Weird **** You Buy in Lidls

I find the middle aisle of Lidl/Aldi(insert discount supermarket here) fascinating.

I sometime pop into Lidl at lunchtime when I can face the general substandard quality of people that I have to share the shop with. A couple of years ago I popped in and left with a bottle of bleach and an electronic weather station, forgetting lunch altogether. Weather station still working, bleach long since drunk.
Today I managed to find lunch in a pack of tortilla wraps, and also left with an extendable tree pruning kit.

Anyone else impulse purchased weird stuff in discount subermarkets?

Yes indeed - brilliant aisle that is. Like Argos exploded.

Went out to get some bread and milk from Lidls recently and came back with a lemon squeezer and a pair of bongos.

  3. Lidl is an awesome shop, food is great value too

Was in Aldi last night - kids maths books sat between sandals and an industrial size tub of swarfega.

Seeing that my wife and I both work for the company that tests theirs and Aldi's non food I can vouch for it's safety or they wouldn't sell it. Recent purchases include mattress covers, a Japanese backsaw and lots of decorating stuff. I once needed to buy chest high waders for work and popped into a nearby Aldi's purely on the off chance ... lo and behold, there they were and a quarter of the price as elsewhere too. They saved me over an hours drive back to the office.

Discount supermarkets are great, nothing to be sniffed at.

Sort of related, but I never knew how good Poundland was until a few months back, usually pop in to get toiletries and find that it's half the price compared to Boots, Superdrug etc.

This thread is like Aldous Huxley meets The Generation Game!
It is true though,my neighbour bought me a windscreen cover and a washing brush from that isle.
Their own bread is quite good I think, but not as good as Waitrose Cheese Boule.

Today's shopping list consisted of 3 coir doormats and 4 brioche burger buns. I was tempted by the chainsaw.
They had run out of partridges and pear trees.

Heard/read a rumour that their "Park" brand electrical tools are old/discontinued model Bosch tools built in Korea - is that right? I've never heard a "professional" tradesperson dissing them (but I've never seen/heard of one actually owning one).

EDIT: Oh and three of their fold-up garden hammocks.

That wouldn't surprise me. In my experience, big brands outsource the majority of their equipment to third party manufacturing companies. Obviously build to specification. Over runs and run out models are then re badged. Generally the top of the line or professional stuff is still made by the originating brand.
It's why I buy stuff I tend to avoid big brand bottom of the range stuff as you're paying for name not quality.

It certainly rings true with consumer electronics and tools.

Lidl's wine is "pretty good". Lidl's Hungarian wines are very, very good (not just the Tokaji).

Surely three outside doormats is excessive.

No I have 4 outside doors. The old one by by front door has been replaced as it was knackered. That one goes to my side door. My back door gets a new one and so does the door to the darts room.

4 outside doors, AND brioche burger buns??? Quite the Lord of the manor...:)

Well strictly speaking the darts room door is a double so 5 really. But that;s the quality you get in Meister Manor.

Once you've had a brioche bun with a burger you'll never go back, although I find Lidls ones slightly less dense than I'd like and Sainsburys ones slightly too dense & expensive.

I have never been but shall now be adding "visit middle aisle of Aldi/Lidl" to my bucket list.

I am quite the expert on Poundland, however, as this and Superdrug seem to be the retailers of choice for 11 year olds.

Today I popped in to buy some food for lunch.

Walked out with a mini tube of silicone sealant to fix the suspended ceiling light diffuser in the gents loo at work.

I also purchased a blowtorch with 5 gas cannisters for £14. I have no need for a blowtorch I just thought I ought to have one.

I've been racking my brains and that's the only think I can come up with. I have 2 1/2 litres of gas though so I'm going to be the size of Deeney by the end of the week
