With a year left on his contract yeah? I'm sure Burnley would love to lose him for nothing rather than make a nice little profit on him this summer.

Danny Ings would be a better suggestion than Andre Gray. And £25m for Gray? I'll have what you're smoking. Makes £15m for Assombalonga look like a steal - which it isn't.

Alternatively, he scores 13 goals, keeps Burnley up and they get tv money again.

According to the Daily Mail Website, "Watford captain Troy Deeney will miss the club's pre-season trip to Austria as he continues his recovery from injury. The 29-year-old striker has had surgery on a minor groin problem and will remain in the UK for a short rehabilitation period, according to the Premier League side's official website", but I can't find it on there????

Not often Deeney is injured TBF so must be "serious" enough not to risk him.

Maybe Silva will play one up front in the 2 games with Okaka starting one and Success the other...

As much as I think he's decent, like Britt, he has no prem experience, so you cannot say he'd be a decent replacement let alone an upgrade.

a proven goalscorer in the championship costs atleast £15m , so a proven prem goalscorer would be atleast £25m.
Andre Gray has no premier league experience??played in 32 games last season

It was from August for about 3 months that he seemed to be at his biggest. the Leicester game was nearer the end of November. He came back from a two week break around that time looking at lot better. Maybe he was preparing for the "fly on the wall" documentary.

However, fair do's, looking at the photos of him so far this summer, he seems to have knuckled down a bit and seems fine, so if he stays, we'll hopefully see Deeney as he should be.

The price for megastar Jacob Murphy to move from Norwich to Newcastle is £12.5m. Crazy prices. 9 goals in 40 appearances in the champ.

Inadvertently though I'm afraid, I had it in my head that he was at Birmingham...Senior moment I'm afraid.

Obviously we dont know the true nature of his injury, but it does seem a bit strange that he isn't travelling. He is our club captain and the new boss is trying to get his methods across to the squad and ideally Deeney would be there providing support, etc, as he does his own carefully orchestrated rehabilitation.

I reckon there is more to it.

    He's off.

I wasn't aware he is the only one staying behind if you don't count Mason.

    Does seem odd...

Worried he might have too much influence?

    Doubt he's going anywhere,

He's got two new English speaking players he can banter with, one in Chalobah who he got on very well with in 12/13 and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Deeney had a hand in Chalobah joining.

I find the debate about Deeney's weight frustrating. Professional clubs have nutritionists, physios and fitness coaches that are tasked with fine tuning the players physiques for the roles the head coach is looking for. If Deeney has gained mass or lost it over a particular period it is highly likely to have been engineered by the support staff to help him adjust to the style of play the manager wants. It may well have been that Mazzari wanted Deeney to be a more muscular, boisterous center forward, whilst Silva wants him to be more mobile for example. Ultimately, it's the head coach that is responsible for getting the best out of Deeney and that includes setting him the right regime so that he can excel in the role envisioned for him.

What happened to self discipline and responsibility, for £50k to £100k a week, whatever it is.

My point is, if the head coach and support team has given him direction on how they want him to play and what regime can help him get into the best shape for that, the self-discipline thing to do is follow that advice and gain or trim down as appropriate. I don't know what Deeney's coaches were telling him, so can't judge whether he's over or underweight for the role they want him to play.

Dunno 'bout all that but in my day I found the difference between two or three pre-match pints had quite an impact.

According to Kevin Affleck's latest article about Chalobah on the official site, he certainly did:

Chalobah called Troy Deeney a couple of weeks back to see how the land lies at the club these days when it became clear he wanted regular football.
Whatever Deeney said did the trick as Chalobah turned down the chance to join his former coach Paul Clement and friend Tammy Abraham at Swansea.
