Watford FC is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis on a season-long loan from Udinese. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/official-karnezis-signs
There’s no middle ground when it comes to us and keepers. They either come here, and reinvigorate their career, or they turn to absolute dog*****.
Lack of playing time and his confidence has obviously taken a knock since Sunday! So, he is now not at the top of his game. He was bound to have a shaky performance if he’s not that head strong, Shame really cause I was hoping he was the one that could have stepped up and been a possible long term successor to Gomes! how can he be so useless? I read an interview with a respected italian manager (cant remember who, but I'd heard of him) and he said he was one of the best keepers in serie A. He is complete and utter terd.
I love the way he springs back up and goes sprinting after the ball as though that will distract the ref from giving the world's most clear cut penalty.
Reading these earlier posts, it's safe to say that he's improved significantly since his baptism of fire at Goodison. Unless there's another howler in the pipeline (and I hope I haven't cursed him now), it would appear that Gomes has a job on his hands to get the shirt back. Considering West Brom's strength at corners, he did remarkably well (along with the defence) to negate their threat. I thought this catch in injury time was excellent, and certainly wasn't routine:
Strange that we allowed Burke to stand right next to and potentially impede Karnezis there, I wonder if that’s some sort of tactic?
Haha! I'm still a big fan of Gomes, but the point here was that he seems to punch the ball more often than what I've seen from Karnezis so far. Just pleased that we seem to currently have two decent keepers, plus we have that Swedish lad next season so appear to be well covered in this position. It'll be interesting to see if Karnezis signs permanently or goes back to Udinese. I'm now off to make some Gomes gifs..............
I hope we do sign OK permenantly, Gomes has been great for us, and he is still a great GK. However, time waits for no man and Karnezis has earned the No1 slot at the moment, not so good for HG, but as someone else said our GK situation is stronger that it has looked for quite sometime, especially if this young Swedish lad is as good as billed. So if we manage to secure Karnezis permenantly we can look forward to having a great Goal Keeping team.
