Que? Very good record wherever he's gone with results and rapport with his players, and for him to have gotten Hull into that position was a miracle in itself. This is startlingly obvious
One of my concerns around us in this transfer window is just how attractive a proposition we are for that higher level of player? Aside from PL football and proximity to London, I don't really see why a any player with options would choose us. I fear that this summer is the time where our 'manager changes' and poor ending to last season come home to roost. I imagine there are very little secrets in football these days due to agents, and if the atmosphere was as toxic as it seemed last season, you can be sure most players will have heard that and that can't be helping attract players. I can imagine we are having to work twice as hard as most clubs to convince prospective targets that it's the right move.
I agree but the main factor this year is the crazy market and stupid prices. Gino does not want to get sucked in. Getting outbid by Boro' not once but twice was a watershed. Getting specialist left-sided defenders and strikers is always difficult. Plenty of crazy dribbling wingers with issues/ baggage in Europe so won't cost as much. Still think we have more pluses than minuses. Most managers have referred to the difficult market due to prices/ player and agent power. Many deals taking a long time to close down. We are not immune to these market factors. Trouble is any 'bargains' are flying off the shelves. If we don't start getting guys in soon we could have a tricky start in two weeks. COYHS
There is a chasm between - outbid and thought the price that someone else was prepared to pay was ludicrous - clearly time will tell but i would sooner have 22m in the bank than fletcher and assombalonga on the bench - 22m buys a proper player ready to challenge the first team - not a risky punt for a championship side - which both players are Just be patient - the Silva interview tells us it is coming - clearly if players were english and ready for liverpool then great - but foreign and available for muff is fine too - as long as player (s) are improvements which neither of these 2 are IMHO
Exactly. We really need to stop taking transfer rumours as fact. We have no evidence at all to say we bid for any players that we haven't signed. The chances are that it's agents leaking falsehoods to push prices up. I'd be very surprised if any players that Boro have signed chose them over us and it's much more likely we didn't give them a choice to make. I really don't see how it can be described as a 'watershed moment' when it's unlikely to have even happened. Gibbs, Carrillo, Ghezzal, Neto, Lemina, Pepe, Jenkinson, Cuevas, Assombalonga, Fletcher etc...all rumours, so it's obvious we will discuss them. But it's silly to claim we've missed out on some of them or even had interest because we don't know that and it's even sillier to blame the club for not buying players we were never interested in - save for a column in the Hertfordshire Mercury!
Slaven Bilic was speaking about Fletcher's departure by talking about how his year at Spam at made him the source of interest from lots of Championship clubs and that he'd have preferred to have loaned him out. He didn't mention any Premier League interest at all.
Im hearing the creaking sound of the wheels of a bandwagon starting up. Count me in. Im on board. Silva OUT.
Of course they are all rumours! My main point is that our transfer strategy has changed in this crazy market. This is good (Hughes and Chalobah) and bad in that we are not currently landing any signings. Hope to be pleasantly surprised but if we are after quality in key positions we can't buck the market. An EPL side has to spend 20+ million pounds currently for a striker with any top league pedigree - FACT. COYHS
Can't help but feel a little bit disappointed with how the week has gone. From the interview on Saturday, it had us all excited. Then Monday the announcement of Richarlison but needs a WP, was exciting but annoying at the same time. However it got me thinking wow, we are really going for it this week. Then the past 4 days have just coasted by with more rumours but nothing done. 8 days away from playing Liverpool and out of the 4-6 new faces being bought in, we haven't officially signed one. Ironically I posted that I expected 3 signings this week but I am probably setting myself up for disappointment. Well I did and I am.
Silva probably meant signings for Watford Women's team. Of which they have signed two!!! #MoreExcitedForTheWomensSeason
I'm not so much disappointed as I am bored and concerned. Bored of the same tired rumours doing the rounds, bored of all the bickering and nonsense on these transfer threads and concerned that without more attacking players we will go down.
Common sense! Pre season training is about getting the squad prepared for the start of the season, ergo with less than 7 days to our first match, common sense dictates that some of the players that will make up the squad for the season will be recruited in time for them to be coached into the style of play the manager / coach expects.
If you look at the way Pozzo's recruitment they sign a lot of players late in the transfer window which doesn't close till 31st August. I expect a few in and outs before the final squad is confirmed.
But some of the players have been recruited in time. Others are still in the pipeline. Isn't that how every transfer window pans out at nearly every club? It only ever seems to be the big clubs at the top of the tree who have the luxury of doing their business early and then heading off on tour to foreign climes with a complete squad.
there seems to be a lot more impatience amongst our fanbase this year than in previous years. people need to just chill out, still plenty of time yet to get some players in. everyone seems to think that football manager is true to life nowadays.
We wont get anything from Liverpool 99% on that one unless a striker turns up quickly ! ,what does concern me is the Brightom and Muff games, could our present squad beat these teams ,due to lack of firepower I would say no .IF thats the case then I would agree with Merse ,thats the negative side . Has Gino ever let us down so far on his promises ? thats the positive side.
This transfer window is the equivalent of a Beckett play: Nothing happens, Nobody comes, nobody goes. It's awful. On the other hand it is the that very special combination of expectation, gradually rising stress and extreme boredom that lends itself to a particular form of mental torture
The window is like spending winter dreaming of exotic overseas holidays, maybe Africa, maybe South America, the Far East.....before booking the usual 2 weeks in Devon.
Would love to see behind the scenes at the work being done to get players in and how much waiting you have to do, negotiating with agent, club, agent, club etc. Those in charge of this area are surely doing all they can, be interesting to hear what happened once the window slams (gently eases) shut. Of course would be even more interesting to be reading up on all the new attacking players we've just signed.
It must be a logistical nightmare & it must be frustrating when you've put in a lot of work only to see the player sign for Southampton or bloody Stoke or Palarse instead for slightly more money
Agreed, it's annoying for us as fans, but I guess it's the lives (even if it is a great life) of the players, moving families or away from them, taking into account the club, the money, the future of their careers. Then the clubs doing what's best for them. Painful really, but everyone is in the same boat and we need those new signings! Just wonder if we still have any of our top targets in our sights, just waiting on the selling club.....or if we are down to our Z choices!?
We are probably way beyond Z ,if recruitment dept has been doing its job or at least trying to do its job . I am still holding on to the hope that Gino is waiting till the end of the window for some "bargains" and we will have some new players by end of the month!,however I am starting to get a little nervous ,any new players will need time to settle ,by end of the month 3 games down ,take maybe a couple of weeks for newbies to get up to speed if we are lucky ,concerned we are giving our rivals a decent headstart.
anyone else think silva is looking a bit pissed off in interviews. like maybe he was promised something that hasn't developed. I haven't seen every interview just an idea.
