Hard to disagree with (when they're on their day that is).. https://rushfootball.co.uk/2017/08/10/watfords-best-4-stars-for-201718/
I disagree with all of them. Pereyra Doucoure Chalobah Cleverley They are our best players in terms of quality.
Pereyra & Doucoure have to be on that list. Deeney and Gomes with them for now - we'll see if the new signings can change that.
Who wrote that article? It must have been based on the 2015/16 season. This season we are an unknown again. Deeney could still be a big player. Holebas is good going forward. Gomes is the best keeper we've had in years. However, we have Grey who could be a great signing, Dacoure, Pereyra, Richarlison, Hughes, Chalobah. Heck, we could win this Premiership thing!
Deeney was definitely in our top 4 best players not too long ago but didn't prove it last year. I hope he can regain his form but I don't think it can be said he's in our best four at the moment. That would be: Prodl Doucouré Pereyra Chalobah
There really has been an explosion in the number of very random football blogs/websites in recent months/years. What on earth is 'rushfootball'? Who's funding it? Why are they obsessed with "blah blah's 4 top players'? Judging by the effort and quality on display in that article, they are not needed.
Agree with Prodl, Deeney, Pereyra, Doucoure. Think Holebas and Gomes are just behind them. Capoue has bags of talent, but very rarely uses it so I wouldn't have him near the top 4
I think if they are our best 4 players we're in for a very dull season. How any 'journalist' could rate a club like Watfords best four players and leave Peyrera off the list is baffling.
RP didn't exactly have enough game time to show that to the media/wider public & we have only seen glimpses of his talent. If I'm honest I think we have put him on a bit of a pedestal, he's a proving to be like Janmaat talented but fragile. You have to ask yourself why Juve took a loss on him?
Not really, they just looked at the stats for last year and chucked in the big names. Lazy journalism. For last year no-one really covered themselves in glory for the whole season. For this season we have potential to have 6-8 very big players, put it's potential, too early to tell but the shortlist has to include. Deeney (depending on his fitness) Gomes Pereya (depending on his fitness) Richarlson (depending on his adaption to the league, initial signs are good) Grey (At his cost he has to) Chalobah (he has something to prove) Capoe (depending on his mood) Then you have Prodl who is a solid performer Holebas Success who's always looked bright, needs to be given a run. Okaka (if he can improve his stamina) Cleverly (if played in the right position) Zarate (depending on his fitness and if he wants to stay) Hughes (plenty of potential) In fact this is the most optimistic I have been in years. The squad and it's depth has potential.
IMO, Pereyra Doucoure Holebas Prodl Most consistent performers, All of them on there day can put in quite the Show.
Juve are one of the best teams in world football and we're trying to establish ourselves as one of the best 10-12 teams in English football. The difference is vast. Pereyra and Doucoure are by far and away our best players at the moment and any success we have this season will be down to keeping those two fit. Hopefully Pereyra will be back in a couple of weeks and maintain his fitness otherwise he's going to be tough to replace.
His talent is not in doubt, but what's the point of paying 30K a week & when he's so fragile & will only play in 25% of games. He's a luxury player. I'd prefer someone with slightly less flair in that position with high work rate that doesn't get injured every 5 minutes. He played in a total of 26 games in the last 2 years at both Juve & Watford many as sub which says something. He's built like a twig. Nice work if you can get it. Juve as you say are one of the best teams in the world, they are not stupid & they do not sell players on the cheap. There is a reason they sold him to us for less than they bought him for.
And it's average age. We've now a good mix of age vs youth. Experience vs potential. A core of a team that could be together for 3 or 4 years unless the right bids come in. Just 1 or 2 defenders and we have a decent long-short term mix.
Got to question your view that Pereyra is consistent. At the time of his injury he had not demonstrated any consistency, impressing in probably only two or three games, and, I'm afraid, proving less consistent and less influential in games than the much maligned Amrabat at the time . He's only played half a competitive match since then, and though he showed potential, he's hardly shown consistency. There is a lot of big talk about Pereyra right now, and yes, he has enormous potential, but at the moment, it is the Kings new clothes until he has a consistent run of influential games.
Looking back at it now I do see the Mistake in what I posted. I still reckon the other three are consistant however. I would also add that in terms of potential and the levels one has already achieved, Pereyra deserves to be on that list anyhow.
Hard to disagree? This list is awful Maybe one or two seasons ago, maybe some of them Capoueue is **** and we should get rid, he has an awful attitude Gomes is passed it and we need a replacement or competition, he might hang on for a season Deeney. Injured, scored penalties last year. Maybe. Holebas bang average and again could do with an upgrade For me Pereyra - cut above Doucoure - excellent skills Prodl our best defender Ricarlson - slightly controversial but shows a lot of promise
