Ok fair enough, I just took that from memory. But their fall was spectacular that season, and there are parallels with us.

Let's just hope Palace do us a favour today and we can put all this to bed until May 2018.

If after 38 games we finish 17th then that still doesn't mean we are in a relegation battle. The battle has to be ongoing to be called a battle. I still don't get this relegation talk. While mathematically we are not safe, we have been for a while and still have not really been that close to the bottom 3. Next season is a different discussion altogether but I see our current run of 4 defeats in a row being discussed and that it may well become 6. Yes it's poor but at the start of the season how many points did people honestly think we would get from away games at Chelsea, Everton, Leicester and home games against City and Liverpool? Hull away being the only game we realistically should be winning made it a very tough end to the season.

That is quite honestly one of the worst posts I've read on this forum on any subject. Could you really be anymore self loving or pig headed or should we all just bow down in front of you. The thing with people with a great knowledge and understanding of the game is that a good percentage of people understand what they're saying and quite often agree with them, not always as football is about opinions but a very high percentage.

Well, if Hull win it'll at least make the last game of the season interesting. Survival Sunday is always a good laugh.

Can't disagree with any of that. I think I've been more surprised by the resurgence of Swansea since we played them than our own performances in that time because I only expected two to four points in our final 6 - still possible obviously

Your penultimate para. suggests you really have no idea about probability at all.

However, IF Hull have won in a couple of hours and IF we also get stuffed tomorrow night then we will enter the last day of the season with the oft-mentioned 'squeaky bums' and might revisit the odds depending on the goal difference swing then required to deliver armageddon ...

I'd prefer the draw as I don't really want palace to finish above us but at this stage beggars can't be choosers! :p

Think a draw is good enough for palace as well.

Hull could still score 3 goals to win the game. They could also get the goals required to close the huge gap in goal difference.

I think even HB1, the most pessimistic of pessimists must think we are safe now.

Hey HB1. If we lose our final six games but we end up 6pts clear of the relegation zone in 17th will you accept we were never in a relegation battle?

To an extent I agree with you about the football, but this post is an indication why so many want to argue every point with you. The post is all about you, and how much more intuitive and intelligent you are than everyone else. It takes the focus of the thread away from the football and on to you. Maybe that is what you want, but then you get upset when they keep it in the personal level.

Most of us are guilty of this sometimes, and I know I have to keep checking myself on the politics section, but it doesn't make it right.

The tone of his post was deliberate. Clearly the level of attention he received from other posters yesterday was not sufficient to satisfy his ego so he wanted to ramp it up.

Anyway looks like we have defied the odds of 1-1500 and avoided relegation so this car crash of a thread can be discontinued!

All I was doing is putting forward where I'm coming from in the argument. Why I have my opinion. If others take it the wrong way and decide I'm making it all about me or that I'm better than anyone else, then I can do nothing g about that. All I can say is it was not my intention.

This was never my point. I said we are not as safe as you and many others made out. We've only stayed up by virtue of Hull finally faltering and last weeks unexpected defeat at home to Sunderland really hit them hard.

Watford have done nothing to help themselves......they were completely helpless in this situation, and had to rely on others to come to their rescue.

So we were 100% in a relegation battle. To finish 17th but to not concede we were in any danger at all, is complacent in the extreme.

Just because Hull finally failed does not take anything away from how hopeless our team has become without the ability to help themselves.

We got to 40 points (the widely accepted amount of points required to stay up) with a month to spare by beating teams around us. How is that not helping ourselves?

We got 40 points, and thankfully it was enough in the end. But, we had to rely on Hull failing. Had they beaten Sunderland, we may have needed another point or two, but were unable to get it. This is why we were vulnerable. If people cannot see that, or accept that point, then fair enough. I think it's a valid point of view, that many share in "the real word" but many can't see that on here.
