Would there be any way to listen to the whole service again, including the speeches? Unfortunately I missed it

    was Elton there?

  6. Levon

No, he wasn't. The Vicar suggested beforehand that Elton felt that too much focus would have been paid to him (rather than GT and the family) had he attended, and the additional coverage that it would have generated would have been unfair on them. Instead, he wrote a tribute that was read by John Motson.

Very emotional and moving. His children and grandkids did remarkably well. Had to move at one point as the guy next to me spent almost the whole of the first hour tapping his phone and I had an overwhelming desire to thump him. Great turnout of ex players, rival managers and broadcasters.

P.S. Well done to the club for the hard work put in to organising and for producing a superb Order of Service.

Many of us were given order of services so were able to follow the service and participate in the hymns etc, it looked like the family were pleased and humbled to see the turnout! extremely well organised event which the club can be proud of!

The chap next to me had driven down from Scun thorpe, said he had met G.T. a few times!
(unfortunately I had to spell the town that way, wouldn't let me do it normally!)

Does anyone know what the poem was called one of his daughters read at the service and who originally wrote it?Such touching words and she read it so well must of been very hard for her she must be a very strong woman to read that out in front of so many people,Graham would of been very proud of her and the rest of the family, great send off for a great man.Rest Easy GT we will never forget you and the impact you have had on people's lives.

I'm emotionally drained. I was lucky to go Arsenal last night, got back home to Leicester at 1am ( wasn't driving ) Got up early this morning, drove to Watford to be outside St Mary's for the great man's service. So glad I did. So proud to be a Watford supporter tonight. The club and the fans gave him the send off he deserved.

Before the service, a tall chap with long grey hair and big scarf starting chatting to me. For thirty seconds, I genuinely didn't know who he was, then it dawned on me who I was talking to...Only the legend that is ROSS JENKINS!

Some great names in attendance today. Special mention has to go to Nigel Clough, was at the service today and his Burton team are playing tonight. Respect.

A fitting send off to Graham.

    Well done to all.

    Goodbye GT.

Listened to the service in the car in the rain on 3CR via the club website.

Wish I could have been there, it was, and I was very emotional.

And as others have said, impressive organisation by the club, and the number of football VIP's, and dignity of the Watford fans who turned out in good numbers on a weather miserable day.

Thankyou Graham, it still amazes me all stories from people who's lives you touched and not just in a footballing sense.

The world is a poorer place without you.

    Mods,

Not sure if it has been suggested elsewhere but would it be an idea to print this whole thread after editing and presenting it to the Taylor family as a momento of the thoughts of so many fans from this forum. It's quite an emotional and heartfelt read and something to offer some comfort in years to come?

I'm sure donations would come in if it was printed professionally and book bound in some way.

We also need to thank Graham Taylor blood family that they let his football family join in the great send off for the great man. Funerals are never easy to organise and you are dammed if you do and dammed if you don't, very hard balance to get correct, his lovely family and watford fc got the balance perfect in my opinion. Rita and the rest of the family knew how much football, especially watford fc, meant to him and they know what Graham Taylor meant to football and especially watford fc. The one thing that sum it up was the letter written by a lady that knew little about football but still knew the effect he had on watford and the people from the town and what people from all over the county said about him.

Everything I hear that buddy holly song I will have a tear in my eye.

Not sure who is responsible but hats off to ever done up the bell the way they did.

RIP not only the greatest British manager but also the most honest, genuine and nicest British manager. Your legacy will never be forgotten at watford and what you stood for and what you made sure the club stood for.

Radio 5 played a good little interview with Micah Hyde and Gifton Noel-Williams this morning, good to hear them giving such a focus to GT. The staff there all seem to love him.

Very moving day. Shame to see a group of 3 girls in shiny tracksuits hounding Deeney for a picture. Not the day for that

And singing the four letter Deeney song as they walked off cackling into town - just horrible.
Nearly as bad as the revolting specimen who listed an Order of Service on eBay within minutes of the coffin departing.

I saw a bloke with a handful of them walking away up town before it even started, i was hoping he was just getting them for friends, they were short of them and lots of people did not get one, i was going to suggest that they give them out before the game on saturday or make them available in the shop but in two minds.

As for the autograph/photo hunters, there is a time and place for everything, Deeney handled it pretty well and they were not the only ones, he could not say no really.

Lets focus on all the things that went well.

    Oh dear.

I would have hoped most of the young ladies I know would have known better. Mind you I don't think any of them would recognise Troy if he came up and walloped them over the head with a cheese and pickle sandwich.

As for the specimen, well words fail me.:dismay:

You're right, of course - everything that could be organised went perfectly and the overwhelming majority of the people outside behaved immaculately- just makes the exceptions that much more transparent.

I saw the person doing this. He kept going backwards and forwards to the lady giving out the Order Of Services. He said several times 'I want one for my mate's
and then walking off and swapping places with his mate who did the same thing.

    Utter ****.

For it matters not, how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash,

What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard; Are there things you would like to change?

For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough to consider what is true and real

and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more

and love the people in our lives like we have never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile,

Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read with your life’s actions to rehash…

Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?

You can and the poem the dash which one of his daughters read out and said that's what reminded her of her dad (GT) Has helped me deal with my recent problems in my life just by hearing them words,Even his family know how to spread love and honesty, such inspirations the whole Taylor family, why can't people show the love they can to eachother and the world would be a much better place.
