situation is like at the ground? Trying to decide whether to drive or train it (coming from Hampshire). Thanks.

Hopefully they will have passed on the bugs ! But saints then don't !

Actually I'm really not interested in this game. Stoke will define our season given the importance of both the result and the "mood-in-the-camp". A defeat in THAT game would be disasterous.

Parking near the ground is difficult. Best bet is to use City centre car parks and then 20min walk.

That’s a lot more than I thought we would sell consider the apathy normally associated with the cup these days.
I still love the competition and it is one of only two realistic chances of winning something.
I would imaging Gracia will want to see his first eleven in a proper game before the transfer window shuts so hopefully a strong side

But we have Stoke 4 days later, so they may be thinking the same about our possible line-up.

Apparently there is a bus service from Southampton Central Station to the ground. Parking is an issue but trying to get out of Southampton in the car is awful. Took me till 11pm when went there for an evening game last season

I wish you'd go to more aways, your pre match entertainment is far more stimulating to read about than formations, starting elevens and other such nonsense.

Situation is different though. Their manager knows their team so can make a decision based on priorities.

Gracia & co need to make a decision of whether it's better to rest players or use the whole game to get the players used to the set up pre-stoke and indeed to help identify his best team.

I’m a bit weary of this one. They sized us up pretty well at Vicarage Road so know our basic formation etc.

Saying that this is a new era for us now and we can throw those Silva watch replicas in the bin and enjoy Saturday afternoon again. We’ll either win or force replay, either will be a good result based on past performances under Silva.

Did anyone go to the Dell? I did when we lost 2-0 there under GT in our Premier debut season. Fans so close to the pitch you could almost give the players a high five.

From the reports I've read, it seems like Gracia is very keen to create an instant rapport with the fans.

Throwing an FA Cup game would be hugely detrimental to that I reckon.

Full strength team and lots of heart. My head says a draw, but I have a gut feeling we might nick it and cost Pellegrino his job (ironically creating a job for Silva).

I went to the Dell with a group of mates in our Div. 1 debut season - first away game of the season on the Tuesday after beating Everton in the first game. We stood behind the goal amongst the Saints fans. We won 4-1 and I remember one Saints fan turning to us after the game and saying "when you were winning at half time we thought you would stop attacking, put up shop for the second half and give us a chance to attack. Instead you came out attacking just like the first half" or words to that effect.

That was the epitome of a GT team and performance.

I also went to the Dell 5 years later when we lost 0-1. That was the epitome of a Bassett team......

I'm not too sure you'll find too many rock pools; it's a gravel beach. A good walk and a castle (sort of).I think if you walk in the other direction you'll eventually come across a nudist beach. The children might find that more interesting, but it's probably the wrong time of year.

I would imagine (hope) that he will want to will his first game + get a look at the squad. Would also imagine he won’t be a stubborn **** and will play Deeney and Gray upfront ( wasn’t one of the final nails in silvas coffin his refusal to adapt to 4:4:2 )

I would hope the team will get behind him , put in a shift and we will see a comfortable win 3:1

Never know now Silva has gone perhaps some of our injuries will come back

I would use the West Quay Shopping car park. It is £5, undercover and safe. Ok, it is a good walk to the ground, but it is an easy route. Southampton is always awful to leave between 5pm - 7pm, but it should not take you too long to get out. I can only assume that the guy who said it took till 11pm after an evening game got lost?
Do not attempt to park near the ground. It is on a small industrial estate and no worth the risk of parking there.

The away terrace at the Dell offered the worst view at any ground I’ve ever been to. It was in a hole and there was literally only one spot from where you could see the whole pitch unobstructed by fences. However I’m proud to say I was there for the first leg 0-4 defeat in the League Cup before the famous 7-1 win in the second.

Was this when we lost 2-0 and were absolutely shambolic, the walk back to the car took about half an hour in the ******* rain and by the time I got out of the worst of the traffic I pulled in for a McDonald's. When I got to Basingstoke the M3 was closed and I think I eventually got home at around 1:30am.

    Edit: cracking away day.

I was there also. A Saints fan I worked with came with us and had a ticket in our end; then he managed to get a ticket in the Saints end for the return leg. As he later complained, his 'end' had lost 11-1!

Ive always parked the other side of the Itchin Bridge... its easy to get in and out of and back to the M27 before/after the game if you stay on that side. Park there, walk over the bridge to the ground, circa 20 mins.

Oakbank Road Car Park, SO19 9BA

Its only small (85 cars) but get there early and you'll probably be fine.

Were the fans at the Dell not so close to the pitch that somebody (Mark Hughes?) once scored a goal that wasn’t given because, it hit the advertising hoardings behind the net and bounced back out?

    Edit: this one

Guessing as Javi like to keep things tight, but have the flexibility to change formation during the match, I wouldn't be surprised if he lines up as
    Gomes
    Mapps, Prodil, Kabaselle, Holibas
    Janmaat, Doucs, Capoue, Pereyra
    Deeney, Gray

He can easily change to a 3 5 2 by dropping Mapps inside and using janmaat & Holibas as wing backs and pushing RP inside

Quietly confident that we'll win the replay

I was at that game too...the GT one, my biggest memory of it was the pig pen they put the away fans in. Absolutely hideous it was. Brighton (at the Goldstone) was a much better away day, very sunny too if I recall correctly.
