As long as Norwich and Sunderland don't win even a draw today for us is ok.

Ok, I was wrong about West Brom v Palarse...

West Brom 3 up after 30 minutes, Palarse look very poor.

Well happy that Palace bad run continues.Great to see Norwich and Sunderland losing.
I think it will be Villa,Sunderland and Norwich. Shame as I would like it to be Villa,Sunderland and Newcastle.

1 point from 7 games now for Narrch. I'm slightly surprised Neil still has a job TBH

3 points needed from 11 games. If that.

Is there a rule that if you reach 40 points you can't ever get relegated . Even if all the other teams get more than 40 points?

I'd be well p1ssed if I supported a team that won the championship but didn't get promoted because all the teams in the premier league reached the "magic 40 points "

I think we may already be safe as I can't see more than one of Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle and Norwich getting 37 points or more with Sunderland the most likely (actually looked decent against an admittedly poor West Ham).

You want the teams with the biggest resources relegated as it reduces the pool of clubs who can outspend us in the summer. So for me Newcastle would be the choice to join Villa. I reckon Sunderland have deeper pockets than Norwich or Swansea so I hope they join the trio of despair. IMHO everyone else is safe. Similarly on the promoted clubs, you want the rash and the small and least attractive to quality players to join us next season. For me Burnley do not have the infrastructure and squad and like Hull are halfway houses. Not going to be competitive in Premiership but too good for the Championship, so will be planning rebuilds which can go badly as well as successful. I would pick. Derby as they seem to have chaos and collapse built into their DNA

we've averaged about 1 point per game over the last ten games and although not an exact science, i'd expect us to finish on between 45-50 points which will place us somewhere between 10-15th place - based on last 5 PL tables. A good result for first return to PL, but it won't be an entertaining close to the season, expect plenty of games to finish as draws or low scoring (by 1 GD) wins either way.

I declare that 38 points will be enough for survival this season ... Infact with our positive goal difference we are probably safe now.

    I dunno, can you?

But in Quique's shoes I'd go all out to win the thing.

Palace's run is bonkers...since the FA Cup began (for PL clubs) they've not won a league match, but have knocked out Spurs, Stoke and Southampton..

1 point in the league since New Year, but victories against 3 very decent PL sides in the cup..

Having more resources than us doesn't mean that they are capable of spending their resources wisely; see Newcastle and Villa for more details.

The bottom 4 are 13 points below us. 3 of them played yesterday and gained 0 points. I think Leicester's miracle escape last season is making many ultra-cautious, in reality we have been safe for weeks......

I agree - their relative greater wealth is balanced out by the more effective human capital running our club. It is easier to buy in new talent both players and managers than to find big pots of cash to have available to misuse. I still think Newcastle and Sunderland are bigger beasts than Norwich and. Swansea, hence the preference for them to go down

  33. Nnnn

This is true. It'll still be nice to get past 40 points though. This is when QSF says he'll be approaching games a little differently. It'll be interesting to see what he has in mind.

lifted from BBC online, looks like Big Sam thinks we only need 1 more point:-

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce says the Black Cats cannot rely on other teams to get them out of Barclays Premier League relegation trouble.

"If the season finishes now, we are relegated, so you have got to get to 38 points or better, it's as simple as that," Allardyce said.

"It doesn't matter what anybody else does, you have got to go and do it yourself. We have got to pick up five victories if we can in 11 minimum, and that's 38 points in the hope that 38 points is going to be enough again this year."
