Tears in eyes here, the biggest thing I remember about him is the scrapbook I inherited from my Aunt who was a big Watford fan, had a few letters of correspondence with him in there, top bloke.

A true gentleman and Watford legend. Such a decent and honourable man.

My heartfelt sympathies to his family. A thoroughly sad day for all involved in the club.

    RIP

They are not Luton fans are they? I haven't looked myself but after your post I do not really want to. :(

The club has existed for over 130 years. I know that in another 130 years time, GT will still be our greatest ever manager. We all lost our hero today. RIP

Thank you Graham for defining my childhood and making me the adult I am today. I showed you my Watford tattoo on the steps outside the Bramall Lane offices...you pointed to it and laughed, we shook hands and I told my fiancee who was there l just touched the hand of God. I hope you have even a fraction of an idea how you are idolised by all Watford fans but especially those around from 77/78...

As soon as I get home I'm dusting off my old 1999 Watford shirt and will wear it all evening.

Feels like losing a close relative. All the comments on here have reduced me to tears. I am utterly devastated.

Don't. It's quite incredible what some people can write about somebody who has just died.

Football is important to us but rarely does it bring you to tears, not with sadness.

    Today tears at the news.

He was more than about football, what he did for the club, the town, for us wasand is unforgettable.

    So so sad right now.

I would go further. He had an influence on our town and community.

He did a talk at WBGS every year (I'm sure he did at other schools) handed out medals for Abbots 10k etc.

Even if you weren't a football fan, GT helped shape our local area.

Absolutely devastating news. When Ken Furphy died I was sad remembering the good times he gave us in the 60s but this is just terrible news. The only comparable feeling I have had associated with football was when I learned in summer 87 that GT had left to club to go to Villa and Bassett had taken over. This is much worse.

    Rest in Peace GT.

From a completely selfish point of view, I don't like crying, especially in public. Saturday is going to be so hard.

Still fondly remember him spending an hour on the phone to my dad when he had terminal cancer. Only looking to give my old man a lift with a quick chat with the legend. Thought he'd be about 5 minutes. He was a truly wonderful man.

    RIP.

Which one? The Phones4U one or the one we wore in the P/O final where Nicky Wright scored that incrediable goal vs Bolton?
Cannot remember the sponsor of it...

    We are all God's children.

What an absolutely outstanding man of knowledge, kindness, honour and decency.

This part of the forum should be somehow renamed in permanent tribute.

My mum died last month but this is somehow much sadder, much more of a shock.

A great man. God bless his wife, children and grandchildren whose pain will be so much greater than ours.

    Toshiba?

So hard. In an office full of people who could never understand what it is to support a poxy little club, just because it is yours and to have a man like GT who effectively defined everything that was good about said club. They could never relate to my grief or understand why the usually cynical me is in tears at the loss of someone he met only 4 or 5 times in his life.

    It was the CTX one.

Fortunatley, I'm working from home today and work has taken a back seat as I'm just watching old YT videos o Watford under GT and welling up.

I was driving when the news broke, I found out through a text from my brother. Now I suddenly don't feel like doing any university work.

Really saddened and devastated. This is the man who, in no small part, made us who we were - he and Elton. He loved the club and its fans, and always insisted that everything was for them.

i caught the end of his first stint. then i was a fully formed surporter in his 2nd. he symbolises everything we are or were or will be. he made this club what it was. as important as a fergie to man u, more so. our small little club punched above its weight and dreams came true. thanks gt. really really gutted today. If your passing doesnt light a ****ing firework up this teams arse i dont know what will. It takes something special to be a great person maybe this will inspire some people to stand up. so gutted.

It's difficult to word how much influence he had over the lives of people growing up in our town during my generation and those around it. A phenomenal amount is the best I can surmise.

I was unfortunate enough to not be around for his first stint as our manager, but I have heard the tales. His second spell was during the defining years of my childhood, and I owe him a lot for some truly great memories and for everything he has done since for this club.

May you rest in peace Graham.

Can't remember which game it was, may have been a cup game, we were 2-0 down and his half time team talk was:

"You got us into this mess, so you can get us out of it"

    Then walked out.

    We ended up drawing 2-2.

    That's who he was.

    Very sad and tragic.

Of course a true WFC legend or maybe the true WFC legend!

Will always remember the 2 promotions in 98 and 99 under GT (was too late to enjoy the wonderful era of the late 70s/80s)

    RIP.

His impact for Watford was so much more than football. How many clubs now have Family Stands, introduced by GT in a time when hooliganism ran rife. He also made sure that it was written into all our players contracts that they had to work within the community.
