Interestingly after 10 games we have the same number of points as Mazzarri and I enjoyed today as much as during his tenure....... Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Wrong to knock any players in their first year at the club. Some of them need a run of games and confidence. Not all of them will come good like Doucoure but give the lads a chance. Still, this year we look good to watch and look more likely to score, so not going to get too down yet until we lose our next game.
Shock horror - zztop continues his weird little agenda against Troy Deeney, which has been going since Deeney was routinely scoring 20 goals a season in the Championship.
Being able to defend corners is as important as our inability to score at the other end. Gray was a poor signingn and Deeney is finished, but it will cost upwards of 20m to get the right man, most likely. 20m and we can get a good centre half and a left back, though I thought Holebas was good today.
I would have loved to of been a fly on the wall in the Watford dressing room at full time hearing Silva's analysis. I was waiting for the Stoke fans to start singing "Shall we sing a song for you..."
Well back to Earth with a thump, Chelsea I was alright with but this was a painful loss Though they were dreadfully and still they beat us, fair play to them. Didn’t think we played badly just missing something up front not sure what, but Pereya and Chalobah need to come back to give us that edge. I guess playing against 11 people in the box is hard. Thought holebas looked good also I have Gomes in my fantasy league, sure he is going to score one of these days. Thought the Deeney incident at the end looked a bit dodgy , think he will be lucky to escape with no punishment for that
> Thought the Deeney incident at the end looked a bit dodgy , think he will be lucky to escape with no punishment for that. My thoughts exactly. What on earth was he doing? Frustration was probably a major factor but getting needlessly booked in a game... Maybe that was due to his invisibility for the other 90+ minutes.
Stoke were awful. We were awful. Time to move on quickly from this one. I think they were the worst side to visit the Vic for a number of years. Still they got the points. That was almost entirely down to Zouma, who was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. With Silva, we have to accept that we will concede first most games. We also have to accept that we will concede from a set piece in pretty much every match. I think that a mixed zonal system is actually generally more effective, when you also man mark the obvious threats. But Silva’s system puts us at a huge disadvantage, every match. We tried, but without Chalobah and Pereyra’s guile and with no decent striker anywhere near the Vic, we couldn’t get through their 11 players, who sat 35 yards from their goal for most of the game. I can’t tell who was worse, Deeney or Carrillo. But they were both so abysmal, that they in comparison made Andre Gray look OK.
We play better against the technical sides nowadays. No need to worry about this result in the grand scheme of things, the thing is we created enough chances. If we played the 1st half like we did the 2nd we would have been ok. Tired of the idiotic 'match by match' fans on here who love or hate the player from week to week depending on the result. Deeney in/Gray in.
To be fair this is a forum and people are entitled to give a view. The fact of the matter today was that Deeney was a bad and fatigued as people are saying. It's a shame he never heard me shout "play for the badge Troy" . I do understand your point though but generally today has been a let down after so much anticipation for a good performance and we never got it. Thus lots of annoyed loyal hornets.
Remarkable how much we have to say this when we lose to a team we can't break down for love nor money. At least that's one throwback from the Championship days we can rely on.
So same number of points as this time last season. Stoke was the turning point for the worst last year, hopefully this isn't a sign of history repeating. Hopefully can move on quickly
Four players had 40% of the total possession across both teams - Cleverley, Doucouré, Kabasele and Britos. Capoue was pointless in that advanced role, he can't receive the ball on the half turn and keep the momentum going, and doesn't find space. Hughes must be ahead of him now for that role, surely?
Yes, I'm sure Deeney would have played better if he heard you say that! May I ask what 'Life is the buzz' means?
I feared it might be like this today. Stoke with their defensive, cynical, physical football and us not being able to find any space, getting frustrated and running out of ideas. Like others have said, our slow build ups and lack of ideas reminded me of last season. Positioning for the corner left space at the back and in the front - it was well taken goal though. Was glad to see Hughes on for Capoue. Agree with the comment about Oliver. He didn't over-react to the bundles towards the end. Agree with others that we need quality in central defence and central attack. How we miss Pererya and Chalobah. Stoke and this sort of football is always going to be difficult - i'm sure there will be some lessons learnt today (about style of play and players that just are no longer good enough for the premier league).
Deeney should have lifted Joe Allen's head clean off his shoulders and rolled it over to Mark Hughes. That lad must have had a deathwish starting that up, and his mate Shawcross ended on the floor. One of those frustrating days against a proper crap side (amazing they keep surviving on the prem), but they have an uncanny ability to frustrate and survive. Our failure to recognise bombs into the box weren't working cost us our chance today. Cleverley our MOTM - always looking for the ball and trying to drive forward, particularly in the second half where I think he had 30% game possession on his own.
Yes, because he is consistently one of our poorer players. If you think that, because I want to replace him with someone more effective, I have an "agenda" then that is up to you. But when he played well a few weeks ago, I was the first to praise his performance. He just plays well so rarely. Unfortunately, scoring 20 goals in the Championship is no use to us when we are playing in the Premier League
Don't all fans say that though? (And infact some of their own don't seem so cheery about an away win...) Typical result after all the positive national press in the past few weeks!
Was he one of our poorest players when we were in the Championship and you were caning him every week? 20 goals a season in the Championship are indeed no good in the Prem. How about 13 and 10 in the Prem?
Buddug (pronounced Bithig) is Welsh for Victoria and the name of my welshophone ex cousin-in-law. There's a statue of Queen Buddug in Cardiff City Hall. Growing up on Norfolk, we knew the earlier queen as Boadecea, which was also the name of a steam loco on the Norwich-Liverpool St line.
We had many great players in the Championship who we've moved on from. Deeney is another. A legend for what he's done for us in the past but not good enough for us now.
Exactly & probably the most confident penalty taker & team leader we've ever had at the club in 20 years. Don't worry though, I can assure you in the next game he scores in everyone will love him again..until the next game he doesn't.
Come on mate, he literally came on and nearly single-handedly won us a game against one of the best sides in the league two weeks ago. Surely you can't actually believe that?
Fair point. However I don't see he offers enough to be more than an impact sub nowadays. Today he was dreadful. It was one of the worst striker performances I've seen, and I was ever present through the Moralee and White eras.
Queen Boadicia (lots of spellings of her name) was a Queen I did a paper on at college. It's believed she is buried under Kings Cross Station but it's never been proved.
