As predicted some time ago, we've finished 17th, just avoiding the dreaded drop. As predicted we lost 9 of the last 12 matches As predicted we lost the final 6 As predicted we wouldn't score a single goal in our final 6 games (5 out of 6 wasn't a bad effort) As predicted those with the opposite view still want to take a swipe and mock, even though they've been proved hopelessly wrong......yet again. The warning signs were there for whoever wanted to look. Many got it wrong this season, and I'm also talking about those within the club. Action should have been taken much earlier than it was. We came very close to going down, but we somehow stayed up......but not without a cost. 8th place was there for the taking. It has cost us £17.1m in extra revenue to finish 17th. We ended the season being probably the worst team never to be relegated.
95% of us said we would lose the last 6 HB1, just no-one (you aside) thought we would go down. So doesn't that mean we are all proved right? Anyway, not looking for an argument, I actually enjoy reading many of your views. Perhaps this particular one could be dropped now though?
And despite all that, as it turned out, we were safe on 34 points on April 1st - some 7 weeks ago Just give in now, you've had a massive massive mare
Whilst you are right to point out those issues it is a bit like hearing from a boasting child saying "I told you so" and expecting some sort of gold star! Sort of sums up the modern game that probably the biggest issue will be the fact we "lost" 17 million or so just for being really crap over 6 games (against some decent sides) Worse side to stay up? Well based on the last few games maybe but sure teams have been just as fortunate in the past..ie been down in the bottom 3 all season and just scrapped themselves out of it. Sunderland a few times comes to mind. Anyway its season over and we did stay up..
It's very odd on the new forum. It's like people are arguing with themselves thanks to the new ignore function. It's brilliant trying to guess the nonsense they are responding to, yet not that hard.
Yes....I'm sure 95% will claim that now.....but in reality very few did. I was told it wouldn't happen because of the laws of probability. The odds were far too long for that to happen. So I stuck to my gut feel, and was proved correct. I have earned the right to point it out after all the crap I constantly have to take in protecting my valid opinions. I never said we'd go down though, so you're actually making this up......in good forum fashion. I said we were not safe....and was repeatedly told "we are 10th....we are mid-table". The smug complacency on here was......and this still remains......quite outstanding.
Seasons over, let's all move forward without the childish bickering of who said what. No-one cares anymore. The season is over, we stayed up despite being rubbish for considerable length of time. Thankfully three teams were worse than us which is quite comical. Mazzarri and his 13 side kicks have gone. New season ahead, fresh start. Adidas kit, Niang gone, we still get to play with Watford in the Prem on FIFA 18 and qualify for CL in our first season. We will have a better manager and back room staff next season with some exciting signings and much more attractive football. Gino knows he has to get it right this time because he knows if he doesn't next year will be our last in the Prem. Overall this season gets filed away in the history folder and soon forgotten. We have a new season to look forward too and an exciting summer.
We were never going to finish around 10th. Fixture list with the devilishly difficult final tun of games meant we achieved our points tally earlier than we might have had some of these difficult games come earlier in the second half of the season. Even had we had a fully fit squad getting something out of these games would have been difficult. Not many were disputing we might lose these games, they were disputing that we were in real danger of going down. History will show we were 6 points off, a comfortable margin. Could we have finished top half, maybe with better luck with injuries. Game today showed how far off we off the big guns. All Man City worth 30m plus and all their subs comfortably better than any players we have got. Don't understand how anyone could think we could get away today with anything less than a big defeat, no centre halves, never known it to happen in following Watford for over 40 years.
Well I certainly said I felt we would lose the last 6, and there were very few saying anything different. You said we were in danger of going down from it. I and nerly everyone else said we weren't in danger of going down. And we didn't. And 6 points to a relegated side takes on average 6 games to achieve. So Hull needed 6 more games to catch us, but that's a 44 game season not 38. In a 38 game season we were safe. We were safe. It's been proved. I was right. The forum majority were right.
We were dead in the water for a long time, unable to do anything for ourselves. Saying we survived by 6 points is purely down to the final failings of Hull City. We could not control what they did, apart from when we capitulated at their place. We were the 4th worst team in the league this season.....that is a fact recorded in the league table. That's pretty damn close if you ask me. Very few thought my opinions had any merit whatsoever and this is why it was ridiculed so readily. Just because we stayed up, is not proof that we weren't in any trouble. We were in a big mess, but only a few could actually see it. Now, of course, everyone will claim they knew this all along, but very few will actually say things before they happen because they don't want the stick that goes with it.
I have defended you on more than one occasion in recent weeks, even if I did find the constant 'I know better' tone of your posts rather tiresome. But all of this just rings untrue. You tried to back up all of your posts all the time with statistics and numbers. But the base of your posts was we will lose our last 6 games and maybe get relegated. I read them. All of them. The vast majority of responses were that we thought we would also lose the last 6 games but we would stay up. You are now shifting yourself towards to our side of the argument whilst trying to gloat you were right and mosy others were wrong. And that's just a lie. Just let the broken record remain broken and move on. Or even better, bin it, realise the season is over, and talk about what is to come rather than what has been.
My knowledge is superior to all of yours. I texted my brother back in January that Mazzarri was a clown and we would finish 17th, suck on that suckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited my post to add more ! I realised I didn't have enough for my childish gloating
Seriously.......claims that are made on here are just ridiculous. I know what is said and what is not said. You can make thinks up if it serves your purpose. Lies are made up about what I say all the time....like I've been saying all season we should sack Mazzarri...which is untrue....until Tuesday after the Chelsea game when I finally had enough of him.....and so did the club....and they sacked him on Wednesday. I've never said we would get relegated. All I ever said was we are not as safe as many were making out. Very few thought we'd lose all 6......I had many debates on the matter and do not recall anyone backing up my point-of-view at the time. I was told I was wrong and that I didn't understand probability. It's extremely funny, that people still try to defend their position once the passing of time has played out.
Well said.....I like childish gloating......as it puts some many of the smug self-righteous pr****, that frequent these boards, firmly in their place......if only for 24 hours or so.
Hold up. The only person I can seeing trying to 'defend their position' is you! What other reason would you have for posting that list of predictions?
When this place closes down for the Summer just what the hell do some of you lot do with your selves.
And we are all Watford fans who all want our club to succeed. The last few weeks have been fairly sad ones for us all, I'm guessing. So that's it. Season over. No more action to discuss and even argue over now until July. But the excitement of a new Head Coach soon, and hopefully a cleansing of the playing squad so that we start afresh in August with a vibrant and hungry group of players who all care passionately about the club and it's badge on their shirts. Who realise how blessed they are in life for earning very comfortable sums of money for kicking a ball around a pitch once a week. Money need I add that comes partly from the hard-earned wages of the likes of us on this forum. In the end, the negative fears of many were proved right by the last few weeks as the the Mazzarri 'era' self-combusted and collapsed. I'm sure none were totally happy to be proved right, because their pessimistic predictions coming true meant bad news for the club and all of us as supporters. Those who defended Mazzarri to the near bitter end did so out of optimism and belief and hope, none of these being bad qualities to possess . I always found their opinions worth reading too. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the last few weeks have been quite tough on a personal level. I had hoped to find in my football a temporary escape from things. How wrong I was. The last few weeks have been pretty awful on the pitch haven't they?! But just as my family are facing our cancer case head on, so I trust our club will do the same to the problems staring it in the face. It's my express wish that both my Mum and our beloved football team will both still be standing in robust health when the new season starts. Thank you for all the kind messages I've received over the last few weeks. We might all bicker on here at times but there remains a very good and decent heart to this forum and I enjoy it very much. I hope everybody will now forget 3-5-2 for a few weeks and the nightmares of defending set pieces and injury crisises and have a lovely few summer months. Especially the forum member who has chosen Malta for his summer holiday with his girlfriend!!
I'm not making anything up. Theres a certain amount of Donald Trump about your post here...."Lies are made up about what I say all the time'. A case in point? Read my post and you'll see that I state I believe from your posts that you talked that we would lose all 6 and MAYBE get relegated. I never once said you said we would. I don't think many others did either. Perhaps some did but it was the constant negativity that you talked with that is probably clouding that judgement on both sides. You perhaps think you are achieving some sense of 'I told you I was right" by your posting tonight, but in truth, I suspect many find your constant spinning of words extremely tiresome. Nobody likes being told they were wrong, especially when they weren't.
Here, here. And easily one of the most sensibly put together paragraphs this forum has witnessed in recent months.
You should keep your posts to what you actually know. You know what you've written yourself, but you cannot quote what the majority of the forum has said, as it's simply not true. The bit in bold is quite ironic. Basically the rules of this forum are......one person can be slaughtered for their view.....but if it actually turns out to be true....he's not allowed to give some of it back?
What do you want, a medal? Or the attention that you so desperately crave? Like not one single person gives a single toss about what you said weeks ago. At the end of the day, none of us here are professional managers with "expertise" so whatever is said on this forum can only be taken with a pinch of salt. Not only that, actions speak louder than words so if you feel as if your predictions and future telling capabilities are that important then feel free to apply at Watford and ask Gino for a job as a fortune teller.
A medal would actually be quite nice......as I already get plenty of attention. But.....I do back my judgment with the bookies......and usually make a tidy profit by the end of the season.
And you should keep your posts silent and unwritten. You weren't slaughtered for your view, you were slaughtered because you spoke as if you knew better than everyone else. Even when what everyone else said would happen, happened.
Can someone remind me when we were last down 4-0 at home at half time, I seem to remember a Spurs cup game but not sure!
