To close a thread for a few innocuous insults on a vibrant political forum is wrong.
I can understand if you gave a "yellow card" specifically saying that you would take action if the insults threatened to drown out the debate or deleted one or two posts but no you just close a good thread down.
My last post was "move on" and OK one or two residual insults low key stuff came in but I think you are far too quick to close a debate.
Please reconsider and re-open that thread - we will take your warning as a yellow rather than red card

Actually kind of agree with the decision to shut the thread. The way it had deteriorated warranted it. Too many threads in this part of the forum descend into anarchy, I think Meister was justified to close it.

Perhaps, but it's hardly akin to a teacher having to break up a primary school playground fight. The people expressing opinions (of Brexit or other members) are all adults and noone is forcing anybody to browse the Politics section.

Have to side with Sting on this, too many good threads get summarily closed for a bit of petty name calling. I know the standard answer is the mods have lives too and can't spend all their time moderating, which is fair enough I suppose, but I think this place moderates itself pretty well.

You mean like every thread about Brexit? And if that's the mod position, why allow the numerous 'part 2' threads that come from closing them?

I don't thing meister should feel so responsible. If people start trading insults the rest of us should probably point it out first. 99% of the time it would give pause enough for thought.

The occasional hot headed post in my direction isn't a big deal to me. Even the people I clash with are people I also share the odd laugh with. I trust we can turn it around if necessary.

I know it was mostly my fault the thread got into insults as ZZ and I had a go at each other. However the stupid thing is I like reading what ZZ posts - I agree with his views on lots of things and despite what I might have said tongue in cheek I know ZZ is a very intelligent and able poster. To me a bit of give and take in a political discussion is fine. As Moose says when the insults get a bit OTT other posters tell us to pipe down.
A shame Meister feels he has to be so final - a little moderation goes a long way.
It is not as if Meister is rushed off his feet in keeping the board calm. Still he is the Mod so it is his decision. Let us see if he is open to persuasion or not.

If Meister has anything about him, he’ll lock this thread for a laugh.

When I make a moderating decision I'm happy to explain why I made that decision but I will not enter into any discussion about whether that decision is right or wrong. As members you accept that in posting here.

Memebrs will not necesarily have seen all posts as some may have been removed from public view. Members will not have seen reports or complaints filed, members will just see the results.
You also have to remember that moderating is not our job (although I do have a very accommodating employer during slack periods), we can't spend time weeding out every little thing just to keep things in check. Locking or deleting whole threads may be the only efficient call to make.

We have to run the form in such a way that it is acceptable to all and blocked by as few providers as possible.

If people get upset at name calling and taking threads off topic causing the closure of threads then don't call people names and drag threads off topic. There's been enough warnings recently

I will move this thread to the right place and lock it.
