Hopefully in 2018 the opposition will no longer treat us a major scalp and just expect to beat us. Trouble is everyone loves to beat England.

Na, it's never ending. Even the number of fans we take everywhere, the profile of the PL and the odd English club side doing well in the Champions League feeds it I think.

Good on Wales. I never thought I'd wake up the kids supporting anyone but Watford or England but when that 3rd goal went in I was cheering them all the way home, and that's without any money riding on it! A team with heart, unlike dismal England.

Was tongue in cheek. ;) There's a certain arrogance about England, the FA and some of our fans which is why other nations love taking us down a peg or 2.

My only issue with Wales beating Belgium was having to listen to that **** Savage...other than that they thoroughly deserved the victory.

Once you get to a major finals of a tournament teams do not try harder against England and only give 90 percent in other games. It's a nonsense made up as yet another excuse for why we perform so poorly. We are really suggesting Iceland tried harder against England than they did against Austria? Or Slovakia put in more effort against England than they did in beating Russia?

I think that factor is only in play when teams come to Wembley to play friendlies. In major tournaments it is full steam irrespective of opposition.

With all the deserved accolades dished on Wales last night, I'm surprised not one word was said about Belgium's shocking underperformance by the BBC pundits. Dean Saunders was gushing about how well Wales kept the ball in the first half and how he'd never seen them pass so well, but that's not that difficult when an opposition team who seem to think they have it sewn up and will cruise to victory against lil' ol' Wales just because they did it against a na*ve Hungary side in similar fashion just sit back and allow you time and space on the ball. Having a makeshift and partly inexperienced defence shouldn't have been a really significant part of the problem, because Wales were carving them open time and time again long before they actually got to the penalty area. That said, taking Kabasele to the Euros and not even giving him a chance when it really matters now looks a lunatic decision - yes Denayer had a few caps, but surely Kabasele's much more distinguished career, proven quality as a centre back and greater age (25, while Denayer's only just turned 21) should have given him the nod over Denayer, whose only noteworthy spell in senior football so far has been a season loan spell at Celtic. Might have helped with all those corners against a 31 year old who'd only scored two goals since March 2014 (one of them against a poor Watford side) but could have had a hat trick with all those free headers he was allowed.

And when they finally resumed putting any sustained pressure on the Wales defence, their finishing was awful and unlike the Croatia players who were absolutely distraught they didn't seem to care that much, which hardly speaks well for the team spirit (or lack of) in the Belgium camp. I think Portugal will be a different proposition as they seem much more prepared to scrap for results, as long as they can cut out their erraticism in defence.

Belgians view their national team how we view ours.

They've got a Golden Generation similar to when we had Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Owen, Rooney etc all at one. They've got a similar thing right now but Willmots like Hodgson is a useless nob who at 1-1 at HT decided to take off a winger and bring Fellaini on? That changed the whole game IMO and De Bruyne even said as much after the game.

Pleased for Wales but before everyone keeps slagging Belgium off.... at 2-1 Wales Lukaku was fouled edge of box and Wales player should've got 2nd yellow. Even Savage said so. Then the Belgium with the Mohican haircut was fouled in the box clear penalty. At 2-2 with Wales a man short it would've been difficult. It was just meant to be for Wales.

They need to ditch Wilmots immediately. World Cup 2018 is still a viable target if they have a good manager. Belgian FA seem pretty relaxed though and Wilmots is going on holiday to think about his future.

Just got offered a jelly bean and, when I pulled one out of the pack, there were two others stuck to it. Colours: Black, Red, Yellow.

Germany win then, as predicted by the mystic jelly beans.

Unfortunately Scholes retired just before the qualification for WC 2006, might have made all the difference with a half fit and temperamental Rooney. Sven got a lot of stick during and after that tournament for not doing more with that "golden generation", but TBH under the circumstances with Michael Owen out during the knock out stages and the other limitations mentioned above, I think (if mostly in retrospect in light of what has followed with England's performances regressing rather than improving) much of it wasn't entirely justified. Granted, the performances weren't very inspiring, but we exited the tournament on penalties otherwise unbeaten having topped the group without conceding any goals in open play, having played less than a full strength team reduced to ten men for an hour during the quarters, and I'm not sure what more he could have done.

Germany hadn't missed a penalty in a shootout since 1982...then go and miss 2 in a row!

Well its the same old story...Germany win the shoot-out.

Pelles mind-games ****ed himself over, he's done the paneka a LOT previously, noticed a few people on Twitter saying that he'd probably try it in the shoot-out, then he seemed to signal to Neur that he'd do it. Then side-footed it wide. Shouldn't have signaled and should've just panekaed it!

Just watched a recording of it this as I was out during the match and what a snooze fest it was. The worst game of the knockout stages after Portugal vs Croatia and Wales vs Northern Ireland - well worth staying up for!

Much though I often like to see the underdog do well, I honestly hope Iceland don't beat France tomorrow - their football is awful to watch and Germany, while obviously skilful and workmanlike, are strangely lacking in thrills for me - I thought the 2006 side was much more entertaining.

Seems strange to see so many England players on holiday - must have found some quick deals or didn't have a lot of faith in our progress!

Of course they are allowed to have one but the papers have been all over it with the usual negative headlines.

Awful penalties,Pelle may get some stick if he is still in England next season.

Well they have to go somewhere, as new UK rules on unskilled workers means they can't come back into the country.
