Connor Wickham to Palace for up to £9m

I don't get what they're trying to do by signing Bamford and Wickham? Create the ****test strikeforce in the league?

Wickham is decent in flashes but lacks the consistency.

  4. Hornpete

    Mings £8m
    Chester £8m
    Wickham £9m
    Brady £7m

All average premier league players (at best).

Combined fee £33m. Buy 11 players like this and you'd have a team certain to go down or at least be in a relegation scrap that would cost you £85-95m! The only saving grace is there's some idiot waiting to buy these players off you for the same fee.

Chester is a decent centre half.

  6. Jumbolina

Chester is indeed decent. He's a lower half/bottom 6 premier league standard centre back. But that's the point being made.

Whenever i've seen him play, he gets the ball and shoots. No matter where on the pitch he currently is. Shocking.

Mulumbu has ****ed up his foot. Bad news for Norwich. Good news for us.

Good news for both I would have thought.

Bournemouth bidding £3m for Lee Tomlin from Boro. Their transfers have been awful.

Think they're probably finding what we did in 99/00 and 06/07 - many decent players just don't want to come to no mark clubs who've just been promoted even if it is the Premier League. We're luckier this time around but even the Pozzos have had a fair few rejections this summer. And for all the hype there was no way on this planet Howe was seriously contemplating keeping the same starting XI who won the Championship.

Tbf Gradel is a class signing, the rest have been **** poor though.

This is what makes me laugh about all the previews. Everyone's reasoning for us being relegated is that we've signed too many. If i'm right that'd make Bournemouths signings up to 9. But it doesn't fit their fairytale view of Bournemouth to mention that.

Bournemouth really are panicking if they're even thinking about signing fat lad Tomlin - let alone paying £3mil for him.

  15. PowerJugs

    PowerJugs Doyley Fanatic

Lloyd Doyley is worth at least a million as he's decent and homegrown.

Nope. Can't type that with a straight face.

  16. Tomlin is a strange signing, I've never seen anything to suggest he is premier quality

They might as well have given us half a mill for Mcgugan and banked the difference

  17. JH93

£3mil for Lee Tomlin is an absolute joke. With the Pozzos scouting system, they could have bought an equivalent player from somewhere like Africa for about £20k - here's one that I managed to find in about 30 seconds:

Tomlin...Mings...King...Federici. You can take the club out of the Championship...etc etc.

These players were all bog average in that league, so why they have suddenly become good enough for the Prem I don't know.

And the fees! Christ. Hope they've kept the receipts safe.

Just cannot understand why Bournemouth are making such an effort to sign homegrown players. I'd get it if they were flirting with the possibility of not meeting the quota, but considering that around 85/90% of their squad is homegrown, why spend all the extra cash on signing bang average players?

Gradel is the only signing they've made that's impressed me. The rest are mediocre IMO and I don't understand those on here praising their signings.

  20. Grrwood

Sako has just signed for Palace. Shame as I think he could have done a job here but would seemingly be down the pecking order.

  21. It is all relative

For a tiny club which in football terms is the far side of the moon....they are doing ok

It's Bournmouth ffs, just think how hard they had to work to get Gradel to even look on a map! I think they deserve some credit

  22. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

He's played for them before so he probably didn't need to spend too long on Google Maps...

Bournemouth signing Glen Murray is done apparently, another poor signing imo and that total brings them to the same as us doesn't it?

  25. Hornet23

    Hornet23 First Team

Yeah but he's British so that's ok. As long as you sign a few overpriced Brits on top of the other signings then the media won't pick up on the massive squad overhaul. What it shows is great ambition. Comfortable mid-table for them now. Triffic stuff.

Is there a competition between them and palace for who can sign the most average strikers?

Surely Palace have far better wingers than us?

Care to explain? Grrwood stated that he though Sako would be down the pecking order with us (unless I'm mistaken) - if that was a big issue for Sako then why sign for sign for Palace who have better quality and more options out wide than us?

  30. WatfordTalk

Maybe he was suggesting Sako wouldn't be worth his significant wages to sit on the bench most weeks.

  31. Jellyman

Palace will cash in on Bolasie when some desperate team offers them the right amount of money either this summer or in January.

Having Sako, Zaha and Bolasie is just overkill because they're all very similar players.

  32. Hornpete

    Hornpete Squad Player

I disagree, they can all play if chasing a game, or more to the point after 65 minutes your left back has run himself into the ground trying to catch bolasie, palace bring on a fresh keen Sako to spend half an hour running at that tired and weary full back. Rotation among 3 wingers is a luxury and keeps them all fresh and on their toes.

  33. Grrwood

    Grrwood Reservist

Yes this is what I meant really. I wouldn't expect him to get ahead of Jurado, Abdi, Vydra, Ighalo or Berghuis and with other prem clubs after him he could easily hold us to ransom with wages.

  34. MellowYellow

    MellowYellow Academy Graduate

My point was that if Palace have better wingers than us (Zaha, Bolasie, Puncheon, Chung, Williams and Kaikai highly rated) then the deciding factor between us and them wouldn't be game time - if they have better (and more) wingers than us surely he would play more here? Don't get what the issue with what I said was?

Inb4 the customary WatfordTalk dislike, you're extremely petty
