Strange game, we didn't even play that well but could easily have won 5-0. I was surprised how open they were, we were allowed to run through them at will, particularly down the flanks.

Shows how good the squad (and Silva) is that we can win 3-0 away without getting out of second gear and with below par performances from our two best players this season, Doucouré (although he did improve after the break) and Richarlison.

Also, Newcastle are dreadful, we've played some bad teams this season but they're right up there (down there?)

I think RC would bring some much needed vigour to that rather stodgy column.

What was the "knock" Britos picked up - I missed the first 10 mins?

In regards to Gray, I never expected him to be great technically when we signed him up, I thought he'd be quick and could finish and that's it.

He's not as quick as I thought (admittedly due to highlights & FIFA stats) and he can't finish as perfectly demonstrated today.

    Really disappointing.

Thanks Luther Basset - in my excitement I made a mistake!

Here is the correct info - joint best start only :(

I guess I would take second at the end of the year though...

Zeegelaar is very good. I like Holebas, but Zeegelaar is a very obvious upgrade. Kabasele is probably the most underrated player in our squad. The best defender we have by an absolute mile. Brilliant from him once again today. Looking back, it's incredible that some wanted Gomes to be dropped earlier in the season. He looks so assured and confident with everything he does. Absolute legend.

I thought Gray's off the ball play was great today. For someone who gets so much stick for getting caught offside he timed his runs brilliantly today. He really could do with cutting out the shushing celebrations directed at his own fans when he scores though, especially when he's missing one-on-ones whilst hitting the ball with the sort of power and technique you see from the kids during the half time penalty shootouts. Hopefully we can get in a pacy striker in January to give him a bit of competition. There's a lad banging them in for Derby at the moment who looks pretty useful...

Agreed. I've been one of those calling for fans to give him time, but today.... Geez! Ok he is strong and holds the ball up well, but dear god for a striker he is awful in front of goal.

Confidence maybe? You've gotta hope so. I don't blame Richarlison for not passing to him after the first miss.

Yes, you know there's a problem when you see a player look up, spot Gray in space as the only passing option, and then decide to go it alone instead. I honestly can't disagree with Rich considering Gray's shooting right now... even if you ignore this game, just look at his "assist" for Hughes last week!

This result hasn't gone down well with Everton fans, some of whom want us relegated for some reason.

One exeptional piece of laser-guided insight particularly caught my eye on their Marco Silva thread (nearly 400 pages).

"Watford are only doing well cos they have signed some good players."

Just a mad thought, but do you reckon this applies to other teams, like Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid? He might really be on to something.

    I think that's unfair assessment.

The Fluminense supporter who came on here when we signed him said he had a tendency to be greedy with players in a better position.

Gray’s finishing and control is terrible but I’d still rather have his pace and movement than Deeney standing static waving his arms in the air and not being in positions to fluff chances. Not great options!

Given the choice between forming my own opinion and using the opinion of someone who I don't know from Adam, I'm going to go with my own.

Fact is Rich clearly looked up, saw Gray in space, and then decided to go for goal himself.

My feeling is if Rich was that selfish he wouldn't even have looked up in the first place. You look up because you're looking to make a pass. There's a reason Rich didn't make that pass and I think we can all agree it certainly wasn't down to the only option he had being badly positioned.

That was not great today - Newcastle seemed to nullify a few e.g. Doucoure. Gray is not good and Richarlison had a poor day. A laboured 3-0 against what is basically a good championship team. We won’t win many away from home playing like that.

Having said that we won playing poorly and that is a good sign.

Shows the gulf in class - would you swap any of their 11 for ours - no. Maybe a few on today’s performance but on a normal day never. For their sake I hope their new owners are prepared to spend - they must be £150 million behind in squad strength. When you see us bring Pererya on as a sub you sometimes have to pinch yourself thinking this is little old Watford

3 points is all that counts.

We've also played 13 games? After 13 games in 82 we had the exact same record we have now.. W6 D3 L4.. and we were 6th in the table.
*Sorry i see the table has been corrected above now*

    So...

We’ve already now scored as many away goals in the league as we did all of last season.

And this led by a Head Coach who failed to win at all on the road in his half a season at Hull.

We’ve actually led in all our away matches in the league this season apart from one (at Brom).

We kept up our proud record of scoring two goals in every away match.

Hughes has scored in consecutive games for the first time in his career.

Richarlison has now either scored or assisted in 7 of his last eight matches.

No player in the entire PL has scored or assisted more times on the road than our Brazilian.

Gomes has now kept three successive clean sheets, as he hadn’t conceded at Everton prior to his injury.

Today was our 4th consecutive win over Newcastle.

Eh? Tough fixture? Newcastle? Newcastle on a 3 match losing streak?

We need to be battering this type of dross and we quite rightly did. Never mind this faux-respect for **** opponents. They are relegation fodder for a good reason.

Seriously, games don't get easier than Newcastle.

  26. Arakel

That's not how it works, though.

When we play someone on a losing streak, it's bad time to play them because they'll be super motivated to beat us and injured animals are more dangerous.

But if we're on a losing streak, it's a good time to play us because our confidence is shot and the players can't do the simplest things.

Newcastle are a terrible team we could have won that by 5 or 6 and to be fair we didn't even play that well. I was really surprised with how easy they were to go through especially down their right hand side as I thought that they may target Richarlison as our danger man. Marvin Zeegelaar looks a decent player after all. Happy for Gray to get a goal but he really should have had more.

Actually Shearer was waxing lyrical on 5Live about how good we were. He said that we were as good as Newcastle were bad and that we could have won 6-0. I have been out this afternoon so this was my only insight, apart from the score, about the match. I was surprised to then come on here and read that people think we played poorly. Certainly not what the "pundits" were saying.

Great win, we look the real deal.

I knew Gray would score today but I don’t know what his celebration was all about. We’ve been very patient with him and haven’t given him any grief whatsoever but he puts his hands behind his ears to our fans? Granted he put away a 2 yard tap in but he also fluffed 2 one on ones which was League 2 standard. For a striker you paid £18.5m for you’d expect humble to at least score one of those.

And? Showing a bit of decency in saying "thanks" to someone offering feedback on a player I haven't seen play doesn't mean I need to take their opinion as gospel, especially after I've had time to form my own opinion.

Given that his opinion as stated is objectively wrong ("never pass the ball" and yet somehow has 3 assists), that's strange hill to want to die on.
