I agree. I think he looks better than he is because he is playing in a poor team.

If you remove QPRs sell-on fee and the potential add-ons (which City may not have to pay), Liverpool got 35m for Sterling. I wouldn't call swapping Sterling for Benteke + £2.5m good business myself. Especially when Liverpool are already stacked with strikers (Sturridge, Ings, Origi, Lambert with Firmino + Coutinho able to play there as well if needed). If they feel like they DID need another striker, spending £15m on Charlie Austin or £21m on Pedro who's a bit older but far more versatile than Benteke (if Liverpool DO buy Benteke, they'll have to change the way they play) would be a better option imo.

He's about bang average as you can get. The fact he's a current England starter says everything about our nation's footballing issues to be honest.

Also, what is he playing at? He signed a new contract in January, then was supposedly on the verge of leaving for City, then he promises fans it's all rubbish and he's not going anywhere this summer, now the move's back on. Sterling is an absolute **** but at least he made his intentions clear from the start.

Villa put in a clause I think which meant a certain bid would be accepted but it does seem strange and makes him/agent look silly.

I doubt in reality the bloke will care when sitting on the bench earning 100k a week - I think that is the main issue for our young players.

Apparently Chelsea have bid £20m for John Stones. Seems a bit pointless when they have their defensive lineup sorted for years with Kalas, Zouma + Christensen...Maybe if they actually played some of them rather than constantly loaning them out they'd realise they're not actually that bad.

Would be a horrendous move for Stones imo. I hope he's got decent people advising him.

Saints signed shed-loads of replacement players & did fantastically well last season. As long as you have have a quality manager to take care of things, no worries.

    Which, of course, we do.

He hasn't played under Mr Integrity (unless you're whooshing me). Either way, he probably gave him a call and told him what to do

Man City have struck again, signing 18 year-old English AM Patrick Roberts from Fulham for an undisclosed fee.
Yet another promising English talent on the road to ruin :dismay:

Whilst I'm irritated that Man City have signed Roberts just to make up the homegrown quota, the biggest disappointment of all in my opinion lays on the shoulders of the player himself.

He was playing football for a good, stable and well-managed club in a competitive league. Judging by reports he could have been the next best thing for England, but as soon as some real £ are waved in front him, he's happy to jump ship and kiss his development goodbye.

Is this the typical attitude of young British players? I sincerely hope not, because if it is we can put to bed any hopes of winning a major international competition any time soon.

Lol. Apparently Palace fans are divided on him. Honestly, he's just over-hyped. He's a brilliant forward against meh Championship teams, but he couldn't do it when it counted at the business end of last season. He'll have better people supplying him with through balls/crosses, but he won't finish them against the better defences

With every transfer of a British player this summer it just justifies the club's policy even more. West Brom have agreed a fee of £8m for JAMES CHESTER!

  27. JAMES CHESTER
    cost £8 M
    legs 2
    CL appearance 0
    international caps 6

THE ENTIRE LOT OF WATFORD CBS
    cost £1.8 M
    legs 12
    CL appearances 40
    international caps 67

Maybe, but right at the end of the season he was carrying an injury. He should have been taken off when it happened and then left out until he'd recovered, but it seems he was too important to Boro for that.

  30. Happy bunny

Happy bunny Cheered up a bit

A telling comparison, but possibly misleading. We're sometimes told transfer fees, but rarely wages and never signing-on fees. It's impossible to judge the true costs of securing a player, and of course the Pozzo empire is particularly opaque on this.

Despite this we still have morons commenting that we never sign british players - who on earth can blame us when decent championship players cost up to £10m?!?

Norwich are paying £1.25 mil loan fee for Wisdom for the season as well. We've got Holebas for almost the same price permanently...
