He's slimmer than most of us but only because I've been getting to Greggs before he can clear it out the last few months!!

About £100 would do that in these tinpot illiquid markets.

Actually my knowledge is poor here, is there great rivalry there? Thought it was more Brum v Villa and WBA v Wolves but suppose they are all close enough to have 4 way mutual hate.

None of those 3 were fans of us or the scum? TD would surely only want to play for Brum, not wolves, WBA or villa in that area ?

I'm guessing it's the same kind of rivalry that Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham have. Of course, Spurs and Arsenal hate each other the most out the four; but there would definitely be some rivalry between Spurs and Chelsea

Spot on. WBA deserve to be where they are, allowing Pulis to take them in a slow but ever downward spiral towards the Championship. The squad is solid but essentially lacks creativity and quality. Investment has been minimal. They are now pleading poverty and hawking Evans around. Can't see Deeney going this window as Newcastle have no funds and nobody seems to be making actual bids. We still need another striker with Okaka certain to go and Sinclair likely going out on loan. Hope it's a player in form - don't mind if from lower leagues or Europe.

We would have lost today if he didn't play. As it looks more likely we'll be in a relegation scrap, I'd say we definitely need Deeney.

If Troy can step up as club captain and galvanise the squad then fair enough. Even if that is as an impact sub. Trouble is it's taken him til January to find fitness and form. That's not setting the standard for the rest of them is it. Winning headers is part of his game. Screaming at full backs too lazy to track back so they keep discipline. That's a captains role.

I don't really understand why yesterday has caused people to change their opinion so much. The situation yesterday was completely suited to him. Saints have a pretty timid defence and with us 0-2 down he had little to lose by putting himself about. Just like in the Arsenal game he won lots in the air because the opposition didn't know how to handle him. Plenty of defenders have had him in their back pocket this season. Ultimately, it was just effective but bog standard percentage football - his assist aside very little was well aimed to a teammate. A nice contrast to our couldn't care less first half, nothing more. Plus he didn't have one shot in 45 minutes.

At the moment yesterday was a great audition for the 'heart on his sleeve' super sub role. Nothing more.

If by people you mean me, it's because when he came on he changed the whole dynamic of the game, he brought a bit of steel, a bit of passion and a bit of leadership.
He also demonstrated the advantages of playing two up top and I think given time he and Andre could develop into a decent pairing.
Those are my reasons, for changing my opinion, if you don't want to change yours then that is your perogative.

One decent sub appearance and a year of ill discipline, lack of performance and seemingly ever growing arrogance is forgotten.

I'd love to see the Deeney of three years ago suddenly make a permanent comeback, but I think he's long gone, and yesterday does very little to change that.

Talking about ill discipline - there was a moment yesterday where he made the most ridiculous sliding tackle from behind chasing down one of their midfielders, who was playing the ball out after a Watford attack broke down. It was in the middle of that angry stint the team went through after about 75 minutes, as they seemed to collectively feel the game was slipping away. The only luck was he missed the Saints player completely or it would have probably been another red card, as it looked no different to the one verses Huddersfield.

The alternatives are not getting bought so it looks like he's staying. Hopefully he will step up now in influence as a captain. I'm not convinced playing long ball with two up top will be Silvas plan a though. Its only his panic plan at the moment.

UEA makes a good point - Deeney has shown that he's only really effective at this level when playing in a front 2 and the onus is on us to attack, so he can just hang around the box and knock balls on. The fact of the matter is that at this level we can not afford to play 2 up top away from home - no teams really do at this level and we'd get trounced - and Deeney's lack of mobility makes him useless as a lone front man. At home, Deeney still isn't ideal as a lone front man, unless we're playing against teams setting out to park the bus (which are likely to only be a few relegation scrappers per season). So really, there are very few occasions when he is useful, and given his general fitness those situations are only going to get fewer. We still need a striker who can lead the line who is better than what we currently have.

If he's happy to just be an impact sub then maybe there's no harm in keeping him, but given his wages if any serious offers come in for him it'd still be tempting.
