Just been reading the comments on the bbc article on Javis appointment . They’re quite amusing . The general consensus is that the Pozzos are a disgrace for lining up a new manager before sacking Silva . Obviously it’s much better to just sack him and hope to find a replacement at some point . Also apparently Javi is going to get sacked for sure in the summer regardless of how well he does . This would make very good material for a Dave Gorman ‘found poem ‘
This feels very much like when we appointed Beppe Saninno. Appointed solely to stop the rot, to bulk up the defence and stop us conceding. Forget attractive foodball, it’s all about boring wins and scrappy draws. Silva came across arrogant but is perceived one of the coaches for the future. Did the Everton saga really take its toll? The only thing I am sure of is our inability to keep a head coach longer than a year and how tedious it is becoming. This appointment was clearly in the pipeline weeks ago, and I suspect the Pozzos clearly began to realise that Gracia is the best we are able to attract.
Idiots , shows the difference between our owners and the likes of Everton , we are continually planning for all eventualities. Always stuck me as being odd to sack a amanager before you had a replacement lines up
I had to block Malteser (Felt like kicking a kitten in the face), that welcome to wfc message to Gracia did it, he isnt going to read this forum ffs. Anyway, never heard of this bloke, some pundits who know Spanish footy like him, lets see what happens, just glad the snake has gone.
I’m excited about this. Silva had lost the board, the fans, potentially the players and had run out of ideas. We couldn’t defend and we couldn’t score. Most damning for me was his lack of adaptability/ adventure when he kept losing. We were going nowhere but down with him in charge. A better defensive shape, Deeney and Gray hounding defenders and scrapping for chances in the box and Richarlison back on form and we can start picking up points again.
There is no need to make up a story. This never happened. Malaga wanted him to stay but Rubin Kazan triggered his release clause.
I'd imagine funds are there now to get some defence cover. No point wasting it on Silva as he wouldn't have known what to do with them anyway.
I reckon Gino has got two bags, with the names of any coach desperate to give the Prem a go and who will sell his mother for the chance. It sounds like this coach's name was pulled out of his 'We're in the ****' bag where the pre-prepared contract states 6 months. Once 'Coach, ref 0009/2018' has done his/her job and kept us up (utilising the goodwill bounce formula), Gino will delve into the 'We're ready for the Europa Cup' bag where the pre-prepared contract is for 7 months. I've come round to liking Gino's style: keep all options open, all of the time.
I have been following this all day, but not on TV. To my shame, until this very minute, I thought is name was Garcia. Not a good start! Things can only get better.
Can't wait as others have said better to do something over nothing and for whatever reason this does not feel like a snap decision
If we return to 2 up front I can't see Okaka being allowed to leave. He and Deeney fighting (no pun intended) for the no.9 role with Gray and Raycharleson competing for the no.8 role would be music to my ears (pun intended).
Two things that I’m disappointed about 1. Ridiculous way of spelling García. Similar to Hyacinth Bucket 2. To get this sorted so quickly means we’ve not had an opportunity to get linked to a load of names who we’ve never heard of or who have never heard of us. For these reasons I’m out
Well most seem to be happy with the appointment so no quarrel in that department. Best of luck to you Garcia and let’s hope your given a warm welcome at our first home game after we stuff saints in the cup and **** Stoke away. To soon?
We have QSF to thank as well. Gracia was being lined up to take over at Espanyol had he gone to Stoke but as we know he turned them down and then knocked Barcelona out the cup. Gino then made his move to get Gracia here and **** Sliva off out the door. Nearly two weeks till we play Stoke and new signings will be imminent once he’s made his squad assessment. Good luck Javi Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yeah. The speed of the appointment suggests even if we'd won he was off and Gracia was already incoming.
Why is 2 up top suddenly the messiah of footballing solutions for WFC? Barely anybody plays two up top in the EPL , but just because we had a couple of halves where Deeney and Gray looked marginally less sh1t playing together than they usually do , it’s suddenly the magical solution to all our problems .
Have to agree with your relatively upbeat assessment based on limited information about Gracia. We should have smelt a rat early doors regarding Silva's judgement when he said he wanted to keep Amrabat. As for Malteser in order to stay cheerful he needs to stop reading that unprecedented vitriol about our club's owners printed in the Daily Mail. The media clearly have an unremitting agenda against WFC which was completely exposed today. Silva was given the role of Mother Theresa and the Pozzos a reincarnation of the Borgias. It really is a joke. Sacking managers is fairly common nowadays but clearly we are the masters. Most fans could see the problems and the attitude of Silva and why he had to go. Still think he is a talented coach but he showed a total lack of respect for all of us after less than 10 matches. Relieved rather than happy is my reaction.
I think me and you were fighting a losing battle in defending him haha! I must say I changed my tune as soon as I read the statement though. It's best he's gone under the circumstances. We can always wonder what might have been. As for the new guy? I'm somewhere in-between Malts and HB1's opinions. First off I will admit I find it underwhelming and think it is a risk. His CV doesn't make for overly impressive reading and people are stating that he did well to get Malaga to 8th and 9th in successive seasons - as I understand La Liga, outside of 3 or 4 teams, there isn't really much to worry about so I'm not sure how much of an achievement this is. I am open to be told different by someone of better Spanish football knowledge though. But on the plus side, I am heartened to hear that he is a pragmatic coach who works with what he has and can get a decent defensive tune out of his teams. Sounds ideal to me to if he can translate that over to us. I think its a gamble. But we had to act quickly. And I'm not sure who else we could have got in the circumstances. I just really want there to come a time where this club becomes stable and builds a squad and ethos over a few years and not just 6-12 months. Maybe I'm asking too much but I hope not. There will be no further criticisms of this appointment from me however and I will fall in line and give him my full support as a fan. I hope he deserves it more than Silva ever did. COYH.
I hope you are right. But just don't forget about the rogue nature of our squad over the last couple of years. Theres a good few players I can think of who will be sulking about this and we don't as yet have the numbers in the squad to be dealing with that. Hopefully that changes though. The evidence says teams get a bounce from a new manager. It's not a guarantee though which you seem to be suggesting?
