More rumours to add to the never-ending list. Zakarya Bergdich is a 26 y.o left-back according who was on loan at Genoa from Rayo Vallecano last season- he also plays left wing or right wing. He played basically all of last year at LW or RW. He had 5 goals for Rayo in Segunda Division and only 1 assist for Genoa last year. Apparently we're battling it out with Norwich City for this guy. http://rumoresfichajespucela.blogspot.com.es/2015/07/norwich-city-y-watford-tras-los-pasos.html To be honest, the article stinks of an agent getting his player out there and shoving two newly-promoted Prem teams completes the article for what I think it is. I hope there isn't some truth in this. As for Curtis Davies, we all know who he is. Hull fans are basically universally panning him for being one of the reasons they got relegated. Brum fans love him, but his spell with them was some time ago. Apparently he's having a medical with us (see twitter for this). Again, please no.
Seems slightly harsh of Hull fans to pin the blame for relegation on him, since he essentially didn't play a game in the second half of the season!?!
I don't know if the guy claims to be ITK or not. Doesn't seem to be a journo to me. I'm saying Twitter because it is exactly where I saw it and also because I know that it could be good or it could be ****e. It's not far down the #watfordfc timeline so it can easily be traced
Curtis Davies played his last match for Hull on the 31st of January this year. In the preceding month, he was awarded Man of the Match twice, both in matches that Hull lost. For his season as an average, he earned a Whoscored rating of 7.33. That compares rather well to, say, Sergio Aguero, who earned a rating of 7.67. He's relatively recently turned 30, so he's not over the hill, and the season before last, there was strong talk of him as the best English centre back in the league, with a notable campaign for him to be included in England's World Cup squad. I'm not his agent, and I'm not saying he'd be my number 1 target, but at the same time, he's a centre back who actually does count as homegrown, is vastly experienced; including in the Premier League, and has a pretty recent record of performing to a high standard. I think he gets lazily tarred with the 'relegation' brush far too much, and he should be considered for more than that. He would likely represent a serious asset to us if he did join, and would satisfy those crying about the lack of English grit/experience in our squad and transfer targets.
Not on Twitter so can't actually link the tweet like some people can. But here's the guy's profile: https://twitter.com/WayneTomo79/with_replies If he's ITK, he's a very good ITK cos he sure doesn't look like one
As someone said when his name was first mentioned a month or so ago, the poetic romance of an ex-scummer working his way up the football pyramid to finally sign for Watford in the premier league gives a lovely warm feeling inside.
As someone said above, he barely played all the second half of last season, I don't think it's fair for him to be blamed for what happened. Maybe they should look at the strikers they bought(for a lot of money it has to be said). The season before last he was immense. I'd love it if we signed him. Hopefully his injury last season hasn't affected him too much. He also adds something that's incredibly rare - leadership from the back. This can sometimes be overlooked in terms of importance. We can also bring back the Springy Song if he joins .
If he joins, and we go with a back 4, it may well be that none of last years defenders will get a slot. Not even Cathcart.
At this rate the only outfield player from last year who is gaurenteed to start is Deeney. Ironically he s the only player in the whole squad is not an international
Just a season ago, lots of people wanted Curtis Davies in the England squad. Though an ex-scummer, he only joined them as they were the first to offer him a contract and soon left, so it a yes from me.
In two of the last 3 seasons, we have suffered with serious defensive injury crises during the course of the season, and look at the revolving defence in Leicester finally finding a formula for success towards the end of the season. I'm sure we will need all of them to a significant degree. Edit - I quoted the wrong post, this really applies to the undeniable truth's post, apologies!
Never heard of Bergdich, Davis would be fairly decent although I don't think any better than Cathcart personally wouldn't be fussed if we either get them or not
Springy went back to the dark side where the scummer fans then sang the same song. He MUST be the benchmark.
