I think a lot of people said that Silva was never the right man for the job at Everton, but I don’t think anybody expected it to be demonstrated so quickly!

We’ve let in 20 goals at home this season, yes 20, that is the most in the entire league. We’ve also only won 2 games at home, that didn’t matter as we had decent away form but that’s disappeared now, and in fact we’ve lost 7 of the last 10 games - relegation form. We’ve had a lot of injuries which has played a big part, but with the position Everton were in Silva would’ve been the worst manager to take over based on the state of our defence.

At times we have played some scintillating football, but at times we’ve also played some atrocious stuff too, with the latest game against Huddersfield being an absolute embarrassment and probably amongst the worst performances from a Watford team in recent memory.

Allardyce gets results and results are entertaining. Silva has shown himself to be a talented yet very inexperienced manager, definitely not the type of manager you needed at the time you were after him.

I'm pretty sure you didn't like QSF or Mazzarri either? In fact, I'm not sure if I've ever seen you say anything positive about Watford?

I salute your football insight and perception....it looks like you are spot on with your assessment of Dyche and his Burnley team! We do seem to be winning 1-0 or drawing 0-0 frequently like you said in the post above - we have beaten Watford and Stoke by your 1-0 scoreline and drawn 0-0 at Brighton. Did you profit from this ability to predict results so accurately? I hope so.

Mind, you would have been incorrect about the Burnley-Watford scoreline had the referee not controversially disallowed two Burnley "goals" in the second half.

As for your opinion about who would replace Dyche, you mention Pulis and Hughes but it's a bit hypothetical as SD is still the Burnley manager.

Well if my Aunty had boll@cks she’d be my Uncle. You’d only have to scour this forum for 5 minutes to find a lot more ifs, buts, and maybes concerning Watford, if all the ifs buts and maybes went our way we’d be top of the league etc etc etc.

The fact is when I made my original post you were boring everybody to death with 1-0 or 0-0 scorlines, and you've continued to do the same thing ever since.

The facts are take Dyche out of the equation, or if you start conceding a goal a game and you’ll sink without trace. For what it’s worth I think what Dyche has achieved is highly commendable, but it is what it is.

It’s nice you show an interest in my posts. I thank you for that.
In reply to your point, not all my posts are negative. I don’t think I’ve ever slagged off who I consider a good player/manager. I generally see things a tad quicker than other supporters. In recent seasons I’ve probably been the first to post negative comments about Amrabat, Capoue and Holebas, whilst the majority were raving about them. I think I been proved right with them three. As for Silva, I’ve been querying his coaching methods since very early on in the season, long before Everton came sniffing. If Silva turns it round an we finish top half, I’ll hold my hands up and admit I’ve been wrong about him, personally, I don’t see this as a blip, I genuinely believe he ain’t that special.
BTW, I did like QSF, the only reason it went **** up in the end was of what was going on between him and Gino. As a tactician, he’s miles ahead of both Walt and Silva

I generally see things a tad quicker than Vic. I realised early on that Florrie's coaching was inflexible and the results tedious.

He's going to make mistakes and there will be rough patches but at the end of the day Silva is a very promising coach and is still in the early stages of his career. Watford as a club are a very promising prospect and, like Silva, will have some rough patches also.

He has been a manager since 2011. His record before coming to England was 123 wins in 217 games - a very impressive 57%
In England his record is 14 wins in 41 games - a not so impressive 34%
The jury has to be out on whether he can adapt to the Premier league. I am hopeful he can and would hate to see us judge him too quickly. I did not see too many people on here crying out to take the Everton money - so we are judging him on about ten - albeit very poor results. Give him a chance - we need a decent striker more than another new manager.
It should be made against the law to say sack Silva unless you propose a better alternative - who would come to Watford ;)

Ahhh come on. I enjoy reading most of your efforts on here. And our little back-and-forth about Troy and the Esso garage was good fun. Everyone on here has the right to their own opinions and to express them. But you’ve put out quite a long post here that basically reads as ‘I’m just brighter than you lot. And 99% of what I’ve said is true. And my own personal opinion of history is what backs that up.’ Dare I say, that if Silva does turn out to be successful, rather than hold your hands up, you’ll do what probably the vast majority of us would do is let your claims be buried under a seasons worth of other posts and claim that you never said it or spin the fact that you did say it to be some sort of positive. We’ve all done it.

Anyway, I’ve just bumped into Olivier Giroud’s tailor at Esso on Holloway Road....

One of Silva's earliest decisions that raised eyebrows was when he decided to "take the game" to Man City. I watched the Geordies last night take the opposite view and play 10 fullbacks and a goalie - the weird thing is when didn't look that bad when they "hammered" us 6-1 (two dodgy goals fairy 'nuff) but last night Newcastle looked really awful...

I think most people believe that Gino has to either bring in reinforcements or remove Silva.
Whilst the actions of your club have clearly disrupted our season,Silva and his agent's handling of this episode has been utterly dismal and will act as a portent for future employers.
Very few would shed a tear if he was replaced.

Got to say this is for me our most worrying time since we returned to the premier league. So sign of Silva organising us so more difficult to beat, a crap front line, a porous defence , no prospect of any if our injured players returning soon or us signing any players any time soon. Very tough run in at end of season so if upturn in picking up points doesn't start now we are going down.

    So what's the problem been?

Is it that Everton wanting him and the way he and his agent handled it resulted in everyone losing faith etc?

Is it that Silva himself "downed tools" to a degree after the whole episode?

If he did still want to come here in the summer, he's damaged his own reputation and I don't think there's any certainty we'd now go back in for him, even if he is a free agent now

He's clearly thrown his toys out because we wouldn't let him talk to you. His attitude has been poor since then and some of his team selections have been highly questionable.

He hasn't been able to motivate the players and the performances have gone from amazing to abject.

As has been said before, with hindsight we should have taken Moshiri's money in November, but with our league position and performances back then, I can understand why we didn't.

The rot had set in, so it was the right decision...much to my chagrin as I wanted to him to fulfill the early season promise.

I think the only crumb of comfort about not taking the money on offer for Silva when he was in demand is that it has proven Watford won't be bullied/persuaded/coaxed etc to release somebody that they don't want to lose.

Had we have taken the money then, it would have alerted other clubs to the fact that eventually we'll sell/release club assets despite it not being in our best interests. Should the next guy in charge (or the one after, or the one after that.....) turn out to be the bees knees - other clubs that come sniffing around will know that they won't get their man easily, or at all. The same goes for the inevitable bids for our best players in the summer.

A very rare example of a club not actually "having a price" - even if in the end, this time we perhaps should have done. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Absolutely right. It's a statement of intent. Watford cannot be bullied. They had to turn down Everton's advances because it would have destabilised the club. Players would have wanted to follow him out of the door a well. We'd have been under a lot of pressure in this window to keep our players as I'm sure he'd have come back to take a few.

It was always a possible scenario that the Everton approach would destabilise the club anyway, and this is how it unfortunately turned out. The club was in a no win position, but took the best path available to them. They've taken a £15m hit, but that's superficial, as the loss of reputation would have been greater.

I'd have been fine with that. Despite the fact that until Everton stuck their oar in I was enjoying football again for the first time since promotion, I wanted him out of the door as soon as he refused to commit, and I called the subsequent crash in form at the time.

Not being smug. I really didn't want to be right about that, and actually never stopped hoping Silva would prove me wrong.

Anyway, it's time to get behind Mr Gracia now. Slimy Marco is just another name in the WFC history book.
