Hughes has them sussed to then. Didn't take long for the rest of the country to realise.

I really hope we smash them. No doubt they'll win a dubious penalty and nick a point/win. Standard.

Well they have a reputation and clearly the better refs see through or aren't fooled?

Ofcourse some might favour the more established sides but that affects us and Norwich too..

I think everyone hoped the mass signings would mean we would self implode.

Having put Palace to the sword this afternoon, the next three Saturday afternoon's at the Vic see us play, Leeds Utd, AFCB and Leicester - let's hope we can silence the tykeish hordes, keep 'Muff heading in the right direction and put a dent in Leicester's title push..............

    Hughes? What, Richard Hughes?

Who isn't in awe of him? Women want to be with him, and men want to be him.

Hmm. I actually wouldn't be too upset with a huge loss to Leicester. The points wouldn't really matter to us, but would be massive to the prospect of a 'small' team winning the league.

I don't care who does win the league - but I very much care who doesn't. Amongst a few others, I wouldn't want Luton or Liverpool to ever win it.

I'd happily throw the Leicester game to stop tottenham winning it.

Have to admit I agree. Will be annoyed during the game if we lose. I think it would great for Leicester to win the league. Would show that clubs like us can compete and win. Where it not for Leicester everyone would talking about us and how well we have done.

Every win at this level is massive, today was no different. Good battling display. I know the cleans sheets have dried up but our defensive record is still very good. One thing I notice is that Behrami is looking fresh and was a massive part of our win.

I understand the sentiments but if I had to chose between us beating Leicester & Leicester winning the league I'd chose us beating Leicester every time. I hope they win the league anyway though.

Mind you, if I had to chose between us beating Sunderland on the final day or losing & Muff being relegated....hmmm...

Or that "massive" club Newcastle. I can see the Sunderland game being a huge game for a number of teams whilst we will be having a party

Despite my recent misgivings about our recent relegation form I have to admit that yesterdays win might just have convinced me that this thread is now almost irrelevant, as the 'Orns are staying up!

Of course the ref had a bad game. Stoke didn't concede a penalty or have one of their players sent off.

Muff have every right to complain about the ref not following the script.

In the past 5 seasons, therefore out of 15 relegation places, a newly-promoted club has gone down only 5 times..so Norwich and Bournemouth do have a hope! Kind you, two of those were last season, while Leicester looked doomed too for a large part of the season.

You have to go back 4 seasons to find the last time all 3 promoted clubs survived.

Three times in the last 5 seasons a newly promoted club has finished 11th, but only once (West Ham) has one ended in the top 10.

Found this website. Interesting graph comparing the performance of all newly promoted teams to the PL in the last 20 years. We compare very favourably, with only Ipswich in 00/01 probably out of reach.

    http://www.xydata.co.uk/performance-teams-newly-promoted-english-premier-league/

We will need another 20pts to become the second best promoted team ever (surpassing Reading and West Ham on 55pts).

On one of the Muff forums their is a thread titled "why are refs so gullible" and another by some plank who can't believe we got a loan fee for Layun, and he thinks it's cheating! To be fair most of their other fans are quick to point out that they aren't exactly getting Iturbe for free. Obviously not the brightest bunch down there by the sea.

Interesting, why the gradual decrease in the amount of points needed to stay up, a league getting more and more competitive every season so more teams taking points off each other? Or the top 4/5/6 clubs getting bigger better and richer?

    That's a surprising stat, although it's often the 2nd season that's a killer.

Villa wish they were awful, they need to improve a lot to reach that level. Not even league one standard today.

    And now it's five....:sign1:

I genuinely think they could go down again next year

Although they're not out of it mathematically I think today's game pretty much confirms they're going down and not with much of a fight it seems.

Clearly even an average Liverpool side is a vastly different proposition from Norwich or a Palace with three points from their last 27.

Liverpool scoring almost at will, this could be 10 by the end.

There is no way Villa will stay up this season. People go on about previous survival stories but in those examples the teams were showing fight and had (arguably) played fairly well. Villa have not been good, can't score and can't defend. Perhaps worst though is they fold so easily

Garde will walk I reckon. Go back to France, get a Ligue 1 job and forget this ever happened.

I'm struggling to recall ever witnessing a worse performance than that. Even in the first half when it was only 2-0 you could just see there was absolutely no way back for them. An absolute farce of a match, I felt embarrassed on Villa's behalf when Toure scored.

That guy didn't fancy it after 5 minutes in the vialli era and pretty much faked injury to go off.

Top comment from Villa Talk - Mignolet got so bored he actually picked a fan out of the crowd to play 2nd half for him and he went for a pint
