Swansea were terrible, another day we could've smashed them by 4 or 5. Half time sub really ****ed things up, had Watson came on I'm confident we'd of cruised to victory. Scenes for the Richarlison goal!
Great win and well done to the fans, boys and Marco for bouncing back after last week. Played very well first half and finished strongly. Well done Gray. That first first goal should get him wanting more. Denney again showing maturity and will for 10 mins at the end and almost scored too. WBA is never an easy game especially away, but I'm more confident we can get something next week.
I said it earlier, but that last picture is the perfect image of what was missing from last year. Carrillo and Gray, who had both been subbed, sprinted from the dugout to join in the celebrations. Ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves a team. One downer though, Richarlison should be fined a month's wages...you don't throw your shirt away. Oh who am I kidding...I'd have done the same, with my bigger nipples. Finally in 2 of the pictures, the dad with the glasses and tracksuit top, holding his kid whilst celebrating...that's a proper dad. Just watched the YT celebration vid and Kabasele gave him his shirt...
Excuse me, do you not care about Watford? After all, focussing on the bad defending and not our great play is what makes us hate all those dastardly pundits. So **** you.
Clement may claim that the two goals were gifted. I would say they are a result of the high pressing game that worked wonders at Southampton and completely stifled them. Both Mawson and Mesa had no options to pass to. Carillo was excellent throughout and when he, Pereyra and Richarlison click together there should be fireworks. We were also denied two clear penalties by a rather incompetent official. What did concern me was Silva not reacting to the tactical changes made by Clement and not being able to maintain possession for much of the second half. Looking at the other teams we should be aiming for the top seven as I can see no one outside of the 'top four' we should be scared of. We do need to have a more positive mentality against those teams and the players need to believe in their ability to compete with those teams like Chelsea and Tottenham and the Mancunian clubs. At home perhaps a little more positive at times with two upfront rather than one. Something like Doucoure and Chalobah in midfield with Richarlison and Carillo/Pereyra wide and Deeney and Gray upfront. Fingers crossed our defensive unit settles and the injuries disappear. We have a far stronger squad, a superior manager and team togetherness that means the hope of a high finish is not out of the question.
So true. Last season we just retreated when the opposition had the ball, and that just invites pressure on the defence. This season it is different, the high pressing and pressure will yield the odd mistake and because we now have some pace and numbers up top, we have the opportunity to take advantage of them.
Does anyone know what the website is that archives all of Jon Marks' reactions to our goals on the radio? Would love to hear his reaction to Richarlison's goal yesterday
Wfc.net I have it saved on my iPad with a heading "highlights" however looking at the site I can't actually find it. However the facts and figures on the site are amazing!
Remember when that Tim Vickery fella (South American 'expert' pundit) said we wouldn't get a WP for Ricky and that we shouldn't be too upset because he's 'average' and players like him were 'two-a-penny' in the Brazilian league. Well, I seriously hope that we go and buy all those players and basically just become Brazil.
I've always been a fan of the larger nipple myself. What an excellent topic for the next match thread.
I reckon you could just buy a lot of Watford fans one of those sensory light toys, because I can only assume that the only reason they watch football is because they like seeing the different colours moving about in front of them. Judging by the way some were howling with derision and fury at the team yesterday afternoon (in particular one fat old fart in a black leather jacket, sat two rows in front of me, who declared very loudly that Silva should be ashamed of himself and that the performance was "embarrassing" 5 minutes into the second half), it can't be because they actually get any other pleasure from them.
I'll raise you the guy with the following vocabulary:- 'Cu*ts' 'Fat cu*t' 'Good boy' 'sheep shaggers' 'welsh cu*ts' 'nonce' 'silva you cu*t' Add to that, a brainless girl laughing and repeating everything he said. At least yours started at the start of the second half. Special fans.
I assume that the only reason it took him that long is that we were winning up until that point, a period during which he didn't make a peep. Once we had the temerity to score again, he returned to a state of corpulent catatonia.
Saw the Pereyra pen incident on the extended highlights and there is clear contact. What baffles me is Lee Mason then not booking him for diving. It's either a pen or dive but Lee Mason has decided it's neither. It's certainly not a coming together so he can't use that excuse either. I would have been annoyed if Pereyra did get booked but at least it would have been consistent with the action he took.
Interestingly - Richarlison's winner was another goal outside the box. Still amazed that dumb and dumber criticised the finish?! First touch wasn't great, but the finish was excellent.
Where do you get the idea that contact=penalty? Is football a contact sport or not? If it is, why would it only be a contact sport in certain areas of the pitch, i.e outside of the box? If it isn't a contact sport, I'm giving up on football and I'm going to watch figure skating instead. It's more testosterone fuelled.
Didn't he gift us our winner last season at the vic when capoue robbed him ? Can we play you every week ?
Of course it is a contact sport but as is the case when discussing penalties most people just use the phrase "their is clear contact" as opposed to saying he fouled him. Sorry I didn't make this clearer in my original post. So just to make it clear, Pereyra was fouled in the box, the Swansea defender tripped him up and didn't get the ball, hence Lee Mason should have awarded a penalty. He didn't, so he must have thought he dived, so then why no booking. Whatever way you look at it, it is incompetent refereeing.
Chalobah just posted on his IG stories a picture of him on crutches and a knee brace, saying 'At least the boys won yesterday. Can smile after a bad week.' Doesn't sound or look too good as regards to his injury.
It was a clear penalty and was actually a nasty challenge. Studs on top of the shin/foot, so very painful. Richalison was also pulled down in the box. Two weeks running we're not getting the decisions we should. Luckily it's not changed the result, but easily could have. How come the officials have perfect decision making when it comes to disallowing Carrillo's goal, but miss penalties for Richarlison and Pererya fouls. How come they have perfect decision making for the Sterling penalty last week, but miss tow offside goals, miss another penalty for foul on Chalobah and miss a blatant foul by Walker on Richarlison which led to City's fifth goal. It's a bit baffling.
Whilst I agree it was a penalty, the often used comment (including by TV pundits) that if it wasn't a penalty then he should have been booked doesn't ring true. I think that the referee has to be pretty sure that it is a penalty before awarding it, and if not sure cannot really give it. Thereafter, he would have to be pretty sure it was a dive before booking someone - considering that a player often trip themselves, or catches the ground, or loses balance, or slips, a player can go down without being tripped by someone else. If he is uncertain why the player fell over, he can't really give either a penalty or a booking.
Totally agree with you but Lee Mason's positioning for what should have been a penalty eradicates those possibilities. He's literally right there and the way Pereyra goes down can only be a dive or a foul. He doesn't make the motion of a slip, tripping over his own foot or stubbing the ground. This is totally nonsense but I'm going to say it anyway. Looking at Lee Mason's facial expression it appears as if he knows it's a foul and a penalty but deliberately doesn't give it. He has a slight smirk as he runs away.
