Slightly inaccurate piece to describe Capoue as stand out midfield performer this season. Up until mid December maybe.

An opportunity to play Berghuis, a perfect square peg in holding midfield hole

At least this means there's less chance of him leaving in the summer

A serious injury is never good, but if there was a better time then it is now. Effectively, we will have no competitive games for the next 3 months, so it will give him a chance for rehab work. If it is a 6-9 monther, next season would be a write off for him. Best of good luck to him.

The fact that he tries to walk it off suggests it's not massive damage but then again the fact it happened from what looked like an innocuous challenge does worry me.

Hope all is well but I think that's it for his season.

At least he's got the summer to get it sorted. It's not like he was off to the Euros.

I'll have to put away that batch of "I saw Capoue score" T shirts back in the garage until next season.

  10. Seem to remember Simmo trying to run off his broken ankle (the one that kept him out of The Cup Final) at Leicester. Resumed the game for a few minutes before being taken off.

I had hoped he would. He's been consistently awful for ages.

Hope he recovers soon and moves on to pastures new.

Gary Porter tried to jog off a broken leg too, I think it was perhaps a relegation home game against Peterborough?

Kieran Dyer scored against us for Ipswich with a broken leg. No excuses.

Wont happen. Anya playing CM so Berghuis will probably slot in at CB

Stuart Pearce had to be persuaded to come off at half time after he broke his leg in a tackle with Micah Hyde whilst playing for West Ham.

on the subject of stuart pearce, I have it on good authority that he's bisexual.

    We've got Capoue

There is a lot of unjustified mean-ness to Capoue on these threads.

He's our top scorer and yes, he has been woeful for the last 5 or so games, but has anyone considered that's because he's having to do 2 jobs or has been overplayed (which is why he is knackered at 60mins) due to injuries?

He showed his quality to us already (defensively he was good last year) so let's back him!

Hopefully Cleverley (or Watson) can pick up some of the ball winning/getting in their faces duties he shares with VB and give him a bit more freedom to get forward and try create.

    He's a Gallic Man,
His career went down the pan,
So that's why we've got Ettienne Capoue...

He's been crap for the last 10 games IMO. I don't care whether has two jobs, from the very first minute in games he has looked completely uninterested. I haven't seen him break a sweat. When we are playing well he plays well, but when we hit bad form, we need players like him to step up to the plate. Instead, he hides away, doesn't chase anything down and hardly puts any effort in.

We can make as many excuses for his performances as you want, but the simple fact is that he's not working hard enough for the team, and is playing with little or no fight at the moment.

He's just one of those players who gives the impression of being so laid back he's horizontal. It looks classy and is great entertainment when we're winning and he's megging opponents and spraying the ball from left to right but when backs are to the wall he's going to be the first to look ineffective. And that's probably because he largely is. I don't think I've ever known such a talented player to play as many hospital passes as he does.

Was he good defensively last season? I remember him being the exact same as this season (minus the goals)

Watched him closely in games recently and he is a shirker. Sits in the centre circle, screams for the ball when he is in space and in no danger, plays a simple pass then hides behind an opposition player. Offer nothing at either end of the field at the moment, it's a terrible waste of undoubted talent, sadly he doesn't have the discipline mentally to give 100% every week for 90 minutes, he's very happy being a big fish in a small pond with us.

Completely agree. Redknapp was losing the plot over Can's performance yesterday and I think the two of them share a lot of similarities.

Capoue is playing like Pogba did in the first games of the season, when oh wait, he was awful. The slow jog the extra seconds on the ball (and camera), slowing moves down, killing the flow.

He's a moaner too, arms in the air when things go wrong, that would be completely solvable if he worked harder.

If he thinks hes Pogba, which he does, play like him, pull your finger out and work hard. In any walk of life there is a direct correlation between hard work and results. Someone needs to get this in his head.

It's quite obvious now why Poch let him go. Imagine!

While his form clearly took a dip, I think he's become a bit of a scapegoat lately. For me this was evidenced after the Burton game where, quite frankly, he ran the show. Made us tick in the middle of midfield and still got labelled 'useless' etc afterwards.

People saying we should sell our top scorer and weaken our already light midfield need to give their heads a wobble.

No way did he run the show!

He had the easiest time of his life out there, Doucoure was far more influential in my opinion and matched the energy of the lower league side.

Probably doesn't dominate games in the way his considerable talent suggest he should. Still one of our best players though & contributes far more than many suggest. Hopefully Cleverly & Doucs will keep him on his toes

  32. NemoNemo

When he looks like he gives a **** we generally have a really good game and more than likely win but all too often he looks
like a deflated balloon and plays passes with minimal effort leading to giving the ball away or putting team mates under pressure. Needs to be dropped to realise he not just there for the ride and has to earn his place in the team which is exactly what he didn't do and warmed the bench for 2 years

  33. Steve Leo Beleck

    Steve Leo Beleck Squad Player

He's mentally weak. He was playing ok and putting in a decent shift in the games against Spurs and Stoke until we went behind. As soon as we did, he just disappeared, right at the time when you need your most gifted player on the pitch to start demanding the ball and trying to make the team tick.

Additionally, even when on song, there is no point having him on the pitch after 70 minutes, he is always knackered. Spurs always used to sub him off between 60-70 minutes and we should look to do the same.

The reason why people get frustrated is that the talent is there for all to see, it just looks like the application and mentality are missing.

  34. simpleMASH

Doucoure ran around loads without making much happen. Every pass was sideways or backwards (or to opposition towards the end of the game!)
Capoue carried it forward. He brought the wide players in. Needs to start doing that in the prem again.
